Considering that the girl on the other end may be busy with something, Chester wouldn't mind waiting for her reply. What mattered was that the two were finally in the coffee shop. The place wasn't that crowded, much to the DJ's relief. He began falling in line, he being a kid compared to some people who were much taller than him. A part of the cacophony came from the TV showing the news. Nothing interesting, which was a bummer, really. His eyes were now cast onto the menu options available, more specifically the desserts. "So, what do you want as accompaniment to your drink? I'll go with the strawberry cheesecake," he said, "Then I'll go with the iced coffee." It had been a while since he tasted anything with strawberries, after all. Recently, he was working with chocolate, mint or any other fruit that was in season. He had baked cookies recently, together with cupcakes, but that was all that he could do because of his busy schedule with studying for the exams.
The tengu exhaled lowly as he casually watched out the window, his arms splayed across the back of his chair as if he were escorting two beautiful women on his sides. Alas, both spaces were empty. But as he idly watched the passersby, his ankle resting on one knee, his caution of the town became more apparent to himself. The town had been full of supernaturals. When it came down to it, how had Bree managed to remain safe throughout this past year or two? Aside from her recent marital issues of course. He grimaced, lip twitching as he eyed the exact spot next to Pezzle's he had been leaning against before he was approached by the Teagan. It was never his intention to run into the honey brunette. He had planned to avoid him entirely - though really hadn't thought he would see him here at all. Especially out and about so happily. What was his plan through all of it? He had expected Finn to perhaps ask if he could pass a word along to Bree, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Instead he had acted as if they were the closest of friends and had seen each other almost every week, if not every month. His jaw flexed as he caught a slight whiff of another hot pastry passing over the counter to another customer.
He itched to stretch his wings. Perhaps he'd go on a flight today, assuming the humidity would disperse the further he moved up. Though he doubted it for an ocean clad city. Or perhaps he'd take Bree. The thought of her curls bounding with the wind until they flopped against his chest was enough for his heart to gently clench. He missed her. Her scent, the purple of her glittering eyes. And now, she was with someone else. He sighed. It was never destined for them to be together, he could understand that by now. But that wasn't to say he could let go of his emotions just as easily. A blueberry muffin with a bite-sized chunk devoured from it sat on the table, crumbs splayed over a white napkin and perched against a half cup of black coffee - now cold with abandonment. He needed to stop by to see if she had decided to go through with the redesign or if it were already complete.

As soon as he entered the building, he was casing the joint: looking for all possible exits and cover, assessing number of people and giving them a cursory threat assessment. After that, it was on to figuring out who the best targets would be and how difficult he thought they were. It wasn't even a conscious action anymore, just something he had trained himself to do every time he changed scene. And analyzing people as both threat and target was something he did every time he saw someone new. Finally, his eye settled on the prices, and he felt about as disheartened as he had expected: everything here was kind of on the expensive side. Oh well, he had been expecting this, so he was already looking for cheaper choices. He had some money on him, true, but he was kind of hoping to use it to by dinner at some point, but he could just do a super cheap dinner. "Probably just going to get a cupcake and iced tea. Don't want to get too much of a sugar rush when I'm supposed to be trying to cool off. Plus Krotak likes cupcakes." Sensing the drift of the conversation, Krotak cawed happily and dug his talons in a little tighter in anticipation. Erik grimaced as the talons poked at his skin. "Stupid bird," he muttered under his breath.

Cupcakes? Oh boy, Chester never realized that there would be another fan of such delightful baked goods. "Come to think of it, I once worked as a baker before moving along to becoming a DJ," he confessed. However, he would keep the specific flavors a secret; who knows if someone would steal the recipes unless Chester would be kind enough to share. Knowing that it would take a while before it would be their turn to order, he changed the subject. "Okay, so, what's your specific method when it comes to studying for the driving license exams? I won't mind looking for a few tips," he asked, being curious. With each person moving away from the line, he took a step forward. His orange eyes were gazing at the display case and some of the freshly baked goods were now in the display case, an indication for which flavors of certain goods would be available for today.

" Order for a Vas--ilisa ?"
The female barista behind the counter called out into the sizable crowd at the Moon-bucks Cafe at the heart of the shopping district in Soleli. It was not the earliest time of the day, however it was brunch. "Brunch" seems to attract anyone or everyone out of the woodwork to celebrate eating in the middle of the day. Especially shoppers or tourists who came for a stay at the beautiful beach. It was a really weird tradition
A pink-haired woman dawning an all black outfit approached the counter at that moment. She had to get up from her window seat and slipped by a couple of people to get there. But Val was able to and grabbed her order from the working employee. An order composed of a banana nut muffin and a medium black coffee. Hardly anything too fancy or huge, the meal was simple. Something to feed the hunger.
Val grabbed a few packets of sugar as the female called out another name. However, when Val turned back around to go back to her window Her seat was occupied by a couple. She cursed under her breath. Val didn't want to waste energy fighting over a seat. Scanning the cafe, she found a few seats available by a well dressed guy positioned in a manner when he own the world and looked like he was thinking that he just may one day.....Val walked over to his booth."Is these seats taken?" Val said as politely as she could with a non-judgmental tone.

He could bake as well, though it wasn't like it was something he really enjoyed doing, just one of several skills he had picked up as the oldest of a small army of children. He could also do most household chores, sew, had a cursory knowledge of first aid, and knew way too many kids movies line for line. "If you ever want someone to test recipes on, I am definitely available." Well, Mary would have been a better tester than him, but he was definitely not going to mention his family around someone who was still basically a stranger. He sort of shrugged when asked how he studied, "not a good one to base off of. I had some older friends, and they took me driving down some back streets that no one really cares about. That and I read the book, but...I've got a better memory than most, so reading it once was enough for me." If given a few moments to think back on it, he could still quote from the freaking book, not that that was of any help really. "Flash cards are probably a good idea, if they work for you. Any chance you could borrow a vehicle and take it for a cruise? First hand really is the best."

It didn't take much for Jacob to come to attention - he had been eyeing the pinkette on her way to his table. Her ruddy purple aura almost was muddy against his supernatural sight, of which he quickly tuned out - or at least, ignored somewhat. He had grown used to being able to. But this city held so much coloring that he knew it would take some practice if he were to stay for a while. His broad chest expanded with another long inhale as she made her way over. It was fairly rare he found someone of her species. But even so, he wasn't keen on small talk. He placed his foot on the ground and gingerly nodded his chin towards the booth opposite him. He had intended for the table to stay to himself, but supposed there was no harm if she was so keen to sit near him; he couldn't say he wasn't not used to it by now. "No, go ahead." His golden-yellow gaze analyzed her but made sure she wasn't acutely aware of it, something trained constantly as a Tengu clan member. Especially one of higher ranking. She reminded him of a witch.
It was a tad awkward to say the least for him. He didn't often sit with people unless he wanted to spark a conversation or have a meeting with them.

He grinned, "Okay, free samples will come around soon whenever I feel like it. I'll let you know." In fact, apart from the acquaintances her met, some that even decided to leave Soleil for personal reasons, he hadn't had a taste tester whom he interacted for a long time. His brow raised quizzically at Erik's narration and frowned at the mention of flash cards and borrowing someone else's vehicle. "That's actually what I did earlier before you startled me, the flash cards I mean. Plus, I doubt that someone with a scooter will allow me to borrow their vehicle. Some drivers can be quite territorial, y'know?" he said. Two more people to go, and it would be their turn to order something here. "But I appreciate the thought as long as someone's generous enough to lend me a hand on scooter driving through practical exercises," he continued on, knowing that things would turn out fine even if it would take a while to make such plan coming true.

He had a long record as a taste tester already, and it was work he would gladly start up again. "I saw you using the flash cards, that's why I suggested them. It would seem they are something you at least think helps, which is half of the battle. And sure, there are some tight asses about who can and can't use their vehicle, but if you have any close mates around, I'm sure they would let you." When he was learning to drive a car, was it even one of his friend's car that he was using? Knowing them, there was a decent chance it wasn't. Erik had never been much into hot-wiring, even if he did know how to do it, but some of the people he knew did it all of the time. Now that he thought about it...yeah, some of those cars had been stolen. No way in hell people he knew would have a mustang. "So...why a scooter and not a car? Planning on keeping it only in the city?" He supposed they were pretty convenient for cities: didn't take up much space, fast enough that you wouldn't get run over, fairly fuel efficient; but he would definitely wind up as roadkill if he tried taking it anywhere else. And that would just be a waste of time and resources.

Upon hearing Erik asking about his vehicle choices, that was when Chester laughed sheepishly. "That's all I can think of for now because of my height. I doubt that there will be any car that fits well for my build without me having to reach to the foot pedal with less difficulty. Plus, money issues," he confessed. Plus, it would beyond what the parents would provide to him at this moment, with budgeting being the main issue here and there. "But I'll see what I can do," he added. It was still uncertain, but better than not trying. One more, then it would be their turn to order, and Chester received the reply to the message on his phone. A bit late since the sender on the other end may be busy, but at least there's the answer.
"That's good. Send me an update ASAP."
"Looks like there may be a job offer coming around to you soon, but gotta wait for the details," he spoke to Erik. Unknown on whether there would be free stuff coming along with being an employee of sorts, but best to take whatever opportunity that was available.

There was no need for him to act all sheepish about financial problems: Erik was literally homeless and was making just enough money to keep himself alive. He couldn't even afford a pair of skates, much less an actual motorized vehicle. "Just curious. Definitely help in a city." All of this standing around was making him want a cigarette so badly, but that was another thing he had been forced to cut back on. Food and a place to stay came first, cigs came after if he could afford it. Though frankly, most of the time he just swiped them out of shirt pockets, purses, and the stores themselves. It wasn't very glorious, but it kept his habit alive and kept him more sane than he otherwise would have been.
His eyes beamed at the mention of a job. "Hell yeah, finally some steady work." Even if he didn't know what it was yet, it couldn't have been anything too bad, right? Not knowing who it was that Chester contacted, he couldn't get a read on what sort of job it was, but he had literally been hired out by a gang to snoop and commit minor crimes: most anything else wouldn't be as bad. He just hoped that whatever it was, he didn't have to go through a ton of rigamarole to get them to let Krotak stay with him. No way in hell was he going to go somewhere without his see-and-eye raven.

It was then that Chester described the job offer. "My acquaintance has a friend who has metalworking as his job. Mainly, you have to assist the person with some things, but I know you can do it, with you being adaptive," he said. The DJ believed that the offer may help to let Erik earn some money, even if it would be just temporary. "It may be best to contact her as soon as possible if you wanna take the offer," he added. Finally, it was time for the two to order what they would like from Moonbucks. There was the need to double-check to make sure that everything's correct before the transaction would be finalized. And after that, while the orders were being prepared, Chester was now wondering about how Erik got the eye-patch. Did something happened that caused a severe eye injury to the one concealed behind that patch? Best to keep that discussion for later.

Metalworking? Well that was new. He was going to ask for more details, but it was their turn in line and he hated when people took way longer in line because they were dithering or distracted or something. So freaking rude. He gave his order and paid quickly, a little saddened to see the money taken, but it was all for a good cause in the end probably. "I'm going to either need to borrow a phone then, or have an address to contact them. Mine's been disconnected for months now." When it had gotten to the point that he had to choose between being able to call people, and being able to eat, well, the choice had been really easy. Thus far, he hadn't accumulated enough funds yet to get his phone turned back on. "This person, they are down with having a bird around, right? Krotak here is officially licensed and all, so he's no real bother to anyone but me." Krotak gave him a light peck for that one, but he was used to the abuse from this annoying semi-human.

"Hmmm... My acquaintance is living in Lumiere. 1504 Lumiere... if I can recall correctly. Rich kid residence, but at least her business was flourishing there. Her friend was also living there, his business established there as well," he spoke. To be fair, he didn't know what her house looked like, but he had a bet that it was a huge one. "And her friend's actually a raven, so hoping that you two will work out well," he added, laughing sheepishly. His words may come back to bite him in the a--, but he had no knowledge of how Erik would see upon meeting the two personally. The orders were finally ready and Chester was the one paying for them all before he picked up the tray and went to the empty table a bit far from the window so that Erik would sit down as well. Once the two settled down, he retrieved all the lesson notes and flash cards from his bag so that the study session may begin in a bit.

Even with the short amount of time he had been around, he knew where the freaking ridiculously rich people were, and yeah, that address sounded like it was right in the middle of them. The fact that the main person had a roommate didn't change the fact that at least one if not both of them were majorly rich. He...kind of couldn't help but feel a bit jealous. "I'll stop by then. Hopefully no one will call the cops on me." It wouldn't be the first time he had seen someone get badgered by the police just because they didn't look like they belonged. He had been run out of plenty enough towns to know that if you didn't look the part, there were plenty of places that would rather just dump you. It was annoying as hell, but it was what it was. Chester's next comment completely stunned him. "Wait wha-? Like there's a literal bird who does metalwork, or someone who shifts forms or what?" Wasn't the first rule of the supernatural community that you didn't talk about the supernatural community? Even Krotak was paying more attention to the conversation now, wondering what this other raven was like. Maybe raven/human hybrids were more common than he thought.
Apparently he wasn't going to have to pay for anything for the moment. Chester swooped in and covered the bill, much to Erik's relief. "Thanks for everything." Damn. Now he almost felt obligated to make sure Chester passed the test. He didn't need much of an invitation to join Chester at the table. He quickly flipped through the cards, his eye darting over the words, committing them all to memory. If quizzed, he would be able to quote any of the cards verbatim.
