I just want to know who the 665 people above Lucifer are, oh and Beezlebub would have been a better choice. talk2hand

I actually considered that, but then decided to go with the more well-known one, otherwise most people wouldn't know what it was, and the preppy kids wouldn't have had "wtf" faces. I also considered Nero, but decided against it for the same reason.
nero was a man, not a demon/fallen angel. it wouldnt have made sense.

"welcome to hell; my name is virgil" would have been an intellectual win, though (as virgil was dante's guide through hell in "the inferno").

and digi - if you're truly interested, i can get you the demonic hierarchies with the kings and generals of hell. i can also get you the angelic hierarchies, though that'd take a couple days as i forget which book i saw that in, whereas i own several with the demonic hierarchies...
That is actually something I would like to know.
i'll consult my occult books and PM you the hierarchies tonight
Aright thanks. Now I will just need to figure out how this knowledge could be used as a weapon.
that information is also in the occult books. i can suggest a couple volumes for you to pick up

Nero would still most definitely be in hell though. Also, the whole thing with people thinking he was the reason for "666". Or was that some other emperor? I forget. And yes, Virgil would have been win, but I didn't have time to ponder this, my friend just happened to give me a nametag right before class. Also, didn't Dante misrepresent Virgil in the Inferno? Like, give him a different role than he was originally believed to have?

nero and caligula have both been suspected to have been "the beast" written about in the book of revelations. it was thought that 666 was actually a numerological code for one of them. however, NEITHER nero's name, nor caligula's, nor any variations upon those names (even ones including their various titles) comes out to 666. the closes is 50 off - 616. i forget who's name came out to 616, and i don't have time to work out the gematria on 4 or 5 variations of each name and tell you.

as for virgil, virgil was in limbo, the circle of hell reserved for honourable peoples who happened to exist before/never heard of jesus christ. it is not a realm of suffering, and is as pleasant as the afterlife can be while still being removed from god's presence for all eternity. he was merely acting as dante's guide, and was a flat character. there was nothing much for dante to misrepresent - unless you count the fact that the pope, a few years ago, decided that limbo didn't actually exist and dante had been wrong about its existence.

catholics change their rules too much - limbo exists for almost two millenia, only to be done away with. first it was a sin to eat meat on fridays, now it's not. it was an offense to say the mass in a language other than latin, now its not... they need to get their damned rules straight.

Mega, it's been proven long ago that what is interesting for the catholic church hierarchy is "how to make more money and still look good".

It also took them a few hundred years to admit that earth was not infact the center of the universe.

virgil was an actual poet, who wrote the aeneid, in the early days of the roman empire. one of the early caesars (im not sure if it was julius or augustus) commissioned the work. dante modeled the inferno around virgil's poem, and drew inspiration from him. this is why he was dante's guide through hell - because he was dante's hero.

and purgatory was not made up for the sake of selling indulgences. the concept of purgatory existed long before the practice of selling indulgences emerged. furthermore, unlike the concept of limbo, it is still accepted church doctrine.

hollow - and the protestants didnt? at the time, the church's theory and the copernican theory were both equally valid. they were based upon speculation taken from observable phenomena here on the planet earth. scientific advancement has shown that the church was wrong, but given what was actually known at the time, both theories were equally valid hypotheses. and, at the time, the protestants believed that the universe was earth-centered as well. in fact, martin luther himself was extremely critical of copernicus, believing the scientist to be a fool. john calvin shared this view. also, the ban on heliocentric works was lifted in 1757, which is only 140 years (not the centuries which you claimed) after they first started banning works that accepted heliocentrism as truth.

Mnyeh, a quick trip to Wikipedia cleared that up.

Either way, they just seem to be pulling this stuff out of nowhere. I don't think the words pope or purgatory are anywhere in the bible... Now go ahead and prove if I'm wrong so I can learn! xd
