Ash Rail Music stores carry a lot of junk that is completely useless, or possibly even bad for your instrument. You know those big fluffy "pad savers" for saxophones? They actually trap the moisture against the pads. Music stores still carry them. Why? Because they know people will buy them. I remember joking around with my director about getting a sax harness for my bari. Eventually he thought I was serious and asked me what size he should get for me. My friend shouts out from across the room, "What's your bra size?" The fact is that the music store will often carry whatever they think will sell. If someone sees a strap or a harness, they could very well think they need them. If they think they need them, then they'll probably buy them. If they buy them, then the store makes money. >_> I resent that padsaver remark. I have them in both of my pro horns, because they do infact save pads.... lmao.

They do, in fact trap dirt and moisture against your pads longer than just letting them air dry after swabbing through. When I finish practicing at home, I swab out the neck and body with pull-throughs like normal, then I use the pad saver to swab out any moisture the pull through missed.
You don't leave them in your horns, do you? That just keeps the moisture you collect right there with your pads.

I like sam ash a bit better--for its cheaper there and they have music... though now i'm considering making trips to RDG woodwinds.inc at L.A...they had all these books and stuff ::wasn't able to look at the books...teacher came D=< :: and wonderful mouth pieces and things that aren't just made for money... though that would be annoying for my parents to take me...so i don't know gonk in conclusion, most music stores suck =.O

I try to time it right, so I can go buy a box for my satb saxs (not bass, but bari) and my clarinet.
I think that's why the guys at the store recognize me.

Same here kinda, but I always have a spare box, and I rotate them well enough to kepe track of that. I also got Fibracell for both kinds of my saxes just in case, though.

I should buy fibracells for summer practice. With this much time to practice, I can wear down even the best cane reeds I have in a day or two.
I'll look into that tomorrow.
My teacher just stepped up my homework for my last lesson of the year. I have to learn three, preferably four, licks this week.

Chocovash3 Silent Curse Chocovash3 Silent Curse Hey I'm looking for a new clariente what are your opions on good but affortable clarientes How affordable (price wise) and you say new clarinet, so do you have one already? If so, what is it? The Buffet E-11 is a good choice, but it retails at about $700. Also, does it matter if it's plastic or wood? Are you goign to march with it? What grade are you in? My last Clariente cost somewhere between 1600 and 1000. It doesn't matter if its plastic or word and yes i will have to march with it If you are upgrading, then check out the R-13 Greenline, it's wood, and only costs a little more than a regular R-13, but it will last you many many years of marching and concert. Cool I'll start lookin' for it thanks for your help
