Ok, so I was in a rally and was talking with some ppl and asked them if they played any instuments and I met this person who used to play F.Horn then quit. So, being that I have only played for a year I asked him if he had any tips and he told me that he had only 1, which was to quit! I told well that is kind of a problem cuz I am the best player in my grade, but not a section leader cuz um...only higher grades are able to be section leader, but i bet I will be one someday!

p.s. any tips...

Are you playing on a double or a single horn? Otherwise the only real tip I can offer is to start practicing scales and try to get them into the double and triple octave range. Every scale can be done double and if your skilled you can do a good number of them triple octave. Another thing I recommend is to start practicing your tonguing by doing this little trick. Play 3 measures on a on the staff G. 1st measure is quarter notes, next is eigth notes, and the last would be sixteenth. Pick whatever tempo you want to do that on.

I am now a senior in high school and love my french horn/mellophone. This year for marching band we are playing Thriller and Beetlejuice it's awsome. I can't wait for our first competition.

At my skool we do this thing called "tour of skools", which is where we go to the elementary skools and play reconizible tunes to try to convince the 5th graders to join band.Thos year we played the Starwars theme, Indiana Jones theme, and a song called "Super Heros r Us". in Super Heros R Us it has 4 different theme songs, Superman theme, James Bond theme, Batman theme, and my personal favorite, Austin Powers theme! I just love the F.Horn and band.

I went back to my Elementary school and did that. I convinced my friend's little brother to play French Horn, but his Mom won't let him because she refuses to carry it cuz it's so big.

Don't be nervous! The upperclassmen will help you out. Or at least should. The only thing I can say is listen to your section leader and director(s). Marching comes with practice, like anything else.

other than that, I don't know. I'm not the best for advice. sweatdrop

Other than that, you can prepare by doing pushups. Not much, just ten a day to get you in shape. You'll be doing them anyway. The first couple of days of band camp might feel like torture but they get better.

Evara's right, your section leaders and directors should be able to get you through it.

well, why does his mother have to carry it? Let him do it!!!! That way, he'll get stronger! Survival of the fittest!!! And french horns are at the top with our symmetry in sound and size!!! woot!
