The quails have been eating everyone's seedlings at the community garden, mine included. At least they only took the brand new ones, not the ones that have been growing 3 weeks.

I put out some olive oil to catch earwigs, hoping the internet is right on this one because those things freak me out! I saw probably 100 larvae in one square foot that may have been earwigs, so I'm getting started before they get too bad. They hid in my lettuces last year and it was very unpleasant.

Hey Check this indoor Composting machine for your kitchen! I was thinking about "What if I could have an indoor composter with a heating pad underneath?" Well dang Nature Mill already did that.

And it looks like a computer tower. With a cute little flower pot tray to catch the sifted compost.

That reminds me of the old saying about planting seeds:

One for the Rook
One for the Crow
One to let rot
and one to let grow.

Went to NYC's AIDS walk, 20% rain they said. It Rained the entire time, and hard enough to get water in everyone's shoes.

Also, I have a sudden interest in making a moss garden container. Any tips?

decided to collect some moss from garden and bring them indoors. I have three herb pots that are virtually useless because they have terrible drainage and are so small, but... for moss... maybe they'll like it.

Baked a cake.

Smells and tastes like I made it from 90% eggs.

Problem 1: halfed a recipe with 3 eggs in it, had to try to get "half" an egg. Pobably got more like 75% of an egg.

Problem 2: (found online) Too fresh of eggs taste eggier than older eggs. Our eggs came from chickens at my grandparents' house. Like, three days ago maybe. Preeetty fresh.

Problem 3: Come to think of it, they're pretty big eggs. Probably bigger eggs than are standard. Maybe we could have just used one.

Problem 4: I figured out I can make delicious caramel icing in about five minutes, tops. With just margarine, brown sugar, and icing sugar.
This knowledge is very dangerous! xd

Been busy with work and school. The owner of the building I work at came up as a surprise visit today. All went well.

A guy gave me a bunch of stuff to find a home for it/give it to the thrift shop. Just random stuff, one which was a sewing machine. He said he couldn't find the pedal, but the machine is new enough that I felt confident that I could find a replacement, so I took the machine. He emails me today saying he found the pedal and I could have it for $50. The nerve to ask for money for a part of something you gave away for free. I told him that I don't want the machine so he can have it back. We'll see how this goes. It's a 90's Singer that has a zig zag stitch. It'd be nice to have a machine that does zig zag, even if it's white and a Singer, but I'm certainly not paying him any money for it.

Edit: Ha, so I'm getting the pedal and the machine for free.

I finally got my flowers into the ground and I must say they're looking nice. I'll post pictures soon but knowing me that'll be in like a month. I also just got all my grades in school a B+ or higher, i'm pretty proud of myself. Just bought a new really nice John Deere lawn mower that goes for a couple hundred off my neighbor who is moving for $60.

Sweet! I bought flowers this weekend for my planter boxes. :3

Congratulations on your grades!

I dropped some stuff off at the thrift store here and by means of habit, poked my head in to see what was there. Lo and behold, they had not one, not two, but THREE sewing machines. crying crying crying Two for $15 (Piedmont & Kenmore) and one for $50 (International). Two were straight stitch and one had twelve stitches. I couldn't help myself and got the 12 stitch one for $15.

The bobbin tension needs to be loosened, but it works really really well. The stitches are so beautiful and it's so neat to watch the needle go back and forth to make them. It has a serge stitch and a button hole stitch. It was made '1975-77 and is a complete doll.

!!! I forgot about earwigs! When I was back east, they would devour my dahlias. I had a whole moat system set up and everything. I went out one night and there was a blanket of them all over the wall and pots, I screamed in frustration and brought out the hose. emotion_donotwant

Good luck on your battle! heart
