Following a path of hoof prints and broken saplings, Crenu knew he was on the right path. It appeared as though the Tauros Trainer didn't have full control over his pokemon. Eventually, Crenu caught up to the trainer playing with his Tauros. "How sweet. That Taurose is rather unruly is it not? How long have you had 'em for?"

Keegan stopped waking, and stared at Kasiya after her outburst. "Kasiya, you can't just go charging in there and play hero! It just doesn't work like that. You've been hanging around with Mike too long. The thing is, it is right. That woman is his rightful trainer, whether I, or you, or even Helios himself like it or not. There's nothing that can be done now. I appreciate the sentiment, Kassie, I really do. But right now I just have to get over it and move on. It's the way real life works."

By now, both Themis and Mori were staring at him. The Electrike was wide-eyed, unable to believe that his friend was gone. Mori looked more startled at the firm voice her trainer was using. Keegan eyed them both and recalled them at once - they didn't need to see this.

"A heehee hee!" Mike laughed, then slapped himself in the face. "I mean, um, that's not going to happen! You moving and stuff.." He sighed, Beacon's aura was difficult to fight off. "Thunderpunch him!" He barked, still wobbling to the side a bit.

Giggling at his trainer's antic's, Beacon wobbled forward, 'charging' at the immobile Crobat. His feet fluttered each step, brushing up against each other. The air crackled and popped around him as he ran towards Koga's fallen partner. With one swift motion, the Electric Pokemon ran over and swung his foot into his opponent's face, the kick charged with a thunderous charge.

"Goooooaaaaaaaaaaaal!" Mike cheered, throwing his arms up.

Like his Venemoth, Koga immediately recalled his partner after the damage had been inflicted. He didn't wish to see how much pain the Pokemon had been through. The man could feel it, anyway. Taking a break from the battle, Koga smiled. His body began to loosen, as the field was clear for a connection with another Pokemon. He cracked his neck and then stood with his back straight. "You are clearly a powerful trainer," he commented, "and it seems you share similarities in personality with your Pokemon. Prepare, Mike!"

The man snagged his last Pokeball from his belt and tossed it. Once again, the steaming pile of purple gunk that was a Muk took center stage. The Pokemon let out a cry, oozing his material to the grass.

Kasiya lowered her shaking fists, and decided to follow Keegan's lead. She recalled both Ariel and Flash, holding a Pokeball in each hand. She took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. "How can you be so calm at a time like this?" she asked, turning to look at him. "How!? If I were you, I don't think I'd be able to cope with it, not at all. I'd be a complete wreck! But you, you're so calm and collected. I don't understand how you could be so, so, all right with this whole thing." She felt tears welling up in her eyes, and did nothing to stop them when they started to escape down her cheeks. It was a little odd, her getting so worked up and Helios didn't even belong to her. "I'm sorry, Keegan. I just don't think I'd be able to stop crying if I were in your shoes."

"Yeah," He laughed weakly. "A little more than I'm used to I'm afraid." He rubbed his forehead, Beacon's traits gave him a headache. He smiled at the gelatinous Pokemon that was released. "It's cute!" He cried out, the Ampharos mirroring his trainer's clasped hand pose. "Unfortunately, he is still our enemy Beacon, so I want you to give him a Thunderbolt!"

The Electric Pokemon chirped, wobbling forward. As he loosed another electric bolt, he felt the Toxic attack start to really limit his movements. His skin near his legs began to bubble over, a few unsavory tastes churned in his stomach.

"Muk! Intercept the attack with a Sludge Bomb!" Koga sliced the air with his hand. He just felt as fluid as his Pokemon. With a yelp, the purple Pokemon slammed his fist upward, mirroring his trainer. The 'fist' of sludge connected with the opposing Thunderbolt, causing the damage to become nil and poisonous ooze to splatter everywhere.

Kilik stepped out of the way, as the raining ooze nearly hit him. "C'mon, Mike. You've got this one," he called out, slipping his hands into his pockets and giving a half smile.

Unfortunately, even though Muk's Sludge Bomb did not do any damage to Beacon whatsoever, the Poison status effect finally caught up with him. The Ampharos fell to the ground, wincing in pain as the acid burned at his stomach. Mike could almost feel nauseous as he recalled his partner, suddenly regaining clarity once Beacon was back in the ball. "Alright, I guess it is time for me to pull out my trump card." As he swapped Pokemon, Mike released his beloved Steelix.

Titanium reared back, a low growl causing his body to vibrate. He saw the blob of grime at his 'feet' and smirked, he knew that he held a tremendous advantage in this battle.
Mike felt a rush of confidence wash over him like a Surf attack. From here Koga looked so small, he felt powerful compared to the 'tiny' ninja. "Alright Titanium, I want you to show him you aren't messing around, Double-Edge!" The boy lowered his head, pretending to butt an imaginary opponent in front of him.

The Steelix let out a roar, launching his half ton body down at the Muk.

Kilik took a step back. It was official: he was afraid of Steelix. Not just Mike's Steelix; any Steelix. The boy's leg shook somewhat in fright, but he pushed through it. He wasn't going to let anyone see his fear.

Muk took the attack straight on, then crashed to the grass. Koga groaned in pain, then growled. He knew that nothing he could do was going to affect the Steelix at all, but he wouldn't stop there. "Muk! Minimize!" he ordered. The Pokemon scrunched together, taking on the size of a Grimer, but still retaining all power he had. His evasiveness rose higher.

Mike watched as the pesky Pokemon shrunk himself. If anything it heightened his arrogance, as it did to his Steelix. "Well, I doubt the tiny Muk could outrun a tectonic shift!" The boy lifted up his foot, crashing it onto the ground. Titanium knew exactly what to do. With one swift motion, he lifted his tail and slammed it onto the ground, a tremor causing an explosion of gravel and dirt in a circular radius around him, and Earthquake.

Portabello felt the rumbling in the ground, jumping at the right moment to avoid the shower of earth that burst underneath his feet. He landed with a graceful twirl, quite enjoying himself and his Master's sweeping victory.

Nina and company arrived in the city a short time later, spending most of the trip in silence. Raimundo and Anna were silent due to the fact that they wished for Nina to be able to mentally prep herself for whatever Pokemon she would be encountering in her trainer matches-- there would certainly be enough of them. Whitney, on the hand, was quiet probably because she was disappointed she wouldn't be getting a golden nugget of her own.

Before Nina went anywhere else, however, she stopped in at the Pokemon Mart, except without the intention of buying anything for her Pokemon. Instead, she got some new clothing-- blue shorts and a blue shirt, and matching blue boots; that outfit looked similar to the one that she had been wearing a few days ago. Heading to the Pokemon Center and quickly changing, Nina headed northwards towards the bridge, Serena in her arms, and Anna, Raimundo, and Whitney at her sides. She could make out five figures on the bridge, all lined up; one other figure was a little bit farther away than the others. He, Nina surmised, was the one who gave out the nugget after the others were defeated.

A girl that was a little younger than Nina approached the group when they stepped onto the bridge. "Stop!" she said. "You can go no farther unless you can defeat all five of us trainers on this bridge!" Nina rolled her eyes and chuckled. "That's why I'm here, genius.," she said, a tint of sarcasm in her voice. "What, did you think I was just coming up here for my health? Hah! Not hardly!" The girl stared at Nina with a look of increduosity on her face. "EXCUSE you?!" she hollered. "This bridge challenge was originally meant to not be of a very difficult level, and was initially constructed as a meager challenge for trainers... But I think we'll toughen things up just for you!" She looked over her shoulder. "Hay Bobby! Get your butt down here!"

A tall and moderately gangly, unattractive boy who looked a little younger than the girl approached her. "Hay Ricki! What's the idea-- we're supposed to battle individually, remember?" The girl scoffed. "Uhm, not today. This little twit decided she wants to be rude to me, so I'm gonna make things tougher for her! Get your Pokeballs; we're teaming up!"

Kilik groaned and jumped back with Portabello. His foot caught on the small step leading from the courtyard into the hallway and he fell backwards onto his rear end. "Oww..." he whispered, standing up slowly.

Koga fell to his knees, his hand shaking when he held up Muk's Pokeball. He recalled his Pokemon, watching it wobble back and forth before it was engulfed in red light. The Gym Leader stood back up, brushing his clothes off. He stared at the Steelix and scowled. Exactly the reason I hate Steel Pokemon...they are my greatest downfall. Koga turned his back on Mike, taking his Pokeballs to the healing unit in the courtyard. As they healed, Koga turned back to Mike and approached him, holding out his hand with the same three prizes that he had presented to Kasiya: the money, the TM, and the Soul Badge. "You were very skilled with your Pokemon, Mike. Take these with pride. And..." he placed a hand on his shoulder and leaned it slightly, "Make sure that your friends don't break anything." He smiled and turned his back again, walking towards the waterfall, and disappearing behind the mist.

Linalee gave a sheepish grin and waved with the hand she wasn't propping herself up with. She heard a little of Dante's conversation about his hair and pointed to it mimicking crying at his loss. She then waved at his cute Duskull trying not to interupt too much.

Mike accepted his prize with a respectful bow, Portabello and Titanium following suit. "Thank you for the battle Master Koga." He said humbly, his heart slowing down. "My Pokemon and I truly appreciate the challenge. The boy recalled Titanium, and walked over to Kilik. "Your father..." He started. "He's a fossil Pokemon expert am I right?"

Kilik began to clap slowly when he noticed Mike walking towards him. He paused and listened to his question. "Yeah. What about him?" he replied. It wasn't every day that one of his friends would ask about his father. Kilik motioned for Mike to follow him as he started to make his leave of the Fuschia City Gym, pleased with seeing Master Koga again, even if no words were exchanged between them. "Why the sudden interest?"
