Siddah What I find interesting is, if you take two words that sound the same - higher and hire - they have a different amount of syllables.
hire: hahyuhr
higher: high·er
That's why the word "fire" is confusing to me. It has to do with the number of vowels in a word that are considered 'active' for lack of better term. It's why the english language IS so confusing.

I agree with that Siddah. It was far more easy to learn italian as a second language. I couldn't imagine having to learn English, with all it's slang and everything as a second language.

It's probably the same way with other languages too, to a very small extent. And there are differences in English too.
there's Brit English, Aussie English, and American English. The differences there are enough to make my head hurt too!
