C'mon. Marth was the first FE lord.
Pulling him from the game would go completely against the concept of the "Fans' Game" that Sakurai is working so hard to achieve.
He's got a huge amount of reason to be in.
Well Roy has just as much reason to be in, and I guess Sakurai figured that if both couldn't be in, he'd just cut both and replace them with Ike.
Roy's from FE:6...
Not as near as monumental. It could be argued that it was his first game, but it was more of an advert.
I'm talking about series, not games. They're clones of each other, not to mention they were both in Melee. It's time to give another character from FE a chance to shine. Sure, the game is about fanservice, that's actually what Sakurai is still remaining loyal to by putting Ike in. But I'm sure he cares more about getting rid of clones this game, which they are. Ike fights similarly enough to them anyways. Hold it there dude. Ike fights nothing like Marth. Even as someone who never uses Marth, that's pretty apparent.
2 of their specials are similar, yes. But they do not even look like they play similarly. It's like saying Mewtwo and Fox both play similarly because they both have reflecting moves and a directional recovery.

The only move Ness can use, that is his own, is PK Flash. I'd also like to point out that Ness was to be removed from Smash Bros Melee but was left in because Mother3 was pushed back. I'm pretty certain that they just bumped that decision into Smash Bros Melee.
And the guy that said that Ike is replacing Marth and Roy is lying. More than likely, he's bound by an iron clad confidentiality waver. If he's released news THREE times and hasn't had legal action set on him by Nintendo, then he's simply spreading useless rumors.

From what I understand, Ness learns the following in Earthbound:
Lifeup (α, β, γ, and Ω)
Hypnosis (α and Ω)
PSI Rockin' (α, β, γ, and Ω)
Healing (α, β, γ, and Ω)
Shield (α, β, and γ)
Paralysis (α and Ω)
PSI Flash (α, β, γ, and Ω)
Teleport (α and β)
It's Paula and Poo who learned PSI Fire, Freeze, Thunder, and Magnet.
And it makes no difference whether it was canceled or delayed (though you are right, it was canceled in 2000 and transfered to the GBA three years later). According to the the Japanese Smash Bros Melee site, on Ness Profile to be more specific, Lucas was intended to be in Smash Bros Melee in place of Ness but was pulled out due to that fiasco. It is likely that that is what occurred here.
Confidentiality wavers are used for the sole purpose of keeping information from leaking to the general public before the time that the company desires the news to be broken. If you ignore that waver, you are going to be sued, especially if you are dealing with a company as big as Nintendo. And I think that that the benefit of keeping the rest of the information from leaking would outweigh the cost of confirming two or three rumors.
Oh, and Buster, I'm a guy. I don't know what it is about this Hair style that makes people assume I'm a girl but that is the second time it's happened (the first time was with the black-to-green fade hair).
