Perhaps...perhaps...

He said, leaning back on his rock finishing off the last of his sweet bread, and letting the now empty shadow canteen swirl away in a rush of black. There wasnt much else to say on that.

Well, I guess its time to get moving. Time's a wasting.

Ryugi grinned and stood up. He brushed himself off and got ready to head out.

Indeed!

Maximos stood up promptly, adjusting his clothes and pulling out wrinkles here and there. Ryugi might even notice two cracks popping from the old Shadow's spine as he stood up. Maximos just sort of chuckled to himself.

Time most certainly is...

And he would follow Ryugi, all smiles and grins. It would take a few moments before he decided to ask the question. It was somewhat morbid and melancholy.

Ryugi...you've lived a long time....lifetimes.

He looked left to right around himself.

Beside this place, and these people, I doubt anything else really lasts. I've been here less than a decade, but in centuries I'm sure Gaia has changed thousands of times. People, places, mortal friends fall by the wayside as days pass by you like seconds...like sands in an hour glass.

Maximos smiled faintly.

I dont see how you do it. How can your heart stand to form a connection, an attachment to anyone, or anything when you only know you will have to watch it die?
PostPosted: Sun Nov 04, 2007 10:45 pm

Ryugi stopped and looked back at his friend.

Max, its a known fact that everyone dies. Friends, loved ones, pets, but does that mean it isn't worth having them simply to avoid the heartache from their eventual loss? I may have lived several human lifetimes, but I wouldn't trade the experiences or the relationships I've had with my friends or loved ones for anything.

Oddly enough, it was a short answer for something that any other person might take a long time to describe. Ryugi would look Max in the eye as he spoke, and then, when he finished, he turn and continue walking.

Now lets get a move on! We don't want to miss out on all the stuff The City has to offer!

A grin, and off he went.

He couldnt grasp it. Maybe because Maximos truly couldnt fathom eternity. Maybe it was because his heart by its many pains and aches had become too small, old, burned, scarred...

The details didnt matter.

Maybe he would understand later in life. This could just be a lesson that Ryugi had to teach him. But not right now, right now they had a city to see. Maximos knocked the dust off his boots and kept right on walking. He could almost feel it. Swords, spells, foods, drinks, a real live city!

Maximos experienced many a nostalgic memory of Ariak the largest city in all of Aria! He remembered being led by his fathers hand down cobblestone paths into rolling markets. The memory ended just before it rolled into the scene of him dragging a blood drenched sword across cobblestone paths, slicing a bloody swatch as he tore apart the marketplace as The Destroyer.

All in all, it meant that while lost down memory lane Maximos may have seemed a tad bit more quiet than normal. More lost in space, but he would keep a close pace.

And time would pass. It wouldn't take long before the pair would come over the crest of a hill, the City of Elders in all of its white stone and golden glory. The Hall of Elders, the center of the Angaran Government stood higher and taller than the other smaller structures. The building was white and stood well over 200 feet tall. It was almost square-like, almost like a fort at the top, but along the sides were hanging bright blue banners with the gold symbol of a dragon's claw. This was the Adamant's Claw, the symbol of Angara. More extravagant details of the city couldn't yet be made out from this distance, but the travelers had arrived.

Wow...

Maximos said with the brightest smile like a child stepping out of a car into the parking lot of his favorite amusement park. He could see the rides, they all looked like so much fun. Maximos nearly broke off into a sprint straight for the city but controlled himself as best he could, staying beside Ryugi.

There were so many beautiful buildings, so many area's that simply bled the remnants of old and powerful magics. And some places, so very crowded they blossomed a plethora of emotions and raging, gigantic aura's. Not only was there the prospect of seeing dragon civilization at its finest, up close and personal but there was the prospect of shopping!

Scrolls! Swords! Tomes! And he wanted to purchase a small sample of that magical metal Ryugi forged his armor out of. And the conversations! Dragons were on of the oldest magic using races! They sort of magics they had access too...well needless to say, the next few steps couldnt come fast eough.

Wow indeed. Welcome to the City of Elders, Capital of Angara.

Ryugi grinned, and started to walk down the hill towards the massive city, and its front gates. Even the plains surrounding the city were a hub of activity. Traveling traders could be seen setting up their tents and their shops to sell their wares. Children were playing around the tents, just being carefree as their mothers shouted at them to behave.

On the far side of the gates, several soldiers in white and blue uniforms practiced drills and training exercises. These were members of the Ceremonial Guard, the most elite and powerful of Angara's armed forces. They worked universally within the City of Elders to protect it from harm, only leaving a few at a time to go on missions for the High Council. Maximos might have been able to sense their strength from where he stood, and might be surprised to feel that they were even more powerful than Ryugi walking next to him!

Ryugi would continue walking however, and move down the hill and along the path leading to the city's gates.

Maximos was speechless.

It was like watching some flawless meal or treat be painstakingly prepared in front of you, piece, by piece, bit by bit. It was torture, each step was entirely too short, each stare, entirely too long. He couldnt wait! But he had too. He refused to simply rush forward into the city like a child. He had to control himself, at least until he breached the gates.

He could smell the various foods, brews, and scents from here.

He could feel the overbearing force of the ceremonial guards power. They seemed strong, very stronger. Though the concept of "stronger" Maximos reserved 'till he saw them in action. His face showed bliss, shock, and even a hint of childish innocent, a side of Maximos almost never revealed. The City of Elders...somehow he got the feeling alot would be happening here.

It wouldn't be long before the pair of travelers would reach the city gates, and were deep in the heart of the merchants. Ryugi would take a break before he entered the city and turn to Maximos.

Well, we've still got time to see the city. Do you want to look around the shops here for a bit?

Yes!

Maximos exclaimed, almost like a child that had held his breathe for entirely too long. He even slightly gasped afterwards as he took in his next breath. Ryugi had mentioned shopping and shopping was high on Maximos' list. He had already planned a few things in particular he wanted, and he would read them off with a childish grin.

I'd like a new sword! As many spells as I can afford, perhaps some education in Angaran Arcana and...I was hoping to get some of that!

A quick finger whipped out at Ryugi's chest. Or more specifically, his armor.

That metal is amazing, and I feel it may be the key to something I'm trying to construct. Regular steel simply wont do.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 09, 2007 11:03 pm

Well! You won't really be able to get much in the way of Angaran training here, but I'm sure there will be some good weapons and books for you around here. Dragonsteel you should be able to buy inside the city, so we'll have to wait until then to get that. I'll just follow you around and clarify if you need it. You shouldn't need a guide to shop for weapons.

Ryugi would chuckle as he finished. It was clear that his friend very much enjoyed the idea of getting new weapons. Ryugi couldn't blame him. Ryugi was like a kid in a candy store when it came to weapons as well. One more thing they had in common. Ryugi would then motion for Maximos to take the lead, and point him in the direction of what appeared to be the weapons area of the traders' shops.

Thats ok. Maybe I can find a tome or two.

He said, with a grin. And then, he was off. He couldnt help but want to run, but his adult side told him it was proper for him to walk, giving him a sort of accelerated skitter toward the nearest shop with any weapon made of Dragonsteel on display. Without delay he would approach the counter, a bright smile on his face, raw excitement on his tone.

Hello!
PostPosted: Sat Nov 10, 2007 1:15 pm

Greetings Sir! Could I perhaps interest you in some of our fine weaponry?

The shopkeep waved his hand over the numerous weapons at his counter. Knives, daggers, shortswords, longswords, broadswords, scimitars, katanas, throwing weapons, and all sorts of lovely shiny things were out on display for Maximos to look over. Of course, Ryugi was right behind him, and nearly drooling himself...

Could you ever!

Yes, there were many on display, different hilts, blade styles, and the like. And Maximos specifically looked for the sort made of that most excellent Dragonsteel. But what Maximos could not see, was what the shopkeeper saw. The shopkeeper knew each of these blades by function, by make. He likely constructed them himself, giving him intimate knowledge of their quality, their form, their nature.

I'd like a longsword, about this long, that can take a good amount of punishment...

Maximos even used his hands to describe how long he meant. And, he was honest, he had many super powered battles, and he needed a sword that could take the wear and tear. Fireballs, thunder-cracks, giant weapon slashes, rogue "godly" attacks...Maximos nervously scratched the back of his head.

...a very good amount of punishment.
