"Oh gosh, I'm sorry!" Awen let her hand down with an embarassed smile. "I just thought you were my friend Richard, he always fishes here. Didn't mean to disturb you."

The girl looked the islander over slowly somewhat thankful her animal had been a more graceful one. But still she smiled cheerfully. "I'm Awen, it's nice to meet you."

It seems she'd missed meeting so many people, not only in her three months under but in her seclusion before hand. Awen had seen the duplex roster just recently so she didn't have to hazard a guess at how many people she hadn't met yet.

Bobby broke free of her blankness when the pole gave one last twitch. She pulled the string out of the water. Her worm was gone and the string chewed through. After a grunt and scowl, she set the fishing pole aside and turned to the newcomer.

"It's.... okay." she said slowly. Ignoring the manta's eyes as they took in her... changes, the woman smiled gently, "Likewise, and I'm Bobby. What are you doing... out here?" The pig looked around. It was obvious the girl needed water, so it made sense. But, she didn't quite know what to say.

So, when she got a little nervous she did one thing: eat. Pulling out a sandwich, Bobby 'nibbled' on it.

"I'm just out on one of my many swims. It's a good way to clear your head and think things over, you know?" She smiled as she frowned up at the broken string.

"Oh no, I made you loose your fish didn't I...?" She shook her head sadly. "Sorry about that."

Bobby's smile broadened, "No, not really... cannot swim anymore, I sink like a rock. Which is strange, for usually, ahh.... blubber makes you float." It was true. At least, she was sure the bigger one was with fat, the better you float.... she couldn't recall where she heard that.

Looking at the stricken face, Bobby waved her off with a hoof, "Don't worry about it. I was just fishing more for the activity, not the results. I already brought my food." She patted the basket affectionately.

"Are..you sure?" Awen said hesitantly and looked around at the water. "I'm sure I could catch a fish for you no problem if you wanted it." A broad smile caught on her lips she looked back up to the woman on the bank.

Awen had heard the tale of fat floats as well so she was surprised when she heard the pig woman couldn't. It made some sense that she couldn't swim, what with her hands being hooves that didn't seem to be very good at displacing water, she could hardly believe that the woman sunk. But she wouldn't comment, it may come off as rude or something.

Bobby chuckled low in her throat, "No, that's alright. That is sweet of you, though. I appreciate the thought."

Finishing off her sandwich, the pig licked the crumbs off her hooves. She reached over, dug in the dirt, and pulled out another worm to tie onto to the string. Plopping it in the water, she looked back at Awen. Always looking for gossip, and maybe some match-making, Bobby smiled with a twinkle in her eye, "So, who's Richard?" She had never met an Islander with that name.

Awen smiled and nodded as she watched the pig owman dig in the dirt for another worm. Really though that would be handy for a fisherman, and Awen bet, the woman could make a decent farmer--if the island allowed for such a thing, which it sadly did not.

"Richard?" Awen echoed and chuckled a little bit. "He's just an older islander that is looking to stirr up some trouble. Did you see the community message board in town? He set that up, and he's expressed interest in starting a newspaper, letter, thing, for the island." The girl shook her head slowly. "He's pretty interesting in his transformations too. I believe he's turning into a misplacer beast, it's this six legged cat with squid arms coming from it's shoulders. Kind of neat, I think it's from some old lore or Dungeons and Dragons or something like that. Sabin's idea, I'd imagine...." Bobby wanted gossip after all and Awen was one of the innocently chatty types.

Bobby took balanced the pole precariously in one hoof and used the other to pick at a stray piece of meat caught in her teeth that was starting to bug her. Her mind was still sharp, though, and she heard Awen.

When the manta ray finished, the pig frown slightly, taking the pole in both hooves once more. "Actually... all of that information is new to me. I haven't been active in the community." The news settled in. She was a little bitter about a newspaper... it would be nice to write again... heck, even typing would be welcome. Her hooves didn't even allow for that anymore.

"Displace beast?" Bobby mumbled. Now, that was something she had never heard about. Anything mythological or lore was not exactly in her mind of hobbies. "D and D? My son used to play...." the pig paused, as an image flashed of him smiling as he drug his mother into the gymnasium. She had hands then. Bobby shook her head a little, "he used to play that..." she smiled sadly at the memory.

Awen returned the sad smiled at regretted stirring up such a memory in the woman. "Some... of my friends used to play too." She offered her own memory in sympathy. "I never quite got into it, but I hung out with them sometimes when they played."

She shrugged a little bit and moved away from the hurt memories of the past. "Well, I haven't been very active either. From what I know the island stopped being a community a little while after I arrived. Everyone's kind of off in their own little groups and coping with their changes on their own or caught up in their own little mini-dramas." -and oh how Awen knew the mini-dramas- "No one really has time or way to see a community around here. I think that's what Richard is trying to establish. Some kind of community instead of just a smattering of people."

Bobby scratched behind her ear as she thought that over. Her eyes flashed angrily; there was one person in particular that she would NOT want to have to be "community-ified" with. The pig still blamed him for everything. Why not? If it wasn't for him she wouldn't be here... never mind some of the better results the Island brought.

"It is a noble idea, sure... but I think there are too many people here. Knowing from experience, any more than about three people will result in groups that are more difficult to overcome." That was the cop talking. She'd seen it all the time, and it didn't matter who the participants were. "Though... I don't think time is an issue...." Bobby piggishly snorted unintentionally. "We have all the time in the world here.... that's why I'm fishing," she winked.

Awen smiled at the larger woman's wink. She didn't seem entirely displeased with the island, which made Awen quite happy to see. Everyone had their qualms with the island, inhabitants, or staff members, but few ever expressed- verbally or otherwise- any kind of positive effect that had come from the island. With the woman's light hearted wink Awen figured this woman also was looking at the better aspects of life here.

"Well, as in any community not everyone will participate either. But I've seen a lot of progress even on the message board. I mean.. even Billy, I don't know if you've met him, but he's never been a very...community friendly type of guy... anyway even he is starting to post things on the board and make an effort. That's quite the improvement from last time I saw him." In a paranoid withdrawl supor trying to kill her.

At the mention of Billy, Bobby's face hardened. Her pupils dilated in anger, and her hooves started to 'clench' as best they could. She looked around with a growl. Her dark, firey gaze went back to Awen. "Yes, I know Billy!" she spit his name out through tight teeth.

If it wasn't so much work right now, the pig would stand up and stalk away right then and there. He was one of the main reasons she avoided the village as much as possible. Sure, she would eventually see him again... but if he never showed his face ever again it would be too soon. "I am not sure you want him in any community."

Awen sharnk halfway back into the water at the woman's harsh gaze and angery tone. She hadn't meant to upset hte woman like this.

"I-I know what Billy can be like..." She said at her own defence. "I mean... after he turned for the first time he tried to kill me once, in some weird conspiracy craze." The manta shook her head slowly. "But from what I've been hearing around the island he's toned down a bit. I only mentioned him because... well... he was such a... well a sleeze ball and even he's starting to make the effort of joining in..."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 12, 2006 12:37 pm

Bobby's eyes still held a kind of feverish gaze. If it were a flight or fight situation, she would fight. She didn't mean to scare Awen, but.... if had been awhile since the pig had to deal with the thought of Billy.

"You have no idea what he can be like," the pig growled again. She knew his type. He was a criminal. Sure, some people had valid excused for thier actions... but not Billy. "I wouldn't believe anything I hear about him. The only thing that may 'tone' him down would be put behind bars where light no longer enters. And if he went clinically insane, all the better.... for then he could be put in a padded room where he could no longer harm anyone else!"

Bobby didn't believe for one moment that Billy was trying to fit in from a part of his loneliness. He had to have some ulterior motive.... something. If she saw him, maybe she'd get it out of him. His spitting can only go so far....

Awen sighed softly and moved back towards the center of the river, she just wanted to feel more of the cool water's current running over her after such a heated epression of hate. Everyone was entitled to their own opinion, and even though Awen's wasn't terribly high of Billy either she didn't think he deserved as the pig lady had been describing. Not to mention that it wasn't how the island worked.

"I'm sorry I upset you." She said just loud enough for the woman to hear. "Maybe I'm a bit of an optimist and try to find the good in people, allowing for even the worst to change." Except for perhaps Moreau, that one she'd have to see to believe. "But you believe what you want, maybe you're right." She shrugged softly and turned back around.

"Listen... I'm just going to go on my way." The poor blue haired girl seemed terribly deflatted by their turn of convorsation. "Enjoy your fishing." Without another word Awen sunk back into the depths of the river. She honestly couldn't stand such negativity at the moent and didn't care to prolong their convorsation anymore.

Just when she thought the island could be taking a turn for the better... Why do people have to hang onto all of their spite and hate? It just made no sense to her....
