The elements are powerful things

'A brick wall? Really Nikky?' Kyuubi thought to himself. He shot fire at it then immediately shot water at it as well. Softening the brick by doing this multiple times he used his earth power to create an opening it. He smiled, but it soon vanished as she noticed the other walls behind it. Glad he didn't have to burn his way through these he simply walked around a couple of them, each time expecting to find Nikky. He held his hands at the ready to use his power to defend in case she was ready to attack.

He thought about her power for a second. If she wanted to she could easily create anything that could nullify a certain element. However, if she used something even more earthy than brick, then he could just as easily move it out of the way. He kept looking for Nikky, wondering what she would have in store next in her imagination.

Nikky didn't care if Kyubbi broke through that first wall. It was a distraction anyways. She heard the wall crumble apart as he worked with the elements to get rid of it. She figured he had gotten through once she stopped hearing the sounds of water and roaring of fire. Now, she was tensing up in her little hiding spot. The lack of large noise meant he was coming to find her. She listened carefully for any noise to indicate his approach.

Wait, there was an easier way. She willed the first large brick wall completely gone. It was no longer needed. Then, she brought something else into being. Well, many something elses. Nikky made the entire floor covered with bubblewrap. Therefore, any step Kyubbi took would make noise. To be careful, she made the small area around her feet void of the noisy flooring. Surely he was suprised by the sudden change in decor, but she knew Kyubbi was smart enough to try and find a way around it.

Nikky thought on his powers. Elements. Bubblewrap was made of plastic. Not of earth, really, or fire, or water. The only thing he could use with it was the air. What would he do? Pop all the bubbles at once? She'd have to wait and see. Before, she wouldn't be able to stand waiting, she'd rush into fighting. Now, she didn't mind. It gave her time to think of more strategies. Wow, Nikky was really beginning to love losing her voice.

Kyuubi suddenly heard the sound of a pop under his feet. He made a small noise in surprise but stopped himself from yelling. This was interesting. He took a step and unsurprisingly it popped. He thought about this for a moment. If there was bubble wrap everywhere, then he couldn't go anywhere without being heard. He could melt the plastic but that would just made a sticky mess he could get stuck in. Getting it wet wouldn't work. There wasn't much earth he could use. Air was his only option. He never tried to before but he wanted to see if he could lift himself off the floor with it.

Concentrating hard, he slowly lifted himself off the ground. It was difficult not to send himself flying into the ceiling. He never really used his wind power so subtly. He looked at around him. There was only about an inch from his feet to the ground. He panted a little. He slowly pushed himself in one direction and popped the bubble wrap in the other. He needed to find Nikky. If he could surprise her then everything should go away. He smiled at the thought of surprising her enough to do that. He needed to think of a way to do that. He kept popping bubbles in the opposite direction. He made them subtle pops to make her think he was trying to be quiet with the bubble wrap.

Emilia Groves sat in her dorm, attempting to ignore the world around her. Everything was wrong. She shouldn't have come here. It was wrong. It was all so wrong. Here they accepted powers like it was okay. Like it was acceptable, something to train and use to benefit yourself. It was filthy. The students here were disgusting for it. As if she wasn't ban enough for being contaminated by her unnatural powers, they actually used their powers.

She shuddered and stood up. She couldn't stand it alone anymore, just thinking about everything that was wrong with this place. Everything that was wrong with these students. It made her sick, but maybe if she was with them it would be better then just thinking about them.

She left her dorm and went to find someone. Maybe she'd even find someone who understood, or at least didn't speak about their powers around her. Someone who had enough dignity to pretend to be normal. She hoped there was at least one of those in this godforsaken place for the damned.

Nikky started hearing subtle pops coming in her direction. She froze as they approached, but when she saw some bubbles pop on their own, she realized what he had done. Well, at least some of what he had done. The bubble wrap was now gone, and she morphed the brick walls into one way mirrors. Now she could see him, but he couldn't see her.

Ah, she could see now, safely. He was hovering off the ground. Figured. She knew he'd find away to avoid that bubble wrap. Hmmmm, what should she do now? Ha! A maze. That should be tricky enough. She made all of her illusions disappear now. She gave him a look like "Flying! That's not fair!" Half teasing, half serious. Seeing as she couldn't talk, he'd have to guess on what her look meant. She smirked a moment before constructing a labyrinth of concrete up to the ceiling. As soon as it was constructed, she darted off from her position, not wanting to be found easily.

She hoped the concrete would be strong enough to keep him a bay with his elemental powers, but whether they were or not, she wouldn't know. The bell rang. Aww! It ruined the fun. Apparently they had been dueling much longer than she thought they were. She slowly brought the walls down, and walked over to her stuff. Kyubbi was a really good opponet. Too bad they probably wouldn't get a next go around for awhile.

Careful what you’re feeling on the inside
You should try to remember
The good times and the high life
Are you feeling alright?

. Ian had found his first class at Genius easily enough, having had a map in hand. The teacher hardly acknowledged him, which was fine in his books. The less of a commotion over him, the better. He really wasn't up to explaining why he had transfered in the middle of a semester. It's not that he didn't want to talk about Millie. It would just be a really long explanation. So, to help keep it that way, he made sure the mood around him remained fairly unexcited due to his new presence.

It wasn't long before that first class was over. Mildly interesting, but he had learned some of the information before in AP classes back in high school. Since it had been awhile since he had last ate, Ian decided to go check out what the cafeteria had for lunch. If it was mildy appetising, he'd eat there. If not, he'd take a stroll to one of the restaurants he saw in town. However, before he could make it all the way to the cafeteria, he heard some shouting. The phrase 'new kid' was stated, so he figured it was him being addressed. He turned to look at the addressee. It was that one girl he had spotted earlier this morning before he headed to class. He raised an eyebrow at her and laughed slightly.

"Well, isn't that some greeting?" He commented. "My name is Ian." Ah, she blushed. Obviously she realized her mistake.

"Oh, um...sorry. My name is Brianne, Bri for short." She introduced herself, and he smiled at her in return. Odd, he got the embarassed feeling from her as she bit her lip.
"Ummm...what grade are you in?" Bri asked him. Easy enough of a question. "I'm a college freshman. However, since I just recently learned about this school, I have to take High School power classes 'til I can catch up. What about you?" He asked, curious tone.

"I'm also a college freshman, but I am one of only a select few who can call themselves Genius Legends." The girl radiated with pride as she said this. Genius Legend? He remembered reading something about that. They supposedly beat out all the rest and were experts in their powers. She could probably kick his behind in a second. Not like his power was that good for fighting anyways. Not one on one really.

Careful when you're feeling out of your mind
You should try to remember
The strong lines in the spotlight
Till you're feeling alright

At the mention of Harman, Mer’s heart pounded in her chest. She shrugged it off though, and focused on the remained of his long talk. There was one thing Lonan was good at, and that was talking. He continued on, inviting Meredith with him to the dance. At this, she smiled, and gave him a peck on the cheek. She would have loved to go with him! Though, a quick realization told her otherwise. It was Bri’s turn; they had to share.

“I would love to love, but you owe Bri a dance. I’ll steal you away for the after party. Oh, and speaking of party!”

She pulled out her phone and quickly dialed Joe’s number, inviting him and whoever else he was around to go to her dorm, at this very moment. Then, she grabbed her companion’s hand, and lead the way herself.

Once she walked in, she quickly pulled a small cooler out from under her bed. It was filled with all the supplies, well supply, alcohol, and lots of it. She wanted to get wasted, despite the early time. With Kai being back, she had no intention on dealing with her. So, she would blow classes aside, party with her friends, and once they were gone, drink by herself.

With this in mind, she clicked the play button on her stereo, and wrapped her arms seductively around Lonan. It was time to party.

Everyone’s a let down, it just deepens on how far down they’re willing to go.
In every circle of friends, there’s a whore; the one who flirts and does a little more.
But who’s to say, this is a social scene anyway?

“I thought so, I thought so,” Archie replied, fluffing his already overly fluffy curls. Did he even have a tie? Probably somewhere buried in his dresser. Or was that a handkerchief? Whatever. It would work, whatever it was. He’d have to get some pictures on his webcam before he headed out. He got a little excited about it until he thought about Cory, which promptly killed his mood. Damnit. Why did he only have to have feelings when it came to his posse? Had it been anyone else Archie would have been all ‘poo poo on you, not my fault you’re being an emo douche’ but because it was Cory, one-half of his best friends… maybe he should have handled the situation differently. He sighed vaguely, tucking hair behind his ear. Ah well. What was done was done. No use in crying over spilt milk.

Acting unusually vulnerable, which he would only do in front of his friends, Archimedes rested his head on Cadence’s shoulder and blinked a bunch of times. This was about as much significant emotion as his friends ever saw of him, and not very often at that. He’d always sort of wondered why he’d made friends. They could never replace the ones he’d had before the Accident, but the idea of having someone to count on was… comforting, in a way. Not that he placed full and complete trust into either Cadence or Cory, but much more so than he’d shown anyone in the past; more than he’d shown since the Accident. He’d never even told his friends about what had happened. Archie didn’t like to think about it.

He had dreams about them sometimes — about his family, mostly. He’d relive an old memory in his sleep, or ones that didn’t even exist but were still happy. He’d have ones where he saw them being hurt, or worse, being indifferent towards his nonexistence; because that’s what he was: Nonexistent. To them, anyways. He wondered if his mom got pregnant again, or if they adopted, or whatever. He wondered if his old friends found another spaz to take his place as the ringleader. Archimedes would wake up in the middle of the night sometimes after one of his dreams and he’d miss them terribly. Whenever he was sick, he wished he could be pathetic in bed and call for his momma. When he wanted to go to the arcade, he’d wish it was his dad he was competing in DDR with instead of Cory. Archimedes would accomplish something in his power training and he’d want to tell his parents so they’d be proud of him, but… well, that would never happen.

Archimedes only thought these thoughts when he was alone, and it surprised himself that his mind was wandering into this territory in public, around Cadence. He sure didn’t want her to see him as a weakling and start asking questions. As if it hadn’t even happened, Archimedes shoved those thoughts into the recesses of his depression where they belonged. He didn’t need to go there anyways. It distracted from the now.

“Hmmm,” he responded when Cadence asked if there was anything else he’d like to do. He should be in class, of course. But teachers never came out here. He wasn’t sure they even knew this little area existed, or if they cared. “You wanna get a milkshake or something?” he ended up asking, shrugging. “Or do you need to start getting ready for le partay?” he teased, flipping his friend’s hair about. When he thought about it, he pulled out his cell phone to check the time. “Orrrrr we could spy on the kids training. That’s going on right about now, I think.”

Archimedes was surprised that he hadn’t had to spar with anyone yet, and he was pretty glad for it. It was embarrassing when he used up all his power reserves in like, ten minutes and passed out from sugar shock. He was sure he could whup some a** with his powers, but didn’t want to take a chance on running out of steam before he could do so and opening himself up for attack due to his weakness. He hadn’t quite got a hang on his power reserves yet, and how to not burn them out so quickly. If he was going to like, rule the world and stuff, he sort of needed that skill. His one goal in school was to one day defeat a Genius Legend, to knock them from their podium and take it for himself. Then he would be one step closer to his goal — one step closer to having power.

“What time is the after party, anyway?” he asked, realizing now that he had no idea. Surely the after party would be, well, after the party. But that wasn’t exactly specific.

He had a vision of him, Cadence, and Cory causing subtle mayhem at the party: Archimedes would mess with the lights and music, Cadence would go invisible and screw with people’s stuff, Cory would spike the punch with X-LAX. It would be hilarious and amazing, and they would all leave early and go laugh about it at IHOP or something over milkshakes and French fries. But that wouldn’t happen because Cory was in a Mood. Archimedes bit his lip and nudged Cadence’s head with his own. “Hey, you don’t think…” ‘I was too much of a d**k to Cory, do you?’ he wanted to finish, but he realized the image of him that gave off. Unsure, weak, doubting, self-conscious. Failure. Archimedes straightened up and shook his head as if to shake the feelings off. “Never mind, I don’t know what I was gonna say,” he lied, stretching. Man, what was wrong with him? He’d never given off this much humanity before. It was a little disconcerting. He needed a good mental scrub and a mental slap.

Awaiting for Cadence’s answers, Archimedes reclined onto his back and dipped a stick into the river, not wanting to get himself wet due to his electric nature, but wanting something to occupy his hands with. It somehow made him feel stronger if he ignored his emotions. That’s what Vulcans did, after all. And they were the strongest aliens in the galaxy. Yeah, that’s right. Just gotta be strong.

Cadence Saline IvieUser Image

Cadence laughed as he fluffed his curls. She hoped he would act on that statement. Tie around his head. She'd make sure she got a picture of that. Even if she had to go all sneaky mode on him. The whole event could be something fun to remember, and to make their mark. However, weight on her shoulder distracted her train of thought.

Archie had laid his head on her shoulder, not a very common thing. Something must be bugging him, and he was thinking about it. While he rested his head, she wrapped an arm around his waist in a kind of half-hug. After all, Archie and Cory were the two people she was closest to at this school. Since her parents had made her whole power thing out as a curse, they didn't trust her, which cause there to be a mistrust issue in her life. Yes, Cadence could be caring, but when it came down to it, she always had to wonder if she could trust those around her.

To be honest, that might have been why she didn't disclose the fact that some creepo weird dude threatened her since she refused to go to the dance with him. That was probably why she didn't tell her two best friends. Plus, with the mood Cory was in, he probably wouldn't have listened. Two, she didn't feel like she should worry them with her personal problems, especially since it wasn't directed at either one of them.

That's where her mind wandered as they both kept quiet. Funny how your mind did things like that to you. That's why Cadence hated the silence of everyday life. Silence usually presented itself before something horrible. Like the calm before the storm. It was best to keep those thoughts at bay with some tune or talking about something else.

Thankfully, that's when Archimedes broke that silence into pieces. "Get ready for the party? That's not 'til tomorrow...Silly..." She said, rolling her eyes playfully. She thought on the other two suggestions. Hmmm. They were both good. At the moment, only one was calling to her. "I say....MILKSHAKES!" She decided, happily. "Then we can sing the Milkshake song..." She added, remembering she used to have it ages ago, but, that particular cd which held said song was stolen. Figured, right? .

The after party? Well, Cadence didn't have an exact time. "I don't know, and quite frankly, I think it really starts when we get there anyways...don't you think?" Made enough sense to her, that's when all the fun would begin. After giving him that answer, he kinda drifted off. Then, almost in the same amount of time, he came back to reality. Archie had begun to ask her something, but trailed off after nudging her head with his. Obviously he didn't want to finish that question.

"Sure ya don't...." She stated while he stretched. "...but, I won't press it...your business to keep, not mine." Cadence reassured as she watched him play with the twig in the water. Sometimes people had too much going on in their minds, she knew that plenty well enough. She stood up with a stretch before extending her hand to Archie. "Comeon....Let's go get us those milkshakes.." Cadence stated with a smile. Maybe by the time they got back, Cory'd be out of his self-pity mood.

They will not force us

~o Lonan Alexander Hale o~

User Image

As always when put in these situations with Mer, Lonan began the tedious work of distilling the bane of the college party goer (aka booze) so that the alcohol content was minuscule but would still taste like liquor. In teens who believed that being drunk meant acting a certain way, this would give them the impression of being wasted without actually being that way. Placebos were a dirty trick, but if it meant saving a few more of his friend's brain and liver cells, he was willing to face the consequences should she find out. As part of his brain worked on that, the rest of him was focused on Mer, trying to find some sort of entrance that he could get his foot in and then find out what was really up.

He studied her face. Openly, she was being playful and reckless. It was a game to her to make Lonan feel uncomfortable with her advances but he had long since gotten over that. She was a goddess on the dance floor, she would give any celebrity a run for their money in a music video. It was almost as if she were channeling herself into the dance. It started out seductive and flaunting but Lonan noticed a change. She looked the same, her dancing not diminished in the slightest. It was her eyes. As she flowed from one move to the next, her eyes dimmed. He knew this was impossible, as someone who understood the world on a level most could not even fathom, there was no possible way that her eyes could have dimmed without a change in the lighting. And yet, when he looked into her beautiful, smiling face, he saw what she was hiding in her eyes. Pain. Sorrow. Regret... Yes, regret most of all.

The depth of her deception hit him very hard. How could he not have seen it before? The overwhelming sense of depression, of drowning in your own self-worthlessness. Had he not seen it enough? Truly? Could he not see his friend going through the same pain that he had gone through? No, of course he hadn't. She was invincible. She had saved him from his self-inflicted hell. How could she possibly be going through the same thing?
Because she's not better than you like you've convinced yourself these long months. She's human, just like you were.. He shivered at the thought, as if to rid himself of the history behind it. This wasn't about him; she was not going to go down the path he had almost tread. He would not lose her like she had almost lost him. He was going to fight her to get his friend back. She would not her from him. She would NOT give up on herself. He wouldn't let her. If she won this, he would lose himself as well and he'd promised someone very dear to him that he would never do that again. The situation had a certain tragic irony. Who knew that things would have turned around so quickly? He turned from her and glanced out the window into the world freed from such thoughts. He wished he was not locked behind window blind bars..

Ringggg. Joseph looked down at his phone, and to his delight, Meredith was calling. It was just the girl he wanted to see. “Hey, party, my dorm, now.”

“I’ll be there.”
He then hung up, and signaled for the two girls to follow him. He knew exactly how he would pass the time. It only took a few moments for them to reach Meredith’s dorm, and when he got there, they could hear the music outside the door. With a big smile, he walked in.

A quick observation showed it was the same ol’ same ol’ they did all the other times. The alcohol chest was already open, music was up, and all of that good stuff. However, attendance was fairly down. Meredith, Joseph, Lonan, and Juliette were the only partiers, which was nothing like a typical party. She partied in big numbers, so there was some help needed with that.

Joseph quickly pulled out his phone and texted Nikky, inviting her and whomever she was with to head towards Meredith’s dorm. He also sent a text to Mitsukai, Diana, and the rest of the gang. It was just about lunchtime, so why not spend lunch in here? He’d just have to get some pizza, which, with a little bit of dialing, it was already on the way.

Once done, Meredith signaled for him to come over. He thought faintly what could have caused the sudden party, then realized that more than likely, it was a celebration. Mitsukai was back, and Mer celebrated everything with alcohol. She looked a little upset, though she hide it well enough that Joseph thought nothing of it, so he came over and danced.

Soon her attention shifted from Lonan, than to him, and then she shifted her attention again. Juliette came and danced with Joseph to even it out, and everyone was dancing. It was fun, invigorating, but he wanted Nikky there. Dancing with her was more enjoyable than all of the others combined. There was some sort of bond he couldn’t quite explain when they were together, something he enjoyed quite a bit. Seeing her move, and looking into her beautiful eyes, that’s what he wanted to be doing.

(Thats a PHONE ring, not a bell ring.)

Nikky had finished gathering her things from the practice room and began heading down the hall. About half the way to the cafeteria, her phone vibrated in her pocket. She pulled out the phone and pushed the necessary buttons to get to the text she had recieved. It was from Joe. Ah, a party in Meredith's dorm. Eh, sounded like fun, but no alcohol for her this time. Last time she drank, she confessed to Joe that she liked him, and that didn't get her anywhere. Well, at least she was mute right now. No spilling her soul to anyone.

She turned around and headed towards the dorms. Nikky made a detour into her room. She dumped her school bag on her bed, not needing it for a while, seeing as it was almost lunch. Then, she went into the bathroom to check up on her looks. Oh, dang. Her hair was a bit messed up due to sparring, and she had gotten a bit dirty. She threw off her old shirt and pulled on a new one, same with her jeans. Her tennis shoes were replaced with boots, and her hair was let down, a tousled mess. A bit of an improvement from five minutes ago, if she did say so herself.

With that, she grabbed her purse and walked down through the halls 'til she reached Meredith's dorm. She barely knocked on the door before it creaked open, almost on it's own. She looked around to see who was there. Well, not a lot of people yet. Mer, Lonan, and there was Juliette, who was dancing with Joe. To be quite honest, her heart sank a little when she spotted that scene, but a smile was plastered on her face.

It seemed logical. Joe was probably going to go to the dance with Juliette. After all, he had started spending a whole heck of a lot of time with the freshman ever since she started Genius. And here Nikky had been worried about L. Whatever, Joe could take whomever he pleased. .

Archie wasn’t sure, but it felt like something was bothering his friend. He was torn between wanting to ask and wondering if he wanted to know. He cared, sure, but he didn’t like having to keep others’ secrets, and that’s sort of what it felt like. A secret. Well, if Cadence felt the need to tell him, then he supposed she would. After all, Archie had a hell of a lot of things he wasn’t going to tell her, so he could respect her need to keep such things to herself. Everything would be okay, probably. And if Archie needed to kick some a**, then he’d do that too.

”Oh…” he said dumbly, trying to think of today’s date. He checked it on his phone and slapped himself in the forehead. The dance was tomorrow. Stupid, stupid, stupid. ”Sorry. My bad, dawg. He restored his phone and shrugged. ”I don’t know! Maybe you’ll take like, a day to get ready, since girls take forever anyway. Oh, I gotta do my haaaaairs, and fix my makeups five million times. These shoes, or these? But they don’t match my purse! I’ll have to change my entire outfit! Uhhhhnnn!” he mimicked, talking in an obnoxious falsetto and waving his hands around in a mockery of how he assumed girly girls flapped about when they got in a tizzy over stupid stuff. Girls were weird. Well, Cadence was cool, and honestly, Archie sort of saw her as ‘one of the guys’. But honestly, some girls were ridiculous with their dressing habits. His mother had a habit of getting dressed and wearing two different shoes, then standing in front of a mirror with one leg up to see which ones went best with her dress. It was so strange that it was almost fascinating to Archimedes as a child, but as a teenager he found it outrageously silly and kind of dumb. No one cared about what shoes you wore. Hell, he’d seen girls at school wear mullet dressed with combat boots. Fashion didn’t make sense to him sometimes. No, make that all the time.

Milkshakes it was, then! That was a relief, since Archie kind of really wanted a chocolate Oreo milkshake from Sonic. And a large order of tater tots. And maybe some onion rings and chicken strips. Yes, this sounded like a grand idea. ”My milkshake brangs all the boys to the yard, Cadence. If you were wondering.” Yeah, that sounded just as gay out loud as it did in his head. Whatever. Cadence wouldn’t care anyway. Though the image of drinking a milkshake and being swarmed by males was slightly amusing, and for a moment made Archie’s cheeks pinken. He wrote it off as a hormone fluctuation and nothing more. Nothing gay. Nope.

”Yeah, milkshakes sound super freakin’ awesome right about now. Onwards!” he cried epically, extending his arm forward and pointing dramatically. He got to his feet and dusted himself off before helping Cadence up. All these repressed secrets were weighing him down and he needed a little sugary pick-me-up to, well, pick his mood up. And maybe they could grease the ground around their table so the waiters in the roller skates would fall over and yeah, that would be freakin hilarious. He was feeling better already. ”And I’m like, they’re better than yours. Damn right, they’re better than yours…”

Rise up and take the power back, it's time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end, we have to
Unify and watch our flag ascend, so come on

Cadence rolled her eyes. He thought that all girls took that long to get ready? Please. "Sweetheart...It will only take me around an hour and a half to get ready...If I'm being nit picky...." She stated with a smirk. However, his impression of those frilly girls was quite hilarious. She couldn't help but laugh at that. Yes, Cadence could be indecisive about a lot of things, but that was why she already had her outfit for the dance picked out. She had to make herself stick to it. It was quite awesome, though. Not too girly, not too flashy, just right.

Actually, it wasn't really a formal-ish dress at all. She was going to wear boots, really dark pantyhose, and fingerless long gloves. It was definitely something she was looking forward to wearing. That, and she'd probably wear a cameo necklace and some hoop earrings. Her hair would be easy enough, she'd straighten that. Archie's voice brought her back to the present.

Yes! He knew the Milkshake song she had been talking about. Well, duh, most people did..but still! She laughed a little again at his statement, then she put on a straight face. "But of course it does, darling. Why would it not?" She was being quite serious in that statement. He was too cute for his own good. Any girl, or guy that was interested in him would probably snatch him up. She noticed his faint blush, but let the issue be.

However, she did store that thought in the back of her mind as Archie helped her get up. She loved his enthusiasm over going to go get some milkshakes. It made her smile. Basically, he was like the little brother she'd never have. "I could teach you..but I'd have to charge..!" She finished the lyric, nudging him lightly with her elbow. "Now, enough lolly-gagging around...let's get to my car and head off!" She said, grabbing his arm and leading him back out through the woods, picking up the donut box as she walked.

Before too long, they were in the student parking lot. Cadence had headed straight for her car. She let Archie go, and pulled out her keys from her pocket and unlocked the door. Once she hopped in, she started it up, closed the door, and buckled up. All she was waiting on was Archie.

Mitsukai Kanji

(Background, Mitsukai was at dinner. Then she left and went to therapy. I’m starting it with her already being in the office because it was long enough as is. Sorry the format sucks, but its dialogue driven, and I don’t think I can write it any other way. I actually wrote this awhile ago, and I think I wrote this when I was writing screen plays for school. As one could tell by the writing style.)

The day had passed by in what had seemed forever, yet here Mitsukai sat, in the chair of her new therapist, knowing it was now coming to a close.

“So, how was your day back.”

Mitsukai thought about that one. It was hard considering the day had been better than any other lately, but yet, she was still miserable.

“So-so.” Was the answer she chose, it was the best she had.

“Where do you want to start?”

The question made Mitsukai laugh, she hadn’t wanted to be here at all. However, there were many places to start, like, her sister’s death. Or, possibly at the beginning of it all, the morning she left for Kyuubi’s. Ah, when she was done, they’d mark her as traumatized, and off into the loony bin. That’s where people with her power ended up anyways, despite them claiming they could help her. She saw that numbers, there wasn’t much help she could get.

“I don’t know, you’re the expert.”

The man cracked a smile, and looked at his notebook. It probably contained notes from the nurse, and others who needed to put in their input. Only teachers though, the school wouldn’t dare get this out. It was funny how the school worked. Even if asking the students questions was the best way for a student to get help, they didn’t want anyone to know their student was going crazy. Or, well, was bound to go crazy.“How about the beginning.”

How predictable. Well, Mitsukai thought about the beginning. It was hard to determine, because it all looked like a giant blob of pain. It probably started with the letter she wrote to Thorne. Thus, she begun, carefully, but in a way sarcastic and bitter.“I was supposed to go and help Kyuubi, someone kidnapped a kid, ya know, from school.” She paused, and let that sink in. The man wasn’t surprised, he had known. Thus, Mitsukai was forced to continue, acting unfazed by the lack of response.

“I’ve always been there for him, I was the only one he could go to. God, he’s been through hell. I went though, and wrote a letter before I went, to Thorne.” She should have hid things, a part of her wanted to, but she knew better. If she was ever to be cured, she needed to open up, really open up. So, she swallowed, no particular reason, possibly as if she needed more air. The therapist was scribbling notes in his notebook.

“I wanted him to know that I cared, he hates himself, only Christ knows why… I think he thought I was dead, that’s what he screamed at me when I returned. I’m still mad at him, for leaving.” She paused, now feeling caught up in the story, and bitter. The next words were said quietly and directed to herself out of sorrow. “I needed him after I got back from Kyuubi’s. But, we’re over now. I suck too much for him to be spending time with me.”

The words were said with a bitter laugh, and she paused when she was chocked them out, only to swallow her ever growing need for air. Her eyes were slowly filling with tears. “But, onto my adventure with Kyuubi. We were supposed to save Vincent, and we did, well, he did. I was held hostage, freaking girl injected poison into me, poison. I, well, I….”

Memories were flooding back now.

The metal wrapped around Mitsukai’s arms were tight, and she needed to get them off. She had too. Considering she was barely conscious, it would be a daunting task. Thoughts of different maneuvers raced through her mind, and one by one she knew they wouldn’t do. However, her thoughts kept landing on one, which she wouldn’t have tried if she weren’t so desperate. Fire.

She hesitated slightly, and decided it was now or never. In a moment’s notice, her opposite could come charging in the room and knock her out with another shot of god knows what. Therefore, she willed fire on the metal clasping her hands, then applied pressure.

A searing pain spread from her wrist to the rest of her body, her eyes filled with tears as the pain increased. She could feel her skin melt away, past her nerves until the tingling stung of absence. Sadly, it took forever, and even the surrounding oxygen burned her. It all seemed hopeless, until… CRACK!

With a smile on her face, she pushed the metal away, and looked at her hands. The sight took away that smile. Around her wrist, and across her palms laid burned flesh and visible bones. The whole area stung like nothing she had experienced before. Sadly, it was her only chance of escape, so instead of thinking about her injuries, she focused on getting out. Her goal was to teleport and get home, but despite her efforts, nothing was happening. She had used all of the powers she took from Kyuubi. Looking around, she needed another way out, and figured it would be worth the risk to leave through the door. Worst comes to worst, they’d tie her up again. Therefore, she walked to the door, just as it opened.

Mitsukai stepped back quickly, holding her hands up in a protective stance. The intruder was, as to be expected, her opposite. She didn’t seem to be surprised by her captive being cuff less.

“You were always so smart.:

Mitsukai’s response was to throw a punch in her face, one that the opposite effortlessly dodged, it went on like that for awhile. She would throw a punch, while trying to dodge one that came flying at her. It was obvious she was the underdog in the fight, considering she was weak from the drugs in her system, along with the burns across her hands.

They had been going at it for a few minutes, her breathe now shortening and her body growing weak, until the opposite was now on top of her. With swiftness she couldn’t grasp, her competitor grabbed a knife and slashed her leg, Mitsukai in return let out a scream. She understood now this was worth far more than it was before, this wasn’t just to escape, it was to keep her life. Those thoughts filled her with adrenaline she didn’t know she had, and she quickly grabbed the knife from her competitor. Without missing a beat, she thrust the knife upward, stabbing the girl right in her throat, then pushed her off .

She paused for a moment, looking at the girl with her life spewing from her, then looked at her own self, seeing the blood on her arms. In anyone else’s mind, this would have been defense; in Mitsukai’s, it was murder.

With the last life the Opposite had, she gave her killer a smile. Mitsukai’s response was to make a portal, with the power she stole from the dead girl, and landed in the nurse’s office.

“Well, I killed her…”

While Mitsukai told the story, the man just wrote notes in his notebook. It was unnerving, but she kept going, knowing she had to tell the remainder. “After that, I was upset, feeling grief over the kill. I know, I’ve been told I shouldn’t feel guilty, that it was either me or her. But, I felt bad, sometimes, I still do. “

Her voice cracked, and she took a deep breath before continuing. The man looked up at her, his eyes for once leaving that darned notebook, signaling for her to go on.

“Well, I was already so sad, and I wanted someone, but it seemed as if no one understood. I felt alone. And, Thorne was gone, I just…”

The man already knew how she felt. It etched all over her features, possibly even seeped down to his own heart. She still didn’t understand it, and she hadn’t wanted to. She wanted to feel nothing, yet she did.“I just…I just…needed him.”

She finished, admitting her own downfall.

“Well, he came back; I know you heard about our fight, everyone did. It just made he so mad, him blaming me for leaving, when in all truth, he’s the one that left.”

Her mind briefly went to the fight, but she knew she couldn’t go there, she couldn’t imagine it. It tore at her heart. Therefore, she rushed through her next words, as if they would make things better for her. To her dismay, they landed right on top of another painful memory. “Not too long after, my Mom called, said Hana had cancer.”

Mitsukai paused then, letting the tears spill over. The man passed her a box of tissues and waited for her to continue. She was in a whole other world now.

The world had slowed down. Doctors were surrounding Mari’s bed, and the heart meter was going crazy. The sound blared in Mitsukai’s ears, but was nothing compared to the sudden flat noise, then even worse, the silence. “No…” She breathed, watching the doctors walk out defeated, heads down. To them, it was just another patient, nothing more. They had never known her. Just another failure. To Mitsukai, she was far more.

She went running into the room, and fell at the girl’s bedside. Running her hands through Hana’s hair, she pleaded that the girl would wake. Though, the slow decrease of body heat showed it was all over.

Mitsukai’s mind couldn’t help but to trail to what had happened only hours earlier.

---

“Mitsukai, I need to show you something.”

She walked into the room, looking at Hana with wide eyes. Earlier, she had been sitting outside, waiting for her to wake. Apparently, she was wide awake now, and had something to show, since she was holding her hand out, waiting for Mitsukai to grab it. She did, unsure if this was safe or not.

The memories instantly took Mitsukai to a far off place, somewhere Mitsukai hadn’t been for years, Japan.

“Mari.” Her father’s voice rang, sounding like bells, and bringing both feelings of remorse and happiness to Mitsukai. Her mother came over, and held his hand. The memory was in Mari’s perspective, and she could hear words whisper through her mother’s mind.

“My love, how are you today?”

It took awhile, but Mitsukai realized that her father had the same power as her, out of shock; she almost dropped Hana’s hand. Why did Hana have these memories?

As if to answer, Hana flashed to another memory where she was holding her dad’s hand, him teaching her to control her own powers. “You’re like me?” Mitsukai asked, stumped. Mari nodded yes.

Mari went onto show her that their Mother couldn’t handle Mitsukai once father died, since her powers revealed after his death, and there was no one to teach her. Mari was anti-powers, they were the reason Father died (he went insane, and crashed into a tree as a form of suicide). Mari didn’t want powers to be shown around the house and she abruptly closed those memories off – a trick she learned from father – in order to keep her daughter in the dark. Finally, Mitsukai couldn’t take it anymore, knowing everything was far too much, and she dropped Hana’s hand. She ran out in tears. Knowing no one else, she called Cory; he was always there for her.

--

It felt like forever when Cory came and pulled Mitsukai away. Her sister’s body had long since gone cold, and it felt stiff.

“Come on, time to go home…”

She knew the doctors needed to take care of the body, so with one last kiss on her sister’s head; she let Cory lead her out.
