Are you sure three hours a day isn't too much for you? It's never a good idea to over-practice.

At least go easy one day a week. Give your chops some time to heal, or else they won't get much stronger.

xD don't worry, i'm not over practicing

i found out that i barely get anything done if i practice only an hour a day .___.; I only get passed long tones, tonguing exercises, and scales...o_O;;;

i'm taking breaks on sundays, sooo yeah.

i've seen worse....my friend has to practice six hours a day x_x; because she has to get first chair in all state in AZ or her mom won't get her a new flute....and she's gonna be taught by the best flautist in AZ o.O sooo yeah...

^that was like an hour ago---didn't get to post it Dx

well, I practiced for three hours, it wasn't over practicing...i got alot done and I felt very happy after that whee

I spent 1 1/2 hour on long tones (i forgot to do legato tonguing x_x mainly because i don't have my metronome ._. forgot it in the band room...) scales and exercises from the uber big klose' book..and a bittt of teh mozart concerto

then the last hour and a half was devoted to the concerto ^_^ the excercises i did helped bunches blaugh

i felt uberly accomplished >o

sweatdrop yup three hours ^_^ five days a week actually

saturdays I practice for six, most likely next week I'll practice on sunday and rest on saturday.....i just don't know why sweatdrop

i've come ot the conclusion that my conductor favorites kimberly and thats why she's first chair...

she couldn't even play her scales right, i had to teach her them ON THE AUDITION DAY and she got first chair stare it makes me furious that mr. a actually has favorites!

what would be worse is giving her the clarinet solos in sanctuary by frank ticheli... -___- RAWR! i interpreted the song AND found it O_O

i-i-i-i'm not jealous.....::hides::

Yey! another clarinetist blaugh

I feel like going to teh music store all of a sudden o.O

I soo don't want to go to the music store near my house Dx, for one thing they sell crappy stoof there and the clarinet teacher sucks -__- he makes no effort to get his students in tune or doing GOOD crescendos and decrescendos >.>

another reason is i have piano lessons there and so my ex clarinet teacher is back...from that cruise he was perfroming in...i think so i dun wanna see him Dx

blaugh my friend told me i'm realli good at crescendos and decrescendos sometimes i'm ignorant of the < > and it sounds like i crescendoed too late---itsh like that sometimes sweatdrop

crying I've been putting it off too long. My last sax reed died just this evening.

I need to go the store tomorrow.

A subtle way to make a smooth crescendo-decrecendo sound nice is to play the top few notes at the same volume. A lot of people really accent the notes at the very climax, but if you level off a note or two before it and come back down, it's much more fluid.

Try this. On a few of the scales you're practicing, play it in eight notes up.
Continue so you're one note above the octave on beat one of the next measure. That means that if you were playing a C scale, you wouldn't stop and continue to the D.

C D E F G A B C ll D C B A G F E D ll C ...
Now play the scale descending.

Here's the phrase we'll crescendo then decrescendo. Crescendo up the scale, then decrescendo as you go back down. Even though it's notated as a two arrows, it's rarely ever played the way the symbol implies. Really, you might think of the crescendo-decrescendo arrows as more of curves. There's no sharp climax.

In this C scale, crescendo gradually until you get to the octave. Stop crescendoing. Maintain that volume through that C, the D, and the C going back down. Now decrescendo through the rest of the scale.
This way, you have a more fluid phrase. It's easier on the ear.

If you're correct rhythmically, you should be able to repeat this exercise again immediately after you finish it.
