Links fixed.
And since he has devoted his life to a specific style, his zanpakutou (being a manifestation of your personality/soul/whatever you wanna call it) would manifest in a form that benefits that style (i.e. six swords). All the swords share the same reiryoku pool, so it's not like six individual zanpakutous, more like six incarnations of a single zanpakutou.
