So he was rejected, by the gorgeous magnificent Captain, in this world he knew nothing of. How painful it was, he re-considered to farewell the cruel world and went back to his safe pod. He grabbed his shirt at the position of the heart, pretending.

Following the cool lady to the entrance, the tall man squinted at the pitch-black hole he couldn't see anything. "Here? Do you have a torch or something I can borrow?" Was it some sorts of tests again? Maybe there would be monsters waiting for him down there, he wasn't afraid of dark, but something in hand would be more reassuring. He could make good use of it.

"Before I go down, can I know the name of the Captain?" A quick hug easily made with his arms reached out, she looked like she needed a warm hug to melt the icy attitude. "I'm Ace, how can I find you if I can get out safely?" Obviously he wanna sign up to be her crew member.

Secretly Claude kind of thrived on crushing hearts. Only a little bit. She stood off to the side of the entrance, her arms crossed, eyeing him. "Here, also, no." He'd be fine though. "Descend the steps and you'll be in a room containing glowing tablets. One of them will call to you." That was all she said on the matter, and stared at him for a long moment before she finally gave him her name.

"Claude." When asked about how to find her...well, she wasn't too keen to answer that. She ended up getting an unwanted room mate when that happened. Instead she answered: "Training fields." That was then followed up by, "Good luck." As she left him there.

Horace thumbed to the next page of his book. Lady Weathership was kidnapped and, while he realized he should be hoping for her eventual rescue by the dashing Lord something-or-other, as a protagonist she was damn annoying. He kind of hoped she'd die. But it was only chapter three, so it was highly (and sadly) doubtful. "You knave!," she cried out as the sleeve of her imminently fashionable gown was torn, revealing one creamy shoulder. The milky blue-white of her skin- He snorted. This was awful. It was also from the library, so he at least it didn't have to haunt his shelves forever. He'd return it after his shift.

Something hissed. Something blinked. Horace dropped his - no, the library's - book in surprise. For the first time on his shift, someone was waking up! He grabbed his clipboard and darted out the door. Eventually, he slowed, nearing the pod in question. Horace ran a hand through his hair.

"Hello," he called out amicably.

There was no fanfare, no great hullabaloo, just the usual beeping and hissing of the pod relinquishing its hold on its contents. The door eased open, allowing the pod room's air to reach the woman inside. Slowly, the time-frozen woman came to life, though it might take a while before she could get a sense of her identity and surroundings.

What she got instead, was a sense of disorientation, and the feeling of deja vu, which under normal circumstance she shouldn't have. There was a greeting from a voice she didn't recognize, but they didn't sound hostile or smugly superior so that was a good sign. She squinted into the light, lifting a hand to shield her from the glare as she asked muzzily, "Am I awake?"

"Yep, as awake as possible. How're you feeling, Li... Lig... Ms. Santos?" Horace peered at her pod, trying to puzzle out her first name before turning his eyes to the woman. Fairly average height, dark hair and currently sporting an expression that certainly spoke of her confusion. But otherwise, she looked hale and healthy. Horace reached out and placed a hand on her arm before pinching her, just a bit.

"Definitely awake." He grinned. "Congratulations and welcome to Deus, and all that! I'm Horace Nokoni and I will be your guide for this evening. Think you feel up to walking?"

She blinked, Ms. Santos? Oh, right, that's who she was, "Joy," she rasps, coughing to clear her throat. "It's shorter than Ligaya and definitely shorter than Ms. Santos," she grins. She felt the pinch, and just snorted, it was a slight sting, nothing that she could truly prove to herself.

Carefully she made her way out of the pod, her legs wobbling from imbalance, and her footwear certainly didn't help matters any. Gripping the pod, she shook her head and finally took a better look at her welcome wagon."Ampota, you drink a lot of milk as a kid?" she gawked up without shame. Growing up as one of the tall ones, suddenly being face to face with someone of Horace's height was a bit of a shock. "Ay, ah, um, sorry, but can I ask a favor first?" she asked, scratching at her cheek in a semi-sheepish manner.

Well, that was a lot easier to remember. Horace's hands reached out to steady Joy as she clambered out - he remembered how he'd almost fallen flat on his face getting out. "Oh man, are you in for a shock. Most of the people here are either super tiny-" He held his hand at waist height. It might've been a bit of an exaggeration, but the island did have a lot of short people. "-or tall, sometimes taller than me." His grin widened and Horace clacked his tongue piercing against his teeth.

"Depends on the favor - if it involves getting half-naked and mud-wrestling, I am not up for it. Anything else - my wish is your command." He waggled his eyebrows at her playfully. Horace was a bit nervous (this was the first person he'd seen pop out of a pod!) and nervous Horace meant unfunny jokes and bad flirting.

Joy gave a whistle, "The place is prone to extremes, huh? That's cool, I like extreme." The scars on her body was more than proof. At the waggling of his brows, Joy could only give a rather unlady-like snort of laughter, "Ohs? You promise?" she mimicked the movement with her own brows, already allowing herself to relax despite not completely having regained her bearings.

She didn't want to show him her disappointment that his face wasn't the one she was hoping to find, but at the same time, she didn't want to give the impression that she was the sort of woman who pined over someone. Especially not someone she met for barely a week, what was she? The main character in one of those Sweet Dreams pocketbooks? Pushing that train of thought to the very back of her mind, she pulled her mouth into an ear-to-ear grin, "Hit me."

Horace grinned at her. Whatever type pf person Joy was, she looked fun. Her request was more than a little odd, though. "Hit you? Now why would I wanna hit a lady like you?" But he did it anyway, giving her a light tap on her shoulder, nothing hard. It was more a gentle push.

"That good?" He snorted and folded his arms.

Again she snort-laughed, "Can't remember the last time anyone called me a lady, but thanks. That's real sweet of you," and the smile she gave him said she meant ever word. It faltered a little with the shove, not that it hurt but that it didn't hurt enough.

"Listen, Horace, last time I stepped outta that pod, it turned out this freaky-deaky computer program was messing with me. Made me think I was awake when I wasn't. The pinch and the push aren't gonna convince me that you're not another ALICE trap."

She gestured to her cheek, "C'mon, a slap'll do. A real one this time. Lemme hear and feel that skin."

"Huh. A computer program? I guess I'm glad that didn't happen to me in pod." He paused and when he spoke again, his voice had taken on an exaggerated robotic quality. "I am flesh... and blood, human. Not ro...bot." Although, he was a smutbot, according to Harley. He eyed her cheek thoughtfully and pulled a face.

Drawing back his arm, Horace punched her square in the jaw. The crack of it echoed in the pod room. Oops, maybe he hadn't meant to hit her so hard...

Even though she'd braced herself for it, the blow took her by surprise. The impact was jarring, but not entirely unfamiliar, that pesky sense of deja vu returned, although there was a more nostalgic, reassuring feel to it. Stars winked before her eyes as the world suddenly turned sideways. It was only because she was still gripping the pod for balance that she didn't outright fall flat on her face.

That she was still conscious after a punch like that (and without a FEAR shield) was either a testament to her hard-headed ways, or Horace held back. Joy's pride would prefer to think it the former, but it was more likely a mixture of both. She shook her head clear, free hand rubbing the sore spot of her jaw, tongue running over gum and teeth to find yep, still there.

"Now that's what I'm talking about!" she barked in laughter as she offered her free hand to Horace. "Domo arigato, Mister Robot-o!" she sang, joining in on his earlier joke, not at all caring if the reference was dated.

"You ok?" His voice was woirried but then she laughed and stuck out her hand. Whew. He shook it, his own grin falling back into place. "Feel more awake now? Or at least convinced I'm not a program? Which, by the way, you have to tell me about sometime. Please." It sounded like one of those odd dream states the other hunters had spoken of. There was something fascinating about collective dreams - especially how the same people seemed to run into each other.

Abruptly, he pointed to the arrows on the floor. "Before anything else, you've gotta get your weapon, Joy." The clipboard was pulled out from under his arm and he flipped through a few things. "Then you get your coat, your room, your phone and twitter. Oh, looks like you're in moon, awesome. Unless, of course, you wanna pepper me with questions - it's why I'm here!"

"As awake as I'll ever get, I think," she nodded, far too chipper for a person who'd just been socked a clean one. "Nice hook, by the way, but an uppercut's hard to land on someone shorter than you." It was the adrenaline talking, firing up muscles that ached to be moved, and pumping blood that had been stilled too long. Joy was getting ready to start her new life, and as she was about to bring up questions regarding how-to-be-a-Hunter, Horace beat her to the punch (heh).

"Sure, I'll tell you about ALICE, or what crazy s**t I can remember. Stuff's a little bit on the fuzzy side, not your doing, so chillax on that front."

At the mention of weapons, Joy's brown eyes practically lit up like a Christmas tree. Yes! She was getting her own totally cool weapon! There was also a room and clothes and she was getting a phone! ******** yeah! She hoped her touch-texting hadn't gotten rusty while in the pod.

"Just a couple of Q&As, um, how do I get my weapon? Does the Moon division got some initiation-hazing I gotta pass or are you bound to secrecy not to answer that? And after I get my weapon, can I see yours? I promise not to touch~"

"Thanks," he said. Horace pursed his lips for a second. "So, you go down the stairs to get your weapon - I'll walk you. You'll know which is yours, trust me. Remember, you aren't crazy. Much... maybe." He gestured for her to follow him down the row of silent pods. There were faces inside each one: sleeping hunters-to-be that might never make. Joy was lucky, if you could call it that.

"I'm in death, so I don't know anything about moon. But if you need anything from Moon division, you see either Edith, the head, or you talk to Harrison - he's the most ******** helpful guy you'll meet." He paused; they were at the top of the stairs. "Head on down, Joy. Find me later and I'll show you and you can even touch." He winked at her and made a shooing motion with his hands.
