a WTF moment recently...

I returned to a friend's guild after having left for around four or five years. In person he was willing to tell me about the neat things happening in his RP guild. I lent an ear, I took a mild interest.

Ever since I quit that place I wanted to turn away from the way I used to RP. I'd make clearer posts, I stopped using the asterisk-action method, I took steps to improve how I RP. Apparently there, nothing has changed. No real solid profiles, no profile updates, rampant use of single line posts, and colors to indicate characters that a person just walking in would know exactly nothing about. I don't think I can return to that. I certainly don't want to return to that. I tried. It didn't go over too well. The RP might not travel as quickly as it did six years ago, but it's the same quality. It's still the same cliche sort of comic book adventures, but far more confusing since my hiatus.

That opens up a whole new can of worms. I'm just going to throw out what I know based off of the mythos from one of the pen and paper games I play.

*** God/goddess + mortal = lesser immortal (you know them as demi-gods). Some special abilities, almost always relating to the realm of the divine parent. All lesser immortals will regenerate from any wound other than a full beheading or total consumption by acid or fire.
*** God/goddess + lesser immortal = nothing. Lesser immortals are sterile unless they achieve full godhood and fix the plumbing.
*** Greater Immortal + mortal = lesser immortal. Usually with 'weaker' special abilities than lesser immortals with a god or goddess as parent.
*** Greater Immortal + lesser immortal = nothing. Lesser immortals are still sterile.

Final bit is that in this mythos the gods can't have children amongst themselves. Greater Immortals are usually considered gods for ease of referral.

So nice to have my comp back. That snail slow loaner was so annoying.

Like I said, that information is just from a pen and paper game. Doesn't really apply to all other mythos. Especially the incredibly creepy, twisted, and incestuous Greek and Roman mythos.

My desire for argument requires me to mention Zeus, a son of the titan Cronus. Zeus, whose story is anything but short and simple. Like when he gets a headache and has to have his head smashed open with a hammer by his own crippled son so that a fully grown young woman, HOLDING A FREAKING SPEAR AND WEARING ARMOR, could leap from his brain pan.

Speaking of Hephaestus, his parents were brother and sister. I wonder why he was born with withered legs...

Somehow I knew I was going to make a bit of a fool of myself. Oh well. Was fun while it lasted.

Agreed. The Greek and Roman deities did some pretty messed up stuff. My personal favorite bout of jealousy was when Artemis turned a hunter into a deer for seeing her naked. Then turned the guy's own hunting dogs on him. What a b***h. Of course, Pandora's Box is always worth a chuckle too. Especially with this recent wave of jewelry being named after her.
