A bad king has a cellar of 1,000 bottles of delightful and very expensive wine.
A neighboring queen plots to kill the bad king and sends a servant to poison the wine.
Unfortunately the bad king's guards catch the servant trying to poison. ANd after much interrogation the poisoner confesses to only poisoning one bottle but dies before he can tell which one.
Alas, the guards do not know which bottle but know that the poison is so strong that even if diluted 1,000,000 times it would still kill the king.
Furthermore, it takes one month to have an effect.
The bad king decides he will get some of the prisoners in his vast dungeons to drink the wine.
Being a clever bad king he knows he can murder no more than 10 prisoners - believing he can fob off such a low death rate - and will still be able to drink the rest of the wine at his anniversary party in 5 weeks time.
Explain how

Explain how Have each prisoner drink some of one bottle of wine a day. When the right prisoner dies, subtract one month. Maybe???

YOu're on the right track, but it's more complicated than that, how do you get only 10 prisoners? in under a month.

Hmmmmm a clue.... ok, she was on the right track, but instead of every five hours, each prisoner drinks a new set of bottles every day. How about that for a hint?

That's what I meant - I think. Each day, each prisoner drinks some a total of 20 bottles for a total of 5 days. But I'm not sure how to tell which one is poisoned....
Edit: this way, he'll only loose 20 bottles of wine, but I don't know how to set it up so he looses only 1.

I'm going to use the answer that was found online. Since there are actually two answers to this puzzle.
First and simplest one. Simply assign 1000 prisoners each one drinks a little bit from a bottle and the one that dies it's that bottle.
Now, if you're limited to only using 10 prisoners to find it.... Assume the poision takes exactly 30 days to take effect.
Label the 1000 bottles as b1, b2, ..., b1000. Get 10 prisoners. Call them p1, p2, ..., p10.
Day 1: p1 drinks b1-b100. p2 drinks b101-b200. ... p10 drinks b901-b1000.
Day 2: p1 drinks b1-b10, b101-b110, b201-b210, ..., b901-910. p2 drinks b11-b20, b111-b120, b211-b220, ..., b911-920. ... p10 drinks b91-b100, b191-b200, b291-b300, ..., b991-1000.
Day 3: p1 drinks b1, b11, b21, ..., b901. p2 drinks b2, b12, b22, ..., b902. ... p10 drinks b10, b20, b30, ..., b1000.
After 30 days, 1 of those 10 prisoners will die --> Narrow search to 100 bottles. After 31 days, 0-1 of the 9 prisoners left will die --> Narrow search to 10 bottles. After 32 days, 0-1 of the 8 or 9 prisoners left will die --> Bottle with poison found.

Here's one: Mom, Dad, and 2 kids have come to a river, and they find a boat. It is small and can only carry one adult or 2 kids at a time. Both kids are good rowers, but how can the whole family reach the other side of the river?
