As the dinner was nearing to the end, people had stopped by their table to wish Andarien a happy birthday. Normally they would gather around for the gift giving, but they realized that might be too many people for Andarien.
Kara and Donovan were there though, with their twin daughters, and so where Triton and Trisha, as Triton was the eldest son and since Cindy wasn't there, Trisha was there as the eldest daughter.
Mi and Long were still there because they too had a present to give, but Mi nodded at her daughter in law, "You first."
Kara giggled and presented Andarien with a wooden box had been painted with complicated geometric designs. The odd thing about the box, was that it was perfectly smooth, it didn't appear to have a lid or hinges, but closer inspection of the box revealed faint lines to suggest the box was put together in several panels instead of the usual six sides.
"It's called a puzzle box, there's candy inside, but you need to figure out how to open it first. You need to slide panels forward or back in a particular order in order to open it. Sliding the right panel, will unlock a different panel to slide, until the box opens. This one is supposed to be 12 steps long."

Andarien was beaming. "Another puzzle!" he exclaimed. "Neat! Thank you, Grandma!"
He took the box and turned it over in his hands, looking at the geometric shapes. He wanted so badly to try to open it - just as he wanted so badly to open the chest his mother had given him - but he knew that it would be rude to ignore everyone who was here for him and take the time to work on it now.
He would do it later.
He set the box aside for the moment and ran forward to give Kara a hug. "Thank you!" he said again. "I bet I'll have loads of fun with it!"

"I'm sure you will, and once you figure it out, you can hide things in there. It looks pretty unassuming unless you knew what it was."
It looked like a paper weight really since there was no obvious sign of how to open it.
"Your turn," she looked to her in laws.
Long laughed and presented Andarien with another box that was narrow and not thicker than a large textbook. It was clear not all of it was made out of wood as there was a polished smooth stone surface with a grid like pattern on it. A hing that took up most of one side showed that it could be opened all the way.
"This is a game your grandfather Daemon and I play," he showed Andarien by opening the box and turning it into a game board, "The pieces are magnetic so it won't fall off when jostled so you can play while riding in a cart or something."
He then proceeded to explain to Andarien and by extension the rest of the family how to play Go.

Andarien listened carefully, trying to remember the rules. He hoped one of the adults could help him with it when the time came for them to play.
"That sounds neat," he murmured when Long had finished explaining, "but fun."
He smiled up at his great-grandparents.
"Thank you very much!"

"You're welcome, and now you'll have quite the mental workout and something to do while you're traveling," Mi replied.
"Though between Eon and everything else, I think you'll be busy for a while," Long laughed.
It sounded like the boy would have his hands full for a while now.

"And I'm going to learn how to read, too!" Andarien said proudly.
There would be no time for boredom on this trip, no matter what anyone said. Of course, he had never been sailing, but he was sure that there would always be plenty to do. Long was right - between Eon, lessons, and getting to use his new things, he was going to have plenty to keep him busy.

Eventually the party ended and everyone stopped by the table at least once to say good bye, and if they hadn't said happy birthday to do so as well. Some stayed behind to help clean up.
By the time the children were ushered upstairs it was late and people were probably tired from it all the excitement (or work).
The week was almost up but there was one or two more errands to do, but otherwise the next day would not be as busy as the previous days.

"Do you think we should wake Andarien, if he's not already awake?" Earendil asked Lin as they prepared to leave their room the next morning. "I think yesterday was quite a busy day for him, and if I'm not mistaken, he probably stayed up late even after we tucked him in to figure out the puzzle box and the chest ..."
Knowing Andarien, that would not have come as a surprise.

Lin chuckled, Andarien had been so good to leave those things until after the party, she wouldn't have been surprised neither.
"We're not in any hurry, we still have two more days left, I don't see why not."
And she had no where to take them this time. Making sure she had everything she needed, Lin opened the door to see Miyuki was already in the hallway. She must have woken up early.
Which didn't surprise Lin, because Miyuki did seem like an early riser. What was interesting though was that Miyuki apparently had been up early enough to take time out to find one of the old baby carriers, which she placed her egg in. Now that she had a proper carrier, now she felt comfortable taking it around with her.
Though she was right now looking at Senka who was perched on her shoulder as if to tell the cat to behave.

"Good morning, Miyuki," Earendil smiled at their daughter. "I see you've found a safe way to keep your egg about you. Did you sleep well?"
He saw the look Miyuki was giving to Senka, and he had a bit of trouble keeping himself from chuckling - though he did manage it. It wouldn't surprise him if Senka was being possessive about Miyuki, though he had to admit that being jealous of an egg was a bit excessive. Still, he had no doubt that Miyuki would make sure Senka behaved in the end.
He blinked as suddenly he heard something scratching at Andarien's door from the other side.
"Sounds like Eon wants out," he mused. "Andarien must still be asleep then after all."
They'd only been guessing before, but now he supposed they knew for certain.

Miyuki nodded before she even heard the scratching at the door. Deciding it the poor thing probably needed to be let out, she toddled over to the door and opened it just a crack so not to disturb Andarien if he was asleep.
Though she did peek through the crack to make doubly sure he was still asleep.

Instead of running out of the door, Eon turned back and ran over to Andarien, who was sprawled out on his belly on the floor between his puzzle box and chest. Both were sitting open, which showed just how late he might have stayed up the night before, but what was more of a surprise was the fact that, under the blanket that covered only from his waist to his knees, he was naked ... and nearly twice the size he had been the day before.
He didn't seem any the worse for wear, though ... he was snoring softly, showing no discomfort despite the way his goggles were skewed over his forehead.

Miyuki looked over her shoulder at her parents and told them quietly.
"Andarien is sleeping on the floor, he's naked and he grew."
She wondered if this meant they would have to get him remeasured by Uncle Helen and if their uncle would be able to get the clothes done in time.

Earendil looked at Lin, his eyebrows arched high - not in surprise, but more a reaction of now? Then he grinned. "Do we wake him or leave him?" he asked her softly. "He's going to need to go see Helen again."
And the more time they give to Helen to restart Andarien's wardrobe, the better, he suspected.

"Maybe I can call Helen to have him come over to do the measuring, it wouldn't take long and he does live near by...."
Lin murmured thoughtfully because really Andarien probably wouldn't be in any shape to walk all the way to Helen's place.
"Though he really shouldn't be sleeping like that, he's going to be sore when he wakes up."
The bare ground outside was softer somewhat than a hardwood floor.
