Sahira and Ruby were in mid conversation, the topic being earth's spicy foods, and the weakness of the kick. Ruby insisted that the south had some very nice spicy food if you knew where to look, and Sahira insisting that even the hottest pepper didn't have so much as a pinch of the fire in foods from her home world.
Sahira stopped in the middle of her words, her ear twitching as she heard someone at the door. "Keep talking Red," She whispered to Ruby and began moving slowly to her door. Ruby carried on the conversation with herself, a task that she had always been relatively good at.
Sahira pulled the door open and moved to grab the intruder into a throw that would follow with her knee against his mid back and himself pinned to the ground.

The Chief, who had been expecting everything but a sudden attack from the inhabitants, was hauled in and thrown to the ground, a knee holding him to the ground.
"Bullshit." He muttered through the carpet. "Even with super hearing, that's crap. I was quiet as a mouse."

Sahira let out a soft chuckle, "quiet as a mouse? I suppose it's an appropriate term, considering you were sneaking up on a cat." Sahira moved off of him and sat back onto the ground. "Mice tend to be very loud, so you know."
Ruby peeked out from behind one of the large pillows, her gray eyes blinking at the stranger.
"So, Onyx, not the person I would have expected, care to explain how you found me, and why you're hear?"

"I'll take it into consideration next time." The Chief said, rolling over and sitting up. "Didn't think you'd be so foreword, figured I'd buy you a drink before you threw me across the room." He adjusted his gun holster, which was digging into his side. "I found you both thanks to the guy with the eye. I'm here to see what I can do about the bad streak of luck Ms. St. Claire's been having." He tossed a glance over at Ruby. "The Angel's in the city, and he's worried sick, but the bad guy's still out and about, and their going to go hunt him down, and he wanted the girl to be protected."
He cracked his arm, looking around the room. "Though you seem to be doing a good job, even 'gainst the folks not lookin' to harm."

"I'm always forward, Dark eyes, word of warning to you." Sahira raised an eyebrow. "Guy with the eye?"
"The seer," Ruby said, glancing at Sahira, Ruby pointed at her mouth. "He does weird things with a giant eyeball in his mouth. Kinda creepy, but he ain't a bad guy."
Sahira gave a slight shudder, "all right then." She tossed a pillow at the Chief. "Make yourself comfortable, Onyx. I suppose if the Angel charged in here with guns blazing, I'm not on his bad side, at least for now. Can I get you a drink?"
"The tea is pretty good," Ruby whispered to him before she took a sip from her mug. "So the Angel's all right then?"

"Tea sounds great." The Chief said, leaning his back against one of the large pillows.
"So the Angel's your man out at sea, huh?" The Chief said, turning to Ruby. "Left in his boat, to be tossed and torn in the waves before he can return?" The Chief harrumphed. "Only question is, is his lady going to be waiting for him? You seem iffy on it. You asked if he's alright, but the way he speaks of you, I'd expect you to have a pet name for him, one more than what everyone else in the city calls him." The Chief raised an eyebrow at her to note that the statement was a question.
"Yeah, he's alright."

(Pffff, it wasn't wordy.))
Ruby flinched slightly, feeling guilty for her thoughts on Mississippi, especially when the Chief put things the way he did. "Feathers." she said quietly. "An' of course I'll wait for him, just didn't know exactly where I'd be waitin' for him...." Her lips turned up very slightly as he mentioned Arch was all right, and she let out a soft breath, letting go of a worry that had been with her since the shelter. "He send a message with you?"
Sahira walked over with a fresh mug of tea, offering it to him. "Still have that song stuck in your head, Dark-eyes?"

"My apologies, St. Claire. I'm not usually so sharp, but some things just happen to catch on the corners and snag." He shrugged. "He didn't, no, but I think he was naive to our little discussion we just had here. And he can stay that way, if you want."
The Chief took the mug, grinning with a nod of thanks. "Just got sailin' in the mind'n blood. How do you think I learned it? I was raised by the sea." He took a sip of the tea, and nodded his pleasure.

Ruby shook her head, "Don't matter much either way, he can read stuff off me like I were a book." She held back a chuckle from the wording, but then scrunched her brow a bit, concerned about what all she wanted to tell him and what she didn't. She played absently with the moth necklace.
Sahira lounged onto a pillow across from the Cheif. "Funny that, you being raised by the sea." She gave a small smile, "born and raised in the desert, and never saw so much as a lake of over ground water, until this place. I heard an old woman singin' the song, and it reminded me of some songs from home, even without a sea. So what wetlands do you spawn from, Onyx?"

The Chief passed a curious glance over Ruby, swinging past to Sahira. "The coast of South Carolina. My father was a sailor, and my mom would sing the song to get me to sleep when he was gone. Sticks with you." He took another sip. "So what's this about deserts?"

Ruby smiled, "Thought I sensed a southern man." She twirled the necklace around her finger, her hands always restless things.
Sahira gave a nod. "Deserts, as in my home, big sandy things, usually hot in the day, cold at night, though my desert was very very hot in the day. You know what a desert is, don't you Onyx?" Sahira grinned her catty grin. "Hmm, forgot to mention, they're dry too."

"I know what a desert is, but I said it 'fore, you don't seem human. You don't seem like you're 'round here, here bein' the planet."

"If you wish to ask me questions, be direct, fish." Sahira flashed her catlike grin, in a sharp spread of white on her warm-toned skin. "No, I'm not from here, here being your planet."
Ruby's head perked up in curiosity, "Are you from Juridan?" It was the only other-world she'd heard people tell of, so of course would be her immediate assumption.
Sahira gave a shake of her head. "No, definitley not."

"Where you from, then, Ra? I heard tell that most of the high-up folks in the war are from the same off-world, so where did you set off from?"
