In some ways you could say that made their use of Protoculture superior to all but the Invid. As they could Artificially make it, and didn't rely on seeds, they truly did have a Unlimited Supply of Protoculture. The Masters, and even the Invid, hadn't found a way to artificially make it. I only say the invid were superior due to how well they could use the energy.
