Caleidah Just fought against the current Tyranid codex for the first time. I had an assault heavy list prepped, and I should have been ready for something like this. Anyway, my opponent was fielding the following list: HQ – Hive Tyrant (280) Armored Shell Wings Adrenal Glands HQ – Hive Tyrant (280) Armored Shell Wings Adrenal Glands Tyranid Warrior Brood [5] (275) Lash Whip and Bone Sword Adrenal Glands Toxin Sacs Tyranid Warrior Brood [5] (275) Lash Whip and Bone Sword Adrenal Glands Toxin Sacs Tyranid Warrior Brood [5] (275) Lash Whip and Bone Sword Adrenal Glands Toxin Sacs Carnifex Brood [3] (615) Crushing Claws Twin-linked devourers with Brainleech r Adrenal Glands Trygon (250) Adrenal Gland Upgrade to Tyranid Prime Trygon (250) Adrenal Gland Upgrade to Tyranid Prime He ended up nearly tabling me, if only because of some pretty grievous tactical errors on my part, such as charging a the Carnifexes with a unit of Berserkers. Also, those Warriors were pretty harsh on my numbers. The Trygons weren't quite as damaging, but one of them was able to sweep me off of my rear objective. Even though he nearly tabled me, it ended up a draw with me contesting the only held objective. Oh my gosh two hive tyrants with wings and 2+ armour is that even allowed.

It is in the Codex. Thus, it is allowed.

Anybody get the feeling that... You know, termagaunts and Tervigons are only useful..if you field nothing but them? Been having trouble getting the Carnifex, Tervigon, termagaunts, and Genestealers to do much of anything except die unless fielded purely for the whole army. seemingly, I am getting the feeling of less diveristy. Or am I just misguided?

Caleidah It is in the Codex. Thus, it is allowed. Looking at that list alone, it looks like the 'Nids took a huge points hit, those units are a lot more expensive than they would have cost last codex.

A lot of those are pretty pricy upgrades, too. Hive Tyrants took the hits the hardest for cost, as far as I can tell. Well...those and Fexes.

Is it just me or is the new Bugs codex really frustrating? I used to field a 2300pt army and now its all the way down to 1500...while this isn't that bad, I've also lost really helpful upgrades like living ammunition.

Living Ammo is gone, but Brainleech is in as an upgrade for Devourers and that makes them -damn- nasty.

well, with most MCs well into 200 points range now this will be certainly different kind of army - though having 6 wounds on say, trygons makes for a really hard to kill critters... Tyranid prime is a welcome addition as indepedent character type HQ, something Nids quite lacked... Tervigons seem to be most effective MCs to me, providing FNP to other units and creating irritating small bugs by dozens... with 5 of those on table you can add about 50 gaunts per turn!

I honestly don't see a lot of point in having a ton of gaunts. I'd rather have troops that are more useful to me, which is pretty much all Genestealers. yeah they cost more and can't move as far as Hormeys but they can tear through armor a lot faster. They're also a lot more intimidating to put on the field.
I'm also very dissatisfied with the fact that they took out the power-weapon ability from the Broodlord, though Acid-blood is cool. and now you can have more than one smile

I've got a bunch of them basecoated that I never had a chance to really finish, but the idea of a board crawling with Guants always seemed neat to me.

this is more of a style choice, than power choice - both gaunts and genestealer based armies can be potent - think guard/marines.

Whenever I field my 25 hormas with toxin sacs it tends to bog down near anything. meanwhile, my zoans' and hive guard blow up metal boxes, and my warriors lash whip and bonesword the insides. little guys are there to soften things up for the big boom. and as a blocker/tie up unit.
