Isn't it actually a raccoon?! Coz it goes like this:
1 - Raccoon
2 - Cat
3 - Turtle
4 - Monkey
5 - Dolphin Horse?!
6 - Slug
7 - Horned Beetle
8 - Ox
9 - Fox
There all really something like an animal... although I have no clue what 5 really is... O.o

Actually, the one-tailed is a tanuki, a racoon-dog. And I believe that the three-tailed has also been related to a kappa, which actually does look like a turtle. The eight-tailed is half-octopus/half-ox.
