Lady Pyre I hate how whenever somebody dies they automatically become some amazing superhero who never did anything wrong. Especially when the people making such a fuss over said person's greatness NEVER EVEN MET THE PERSON. I think that applies beyond dead people; Even people who were dumped by their girlfirend/boyfriend can remember how "perfect" everything was and how "happy" they were, completely ignoring the bad parts that led to the relationship's downfall in the first place. But yeah. I agree. I believe that a lot of people have selective memories, only remembering the things that support their overall opinion of the matter. :0

i was thinking about this hero thing today at work - damn! THAT's what i was going to write in my journal today, but i already did it, damn - because on the cover of the stupid tabloid newspaper it called steve irwin a hero. they weren't calling him a hero while he was still alive. they're basically saying that dying makes you a hero. i call bullshit on that. get the ******** out of here. my aunt died last year - does that make her a hero? no! it makes her dead! getting cancer is not heroic! being dead does not change her fundamental attributes and give her greater strength of character! she was a nice lady most of the time and i'm unbelievably sad that she's not alive anymore but that does NOT make her a hero. anything that would have made her a hero, she would have done while she was STILL ALIVE.
so if they weren't moved enough by steve irwin's actions WHILE HE WAS ALIVE to call him a hero THEN, calling him one NOW is not only a steaming pile of nutty-brown bullshit, it's also an egregious bastardization of the english language and the meaning of the WORD "hero."

Reminds me of that kid who killed himself over a stolen Ipod and some minor bullying, and they called him a hero. Or people who died when the twin towers crashed. Sorry, dying (even in a dangerous situation) does not make you a hero.
People want heroes though, even though we hardly have people that would qualify for it. They over glorify minor things just so they have something to look up to, when they hardly realize if they got off their a** or happened to be in the right place at the right time they could be doing the same thing.
I think people try too hard to save face when someone dies, because it's supposed to mean something. Other people try too hard to mock them because it goes against "the norm" and is "cool" in their little anti-establishment world.
Dying isn't some big thing, I don't see why people make a fuss out of it. Everybody dies, we all know it, you don't need to over glorify the fact that someone finally bit it.

I thought I was being weird for not caring that some random person died, famous or no.
I HATE MORNINGS LIKE THIS D: D: D: D: D:
Don't look forward to attempting to unfog my windows. Maybe I should turn it on ten minutes before I leave or something..

I did think of you when I typed that, yes. You and Sam. I remember after reading Catcher in the Rye, there was a big discussion on the way Holden admired his deceased older brother, whose greatness seemed magnified by his death.

To which we do naturally if someone is gone, wouldn't we? Someone we love so dearly, dead... to remember all the great things, and not the stupid flaws that may have happened. Me and Sam? I would've thought more like subtracting a s-a-m and adding a y-o-u. But you know. How I think is crazy stuff. Clarifcation: How I think about the past relationship. ~

Sure. People probably want to leave a good impression after they're gone, but it all just goes to say we have "selective memories" - not looking at things objectively. :]
It's not a bad thing, but it's not always good either.
