FLARES STILL BENEFIT NO ONE!
And the thing in the sky is light reflecting off of metal. Unlike Bungie's fail I'm addressing the issue of giant space ships battling just outside of orbit. Kilometer long ships miles above the planet would reflect so much light that they would appear in the sky as bright stars and depending on how close they are details could probably be made out.
That is what's in the sky.

Ok...So I just thought I'd let you guys know that I might not be able to post for 1-3 days. I'm completely swamped with make-up work at school so I'm going to have to focus on that, plus my mom isn't gonna
let me on the computer 'till I've finished all my homework so I shan't be able to
