Well, I thought Regulus's death in canon was pointless. Why not have Kreacher take him out of there? ...So I came up with my own ideas. Voldemort had made Regulus into a Horcrux (perhaps because the youngest Black brother was so delicious) so Regulus, wanting to make sure Voldemort would be as mortal as possible, intended to die in that cave all along. It would also help explain why Regulus figured out about the Horcruxes when no one else could (and you'd think dark magic loving Death Eaters'd be smarter about it, especially since Voldemort was always blabbing about wanting to be immortal): Voldemort had done some freaky magic to him and he researched it because he was all like 'wtf.'

Well if I were Regulus, I'd rather be killed and eaten/drowned by zombies then let Voldemort get his hands on me. o_o (Cuz IRL Voldemort is scary)
Besides, if Voldemort had made him into a horcrux, or was totally lusting after him or something, Regulus would totally want to payback him by dying and stuff. xD So he wouldn't get his bootycall anymore.
I thing Regulus thought the locket would be found sooner, rather than later....
Voldemort/Regulus, oh bby. It seems much more likely than any other pairing, to me. O_O

Well, if Reg WAS a Horcrux though, Voldemort wouldn't be as likely to kill him.. not right off, anyway. And when I think of them as a pairing, it's always only dubcon on Reg's end.. he always comes off as a little Gryffindor to me, far more like his brother than his family ever noticed... he just loved said family too much to disgrace them like Sirius.
I think he had serious regrets about not following Sirius's path a little more, at least in not being a Death Eater. He wanted to escape his bloody mistakes with such desperation he didn't stick around to plan the locket's destruction better.

Haha... if Reg was a Horcrux and Voldemort's boytoy, he'd be even more reluctant to kill him off.
I think you're right in your assessment of Regulus though. 3nodding
And about the dubcon part. Hence his dying.
I always thought Reg was a little sweetie. I mean, Sirius always hated Kreature, but Regulus loved the little bugger....
I think in a way, Sirius ended up being more like his family, even though he got away from them.
