Ruby gave a slight nod as the key dissipated. "That'd be hard, havin' kill only powers like that." She suddenly felt quite grateful for her healing powers.
Sahira smiled, "Rather nice of you, Onyx. But keys in general are easier to kill, especially when you don't have any moral doubts on the matter."

"I'm not going to kill you, Ra, even if you gave me cause to. I'd rather subdue and get the adrenaline out of my head before something as big as life or death is weighed."
The Chief paused, then gave a short, barking laugh. "I suppose it doesn't just kill. My ol' mam's a testament to that."

Sahira chuckled, "I know, which is why I said I could take you. But if it gives you comfort somewhere, I wouldn't choose to kill you either."
Ruby tilted her head, "I sense a story, Charly, go on an' tell it please."

"That'd be a kindness, 'Ra.
"Back when I was a kid, moved to Oregon only a little bit ago, so you can understand the grumpy kid thing. Well, I didn't know I was a Super, though my parents were expectant, being both supers themselves. Anyways, one night I was remarkably unhappy about something, and I kinda exploded." The Chief's eyes glazed over slightly as he continued to speak. "I remember my mom screaming, me lying on my a**, feeling like my chest was on fire, and my dad saying words I hadn't heard yet." He exhaled sharply from his nose in a quick burst, almost as if he were laughing, but finding it less funny.
"Anyways, as I had recounted by my parents, I exploded for whatever reason, and that black mist shot out everywhere, and one of the things caught my mom in the leg. She freaked out, as I can understand, and hit me in the chest with a bolt of lightning, sending me flying into the other room. My dad ran in, and luckily his power was close enough to mine that he could stop the mist, but not till after it ate up her leg." He chuckled again, mirth returned.
"Old bat wouldn't let them give her one of the new high-tech legs that works better than the real thing. She insisted on a peg-leg, to make me feel bad every time I saw her. Crazy old woman."

Sahira chuckled, " sounds like a lovely pair of folks, Onyx."
Ruby however had a couple tears trailing down her cheeks. "Oh you poor thin'."

"Xactly! She won't let me forget about it! Everytime I see her, she makes a big ruckus about how I crippled her, how I ruined her life, and this is how I repay her for ruining her figure and taking away the best years of her life."

"I'm sure you didn't mean it, Sugar." Ruby crawled over and hugged him, then sat back down on her pillow.
Sahira was trying to hold in her laughter.

The Chief glanced up at Ruby, raising an eyebrow.
"Um... the last thing was kinda sarcastic. I mean, it all happened, but neither of us are all that mortified about it. She just gives me crap. . ." He was rather weirded out, and not all attempting to mask it.

Ruby through a pillow at his head. "Then you shouldn'ta been playin' like it was some tragedy."
Sahira was now crying too, from the laughter at the Cheif's weirded out look, the story, and Ruby's habit of sometimes misunderstanding situations.

"Well it wasn't the best of times, but it was a long time ago." He said, the pillow bouncing off. "And what are you laughing about?" He snatched up the pillow, placing it on the one under his butt.

Sahira silenced her laughter to a few chuckles. "Nothing, nothing at all, Onyx."
"I think she's laughin' at you, Charly." Ruby pointed out.

Sahira chuckled, "and what was it that you wanted in return of your story, Onyx?"

"Hmm, that I can arrange." Sahira stood up and walked to the chief, reaching for the empty mug. Her hand brushed against his leg as she picked up the mug. She was curious if he would squirm.
