yin999 As for low note help, here was the way I taught to get them out. I was told to "put more lip on the read". How do you do this? By moving your top teeth closer to the tip of the mouthpiece. There's an excercise for this, but unfortunately it's hard to explain with typing. But I'll try. Start on a low G. Hold it for about a 2 beats, then press the octave key for a second, then release the octave key, going back to the low G. After releasing the octave key, decresendo to as quiet as you can get before there is no sound. Then do this same thing going down cromatically (sp??? xp ) each time. When you get to about an E, start doing the thing I said above. Move your teeth about a millimeter closer to the tip of the mouthpiece, so that when you get to a low Bb, you teeth should be near the end of the mouthpiece, and you'll be able to get the lower notes out better if you practice this every day. Hope that helps! biggrin Hmm that works but sometimes if you have a bad reed you squeak. Also this is very useful with high notes xd

Cpt. Greylag Des_Omon Oooh help with vibrato please. My schedule at school got changed because I have 2 things all term so I only have my elective for 2 terms. Our bd is teaching everyone how to vibrato (they suck... bad except for 3 people xd ). Lol also today my friend said that our bd said "What happened to the saxophones? There used to be a good sound, maybe because (my name ninja tis unknown to you) left" lol so yeah. Help I don't want to fall behind and be crappy next term. I'm following them on the book but I need some other info and stuff. Also I would like to know your views because I figure other band geeks know more than directors xp Done with my rant. Come on someone help me please

The method i use is moving the jaw in a small up and down motion affecting the pitch. Course this works good for jazz stuff but i'm not so sure about classical. I try to manipulate my diaphragm my tongue and my lips to get the right sound. You ever watch singers use vibrato? or ever sing and do vibrato? it's kinda the same thing.

Not really...I think vibrato with singers is more in the throat or something like that... sweatdrop Vibrato on the saxophone is more with the jaw... And its a hard thing to learn without proper direction...I reccoment a private lesson teacher biggrin

MHHornfreak It is the same thing if your using your diaphragm. Oh...well I was taught never to do that, by some pretty well known players too, but yah...if you do it that way, I guess it could be the same.
