ubergeist Wait...did they actually make pulse pistols? I know of some site with rules for them. Prettymuch your basic pistol with tau pulse stats. Though they were like only for your commander when they were outside a suit xp

zysac they are only giving more benifits to the etreals because not to many people use them. hence why all th enew fancy ethreals and ethreal upgrades....personaly i still probably wont play any ethreals. mostly becuase i play farsight and hes not alowed to take them. but i wont be playing ethreals still in a normal army either Benefits? I highly dislike the new models, drones are bad for protecting an Ethereal because they make him targetable by eliminating his IC status, shield drones will be even more useless for protecting Ethereals with thier new rules, and the Inspiring Presence rule is being changed to only affect Tau within LOS of an Ethereal. The only benefit I've heard is the ability to take a retinue of Fire Warriors with BS4. I like taking Ethereals in the current ruleset, but I'm afraid when the new codex comes out, I'll probably be phasing them out of my Tau forces.

Pulse pistols seem to only be equipped by crisis pilots who have used their escape mechanism. I'm thinking they might include it in the new commander sprue.
I'll probably still take Ethereals. My guys tend to hang out in one area anyway, so LoS won't be too much of a problem. I always attach him to a squad of Fire Warriors to protect him, so giving him his own Honour Guard squad with BS 4 is excellent. They've changed Price of Failure so that anyone who takes the leadership test when the Ethereal dies gets Preffered Enemy against whoever your fighting. This might help a little, but probably not too much.
Stingwing squads are very fast, but i don't like the range on their guns. It's only 12", and their stat lines are like a guardsmen, so you can only get a single burst of fire before you get assaulted and owned. Its going to require some skill to use them effectively.

Its going to require some skill to use them effectively. it sounds to me that teh stingwings are going to need alot o fbackup to be effective in tau....like most other tau things that get to close to the enimy. they are either going to end up being clean up crews or the head of an attack with other units suporting it do kill off an entire squad. i personally dont think that i will be using them, there not mobil enough for me. i play a kinda screwed up mech tau that uses some human helpers to carry markerlights and sit still marking things up while the rest of my army moves 12 a turn(i dont own pathfinders yet and have yet to test them for lack of a spare devilfish...im poor so i use what i have) i still favor the static markerlights though because it gives some sort of bait for my oponent...they get pissed at my markerlights so tend to attack them out of fury and ending up being in sight of every wepon in my army (many a hive tyrant have met there end at the barrals of an army of plasma rifles and fusion blasters...all because he couldnt catch my suits and the markerlights were gettign anoying) i still have yet to read the new codex and i dont have a job so even when it comes out i doubt that i will be able to buy it....its sad. tau make me want to come up with some fluff that resembles gundam wing...LOL

If it's like Chinese it's pronounced T(like in tickle)Ow(like Cow)
As for the Assult five gun it's might be Ap5..I forget.I know it fires 5 shots though.

The Cyclic Ion Blaster or some such. I'm unimpressed by the weapon as I've heard it. It's Assault 5, true, but it's also Str 3. If it had true rending, then I'd take it with no hesitation, but insted, it gets the wonky "to wound rolls of a 6 are AP 1" thing instead. I'm much more impressed by Vectored Engines, which are supposed to give one suit the ability to hit and run, and the new Markerlight rules, which sound sweeter and sweeter each time I hear them.

the reason it's Str 3 is to stop it being anti tank. It's a troop killer and a mighty effctive one against IG,Orks and 'Nids.
