I've had teachers say that Hephaestus was just the child of Zeus, just the child of Hera, and the child of both. Personally, I go with both since it is the most common translation from the Greek legends. That, and I first heard that rendition from a Greek native who majored in Literature and Ancient Mythology. I know my s**t too.

I love Zeus' story. Cronus ate all his kids XD that was awesome!

As for Pandora... I don't need to say anything -w-

As for crazy legs, I believe the he was born of Zeus and Hera. If I remember correctly, he was born and Hera, ashamed of the monster and scared Zues would kill it, hid it (Can't remember where, probably in the mountain or something...) Atleast, I think that was him...

The gods ate their children a lot...

Actually, I believe that one of them chucked poor Hephaestus off Mount Olympus. Then the guy turns around and makes lightning bolts for Zeus. Now that's forgiveness. Or good business sense. I can never decide which.

Zeus is the one that was hidden. After Gaia/Gaea gave birth to Zeus, she hid him in a cave. Knowing that Cronus wanted to eat him, Gaia hid a stone in a basket and wrapped it up like a baby. Cronus was fooled and ate the stone instead. If you love Zeus's story so much, then I feel I must ask. Do you know WHY Cronus was eating his children?

Yes, I can't remember who, but he hear a prophesy from someone saying that his child would kill him, or overthrow him, or something of that sense. And, classically, he sealed his fate by trying to stop this from happening. By eating his children to make sure they wouldn't have the chance, he became viewed negatively by his wife and children. When Zeus found out about what happened, he led a revolution to free his siblings and seal the titans away.

Right on the money. So his kids want to kill him because he eats them. Go figure.

That seems like such a cliched prophesy really. It has happened so many times and each time the father gets scared and starts killing his children instead of pulling out. Then the child knowing that the father did goes for revenge or it ends up being and inadvertent thing such as the case with Oedipus (hehe, now I'm remembering that video with the vegetables).

But really in the end if the father would have just ignored it and raised his child right none of it would have happened. I think the oracles would have field days telling prophesies and watching people try to fight it but instead they are doing just the thing to cause it.

...I love those twisted bitches.

I love that story more than any of the other stories of the greek gods. Greek Mythology was always my favorite. Greek and Norse... I think it was Norse...

I never understood how Poseidon made horses though... I mean... why would he care about land animals? Seahorses maybe, but horses? Really?

See: The latest Pokemon movie. I love that the villain is in fact the oracle, and yet, all his visions are self-fulfilling in that exact same way.

I actually remember that story.

Anyhow one thing I love about Greek mythos is because they are so crazy they stick with you.

But one thing gets to me. Zeus went around impregnating human women (most of the time in the form of an animal so something was up with those ladies back then giving it up to a swan and stuff) but he did impregnate the women and people criticize him and call him weird.

God knocks up a married woman yet it's acceptable. And Christians denounce and put down the Greek gods and call them foul and amoral for doing the same.

I have pissed off a lot of people with that statement.

common myth is that Rhea hid Zeus away and gave Kronos a rock to eat instead. Zeus freed his 5 other siblings from their father's stomach and Kronos was overthrown.

Zeus swallowed Thetis when he heard a prophecy that she would bear a boy more powerful than Zeus. Thetis is the mother of Athena

My personal favorite myth of all time is the Norse one where Thor loses a wrestling match to an old woman who just happens to be Fate.

Just imagine the s**t-talking he had to endure once word got out about that.
