Though Eden didn't know it, her words drove deep into Ceon. It felt like Layna was leaving him for Razu all over again, and he hated it.

And if I hadn't gotten pregnant I wouldn't have to be a lycan in the first place and you probably would have been content with leaving that as a one night stand! We were both drunk!"

Ceon was shivering nowm trying to hold back tears that began to breach his tear ducts.

I fail to see your logic at all, help me understand if there's something I'm mis-" Meredith noticed that he was beginning to shake and that he was holding back tears and that was when it shattered her resolve. Yeah, she knew that she hadn't given him a chance and she honestly regretted it but she was happy with Veroen minus him leaving way too often.
Eden gently prodded Ceon to sit down, silent all the while, only using her hands to talk by gently exterting pressure on his shoulders. Once he sat down she did as well, right beside him and tried to collect her thoughts. She then gave him a huge hug as she sat beside him. "Don't be sad over me, over this. I didn't give up on you, circumstances brought V to me, it's different. Had Veroen and I just ended up friends I would have given you another chance. But you need to accept that for now things aren't going to change between us. Please don't cry, though, I don't want you to cry over this or be sad. You're immortal, too, you know, you have plenty of time to find someone else." She gave him another huge squeeze, not realizing her own strength and then let go of him to look him in the eyes with a hesitant smirk.

"I didn't mean it...I just wanted you so badly, Eden. I couldn't control myself.." Ceon sat down quiety as Eden tried to cam him down. "I don't even think he loves you. Vampires don't know love, how could they? They have no hearts...If he loved you, he would have followed you into the sewer when you found me, he wouldn't have disappeared when Daiguren tried to take me, and he would have been here to protect you from me..."

"Hearts are organs that pump blood, you don't need an organ in order to love someone. You need your spirit to love someone and vampires' spirits stay with them just as lycans' spirits stay with them once they are turned. There is no difference. One turns cold, the other turns warm. And I think you're wrong. Veroen does too love me and you would know if you'd seen how horrified he was with himself when he'd almost drained me. He refused to come anywhere near me other than to give me something to eat. And unfortunately he disappears without warning a lot but I believe he'll come back, he always does. And why does he need to protect me from you? What exactly are you going to do to me?"

"And what happens if he disappears and something bad happens to you or the kids? Who's going to be there you then? You might not know cause you could be dead! I don't want anything bad to happen to you, and going with that guy sure as hell won't increase you or the kids' cances of surviving."

"Nothing bad's going to happen and if something bad does happen then I'll just have to make sure the kids stay safe. I don't go with him, I stay here and wait for him to come back, praying that something horrible hasn't happened to him while he was away. I'm not going to allow anything bad to happen to me, I have kids that have yet to be born so I can't do much of anything on the extreme side of things. I'm not even out hunting anymore and I'm the friggin' stand-in hunter leader at the moment because no one else has enough experience!"

Ceon hung his head low and stared directly at the floor. "And if something happens to you, there will be nobody there to protect the kids.....What do you think God would want you to do, go with the one who gave you children and a new chance at life, or just some guy you fell for by chance?"

"You'll still be here will you not? I want my kids to know who their real father is, I don't want to live telling them a lie, that a vampire is their father. Unless of course you don't want to have anything to do with them ... As for what I think God wants, he would tell me to follow my heart, which is what I'm trying to do. You're making it pretty damned difficult, though. And Veroen isn't just some guy. He has been there for me through all of this even before we knew we loved eachother he protected me. Do you expect me to just abandon him after what I've put him through, what he's been through?"

"I don't expect you to be a ******** nanny and live with us but don't you want the kids to come over and visit you? Don't you want them to be able to put a face to the man that is their father or do you want them to make their own images instead and dream of you as opposed to actually knowing you? And yeah, they would wonder and I would tell them truthfully about it so there would be no issue there. And no he isn't, he cares, it is more than guilt that's brought him and I together, a hell of a lot more than guilt. We wouldn't have gotten this far on guilt and if it is because of guilt that must mean he cares, then."

Upon this comment Eden looked down at the floor and held back tears at the thought of her own children leaving her because she'd chosen to follow her heart. She then looked up, though, with a firm resolve though it wasn't fiery as her resolve often was, it was more calm and wise. "If my children feel that strongly that they cannot bear to be with a man who will love them as if they were his own then I know that they have a loving father which they can live with. I'm certain you'd take care of them if it came down to that." She looked up and smiled sadly at him, a single tear rolling down her cheek though she was hasty to wipe it away.
