"Yea...." Lin nodded, "I only know the basics, I don't know the really complicated stuff, but I have to do the basics first."

She nodded back at Celebor, and she thought he looked tired.

"Do you want to rest?"

Stubborn boy that he was, Celebor just shook his head. "I'll be okay til we get to the top," he insisted. "I'll take a break when we get up there, 'kay?"

He was determined to make it all the way up - and he could see that it was getting closer and closer with each and every step ... though when he looked down again, he felt a bit dizzy.

"Don't overexert yourself," Haradhel warned the boy worriedly. If he said he was fine to keep going, she was going to believe him, but if she thought he looked too exhausted, she decided, she would call for the stop herself.

"We have all day, after all," she reminded him. "There's no rush."

Lin didn't believe Celebor, because he was looking tired and thought he was being silly. He better thought fall down, because it was a long way donw, she thought to herself.

Celebor looked up and frowned a bit when he saw the way that the other two were looking at him.

"Well ... maybe just a little break," he conceded, letting go of Haradhel's hand and carefully taking a seat on one of the steps. "But don't keep going without me, 'kay? 'Cos I don't wanna be left behind."

"Of course we won't," Haradhel assured the boy, taking a seat next to him. She set Lin on her lap. "Why would we keep going without you? That would be mean of us."

But he had certainly needed the break, she thought to herself, taking in the way he was sweating. Suddenly she realized that he wasn't quite used to this sort of heat.

"Perhaps it would be a bit easier if you gave me your shirt and belts to carry," she suggested. "You would be a bit cooler ... and it would be less of a load for you to bear."

Lin looked up at the sky, it was getting quite warm now that Haradhel had mentioned it. Fortunately being carried meant she wasn't sweating, but she was quite warm even though she wore less than Celebor. Actually Lin wondered if she would get dark, now wouldn't that be neat?

"That's a good idea, the sun is getting warmer," Lin murmured.

Celebor nodded and unbuckled his three belts, then handed them off to Haradhel to hold onto.

"Don't drop them," he told her as he stripped his tunic off and held it out to her as well. "Cos Mommy might get mad if I lose them."

"I'll be very careful," Haradhel promised Celebor, folding the articles of clothing and tucking them carefully under one arm. "After all, I wouldn't want you to lose them either."

Lin nodded at that in agreement, it wouldn't be fun to lose that stuff, especially the belts, since those were the few things that Helen couldn't remake because of the metal work.

Celebor rested until he regained his breath, and it was expedited by the fact that he was now bare-chested. When he felt good enough to keep going again, he turned to his future aunt and grinned.

"Okay, I'm all ready!" he told her, standing and turning to continue on with the climb.

Haradhel lifted Lin to her shoulder and made sure she had a good strong grip on Celebor's clothes, then took his hand and started up the mountainside with him again.

"And we're nearly to the top," she smiled at the two children. "It shouldn't be long now!"

"Yay!" Lin grinned as she watched as the entrance got closer, "And then Celebor can have a drink once we get up there."

She remembered of course the little spring, since Elrohir had taken a drink from it when he was carrying her up.

"A drink?" Celebor repeated, half surprised, half eager. "Can I really?"

He was really thirsty by now, it being so hot and such a long climb and all. He was sure that he had never ever in his life climbed anything this tall before, even when he had climbed the one mountain in the Borderlands to visit Amara and Fletcher!

"Of course you can," Haradhel smiled at the boy. "There's a spring right up at the top where anyone can drink from ... it's the spring that supplies the water for all of the mountain, actually, one of the very few sources of water in the desert. Without it, the elves would probably have had to rebuild on the island where the Old City was."

And she turned and pointed down to where the ruins of the Old City were now visible, very nearly out of sight, even for elvish eyes. Whether or not Lin would be able to see them at all, she wasn't certain.
