Now for some philosophical reasoning.
Valentines day. There are two different, yet equally troubled people: the ones with, and ones without, dates.
Situation if you do not have a date:
You look around you, and see everyone else have a date. This may not bother you, until you find that you're the only one not getting laid. But really, nothing seriously bad, unless you happen to be the fattest, ugliest, dumbest b*****d on the planet, and you realize that its not just valentines day, but every day where you won't have a significant other.
BUT...
Situation if you DO have a date:
This is much worse than those without the date. You may have someone who likes you, who wants you, and possibly is perky. But there is one obstacle: THE GIFT!
Problems concerning the gift:
Too expensive
Too cheap
Too personal
Too impersonal
Too gaudy
Too plain
Too cliche
Too lilke someone else
Too many memories
So, Considering that, you must pay a certain amount, to where you don't look like you dont care, and make it personal enough to show its specialy from you, while not going overboard and too personal to where "the date" thinks you are either a rich pompous b*****d who he/she couldn't ever possibly top for in gift giving, or think you are a stalker.
This is the experience of every valentines day. Anyone else agree?

You left out the chance of your " sweetheart " getting a gift from someone else just as you're about to walk up and give them yours.

I apply in the dateless group. I belive in the idea that there's someone for everyone, a soulmate. and I have yet to find her. I couldn't give a vrelts a** about getting tail. that part's easy. I want love. to me, Valentine's day is a day where I sit in a public place, drink and listen to songs about failed relationships, reminding myself that I am alone, while everyone else around me has someone. I work myself into a lonely sadness that lasts the day. then I go home alone and wonder if my philosophy is true, that theres someone for everyone. then I wake up the next day and get on with my life.

There is a soulmate, but for someone to find him/her is a corporal impossiblity. So, much like a computer, you try to find what's compatible...
