Kask- Haha it's referring to the Mist gennin partaking in the exams. You guys came a little too late.
I know. So we're basically the extension of the group - Genin who came a little too late for the exams. sad But still, will become Chunin sooner than later and will kick arse! scream XD. I wish I could have my head band now, though. And a few scrolls...

If the jutsu itself calls for direct sight contact, then I'd say that it's fair game. If the jutsu does not call for direct sight contact, then... no.

Are you resilient to genjutsu in any way?

Utakata is a Genjutsu technique utilized by Akatsuki member Uchiha Itachi. Itachi will start this technique by using only one finger on his right hand. His target does not have to look into his eyes, a glance at the hand itself will be enough. Once inside the illusion, he can control the visions the ninja sees. This illusion can also be used to play on the fears of the target, causing them to see and hear those who they care about degrade them.

If he didn't point at you, then no... it was a bluff. The eye contact part appears to be part of what the Sharingan is capable of, not the 'pointing'.

That genjutsu shouldn't be usable by those who don't have the Sharingan.

The description itself implies that it's got two possible triggers. Eye contact and the hand. Tonight is the night we become Great! The Stars are what gave us away!

It's worded poorly.
The trigger is for the opponent to look at the user's extended finger... if I'm not mistaken...
And, you're correct, it should be removed, Mak.
