Feeling the bone start to crack but not crumble Mandy let herself feel hopeful for this. She continued the motion very, very carefully. She knew that if she tried this too quickly it might turn to ash again.

Mandy cursed mentally as it did just that. She must have jinxed it.

One last attempt, then she was giving this part of skull up as too fragile to break apart. The others could collect if she failed... she just wanted to be able to give a piece to West.

This time she carefully traced an outline with her claw to tap out.

The outline was scraped into the bone with no trouble, now came the hard part. Jaw clenching Mandy focused on tapping the bone as softly as possibly with the pad of her finger, watching as it moved slowly in.

The second he finger touched it the bone turned to ash like the pieces before it.

"Jackdammit!"

She sighed and turned to West, "m'sorry. Tryin' to get you a piece and failed."

She shifted slightly, securing Danny more now that the ghoul was her only task again.

Junko continued to chip away at the skull as the other ghoul thought about her description.

"Ah, yes. Hims."

Oh, thank Jack.

"Died."

Junko stopped chiseling.

"Killed."

She didn't even bother to watch the...delicate reenactment Savior put on of how Seiji had died.

"Yup. Dead."

Junko's face was completely deadpan as she stared down at the rock in her hands. She could throw it. She could chuck it into that ghoul's face for so casually explaining how her boilfriend was dead. Would anyone fault her? Really? Would they disapprove of her actions if she just...

No.

Junko set the rock down without a word. She then stood up, gently moved away from Xiu's hand, and walked away.

She was done. She quit. As she walked away she kicked a rock as hard as she could, pretending it was the 'big feech' that the ghoul had mentioned killed her boilfriend. ******** of a....! First Red. Now. Seiji. ********. What. What was even. She told him! She told him everything would be okay! This wasn't supposed to happen! This was..this was all her fault!

"Red. Said. We. Can't. DIE." Junko finally cried, burying her hands in her hair and trying desperately not to shout in frustration. She wanted to go home. She wanted out of this place.

Barth had waited out the confrontation, the cold, and Red's collapse drifting in and out of sleep. Thorns crept low on the ground nearby, not bothering anyone. They waited too.

He continued to doze even as the Hunters left, and Christof got up. When the igor returned, he shifted slightly, looking back at him.

"A tooth?" he asked, blearily.

Well if that didn't make the hound face fault. "Savior, i'm Demi, remember?" he said in an expaserated tone.

you'd think that if a ghoul tried to break your arm off, she'd at least remember the face and name of the person. he might have begun to polish a bit too forcefully at that point as he scrubbed away like his life depended on it.

Christof nodded slowly as he moved to grimly sit beside the weary Sloth, offering his find out to him with an exhausted expression. He still had his bag too, reaching in to also pull out the generator piece and the pendant, offering those out to him as well with a bowed head.

Calder had been at a loss of what exactly was happening ever since he had been tossed on the field, nude and very worn down. What little fragments of the situation he could get from passing students really wasn't enough to grasp the entire picture. What lead to the current situation to make Red as changed as she was, let alone attacking others, was completely missed by him. Not to mention that he was still confused as to why these "hunters" were here in the first place in what was supposed to be a field trip. Aside from the mention that they could change students into weapons, he wondered if they were just here for that. Confusion was high and he was left with more questions that he was rather sure would not be answered.

The gravity of Red's words, her situation, and eventually her death, had been taken in with the numbness of an onlooker who didn't know what they could do or should do. Most of the students he saw were in no way ready to fight the hunters again, and Red was fighting a war Calder didn't even know was going on before it was already ending. In the end, she had saved them from being captured, something he was forever grateful for, but her death left his own emotions confused. While he knew he should be sad, he was left more unsure and confused as to what to do next. Red had not been his best buddy since childhood, or a family friend. He didn't know her aside from the short time he crossed paths with her. She was a stranger to him aside from knowing who she was and where she worked, and he couldn't fully put the sort of rage and sorrow in her passing as others had. While he felt sick to his stomach, even sad both because she was gone in such a tragic way, and even for them, she was still a stranger to him. A stranger who died protecting them all. That in itself made him guilty and yet he felt he should return something back to her.

While he wasn't sobbing, having yet to fully digest something that he thought was impossible, he waited for the ice to melt before making his way over to her. What did frustrate him, tear him apart, and really make him feel sad was how she died. No creature should be ruined in such a way. Disgraced after passing by having her body bashed and to pass on in this realm. While she seemed dead, he wondered if she would arrive back in school as a ghost.

It still seemed a shame to leave her here, and like others, he went to work gathering the biggest piece he could to bring back home. Other students were doing the same, being sympathetic vultures as they picked her carcass. When they gave their pin to her, he felt that the symbol of backing someone up in time of need was rather wrong. They had all been here and yet Red had to take care of them, and when she needed protection and backup, they could do nothing. He worked on gathering a piece, working to tear off a piece of her horn.

Barth yawned, head still resting in his own arms, not sure what to make of the rocky tooth. He wasn't sure how safe the pendant was, but he was dying to spend some time with its insides.

"Organics aren't really my...area. But with the weaponization process, it might be time to - err, bone up. We'lll look at them together."

The corners of the hunchback's mouth twitched up in a weak smile as he sidled closer, quietly putting his finds back into the safety of his satchel before positioning it carefully on his lap. The run-wizard's covering for him thankfully was still holding, although he didn't know how much longer. He should at least put on those spare underpants.

He sighed, slowly, carefully, leaning against Barth's shoulder as he freed his hands to sign, "Glad-you-were-here. Glad-you-are-okay. Could-have-been-very-bad."

Call reached on the horn, pulling at an exposed chunk and tugging on it. Despite it looking ready to fall off, it was firmly set in place and required some cracking. Each noise made him wince, as if he was still harming the professor even in death (or was it death?).

"It very nearly was. More than once. I wasn't the only one," Barth said, looking up towards where Calder was busying himself with the remains.

"But I'm alright. You know, until the next thing comes along. ...I wouldn't have been, if you hadn't come after me."

He felt pieces crumble in his hands, and despite how strong Red had seemed and how tough her horn was, once you broke just a piece, it started to dissolve into fine grains in your hands, staining his fingertips and palms. "I'm sorry, but everyone wants to bring you home. If you turn into a ghost, then I'll apologize again. Maybe if we bring you back home in enough pieces....." He tried not to be so hopeful, and tried to wiggle off a piece of the horn. It was then that a piece finally gave way and he was left with a piece of it in his hand.

Rising, he looked at the mess of ashes, footsteps, dusty student pins, and broken pieces. It was a tragedy she couldn't have passed on in a way deserving of her sacrifice. Turning, he headed back to his group.

West shook his head in response to Holly's question. No. He doubted Savior remembered him at all. Glancing at the ghost ghoul briefly, he reached over and prodded her in the arm, right on the spot Savior had sliced her open earlier. He slapped at his own arm and shook his head again, his attention back on the skull in front of them. His wound had healed when he had been brought back. It seemed there was nothing left for Savior to smell.

His face went blank when Mandy tried to get him a piece of their teacher, and he was kind of glad when she gave up. It was a... nice gesture--really, it actually almost made him smile again--but it wasn't necessary. In a move that appeared very, very strange at first, he bent closer to the drop bear, his inaudible voice just a whisper or air near her ear. "'t's okay." He narrowed his eyes at Danny's unconscious form. "Want me t'carry that?"
