Leaving her behind eventually turned to bullying her, once they learned she could not fight back, small and slow and frankly just pitiful, she knew it. So she withdrew, into the cover of trees where she could slip under the logs and into the holes no one else could reach, creating her own secret places.
She grew, of course, though slower than the others still, until she could not longer quite fit into the places she's made. But she would not give up navigating the woods that were her shelter, and more than that, the woods that were her chance to grow if she couldn't quite grow with the others. She would begin knocking her horns into trees and going over the logs instead of under them, gaining stamina and growing stronger to fell larger trees.
They found her secret places, eventually. They saw the obstacle courses she'd made, always training, running in a way too graceful for a totoma, jumping over logs and bashing into trees that would split in half. They wanted to join in her courses, and she'd always win.
