lethal_bullet I've been thinking and drop pods are stupid. We could just fire a few seekers at them and kill all their guys before thy even land. Also, My dad got a 9m x 3m Marquee/tent for srpaying in, and i can use it to play big battles on our ping pong table thats sitting in the garage! Woot! Drop pods are not stupid I use them all the time. You cant destroy them untill they hit the table, and as soon as that happens the troops disembark. You could destory it and mabe catch some guys in the ensueing d6 explosioin but thats it. The tent thing sounds cool. Big battle rule ! mrgreen

But the thing about pods is they are fired at the enemy right, well that gives them a clear shot at them as they decened. They would be dead before the hit the ground!

Dude what are you talking about ? Drop pods work like deep strike. They scatter. Should they land on something they insted scatter and land 1 inch from what ever they where about to land on. They only shoot at the enemy once they have landed not before. Think of it this way, the pods are in space before they come into play. They cant shoot at you and you cant shoot at them. Once there on the table there free game.

Huh, well your pretty much wrong in everyway. Drop pods are one of the scariest things in the Warhammer 40k universe, few enemies have ever survived such an attack form the space marines. Drop pods are fired from space ship sin orbit, after all orbital defense are destroyed. So they have nearly total air/space control. They streak towards the enemy at an alarming speed. So fast nothing can really hit them. When they hit, they will open up and their deadly payload will be unleashed. And while not represented in the miniature game 5 space marines is enough to break any line.
Drop pods can come from anywhere at anytime. You don't expect them and they hit before you have a chance to shoot at them. Their not dumb.
Anyways, like I said I was fighting nids for the first time yesterday and today.
You can tell how my experienced grew by my battles.
First Battle: 1,600 points
Space Marines: Draw Nids: Draw (In favor of nids by 3 points, closest game I ever played)
Second Battle: 1,500 points Space Marines: Solid Victory Nids: Lost
Third Battle: 1,000 points Space Marines: Victorious Slaughter Nids: Lost
Just another few battle sto chalk up to my record, so far only one person has defeated me in a fair game. Redd. Other then that my Marines have crushed, burned, destroyed, killed, every race in the galaxy. Tau, Necrons, Orks, Guardsmen, Eldar, and now Nids.

Well, this nid player, made one big mistake that tossed me off at first. Playing nids, I did what I thought would come natural. I took heavy bolters, and lots of them. The only lascannons I had got mounted on Razorbacks.
But my nid player, like to use almost every piece of wargear he had on his big models. (A carifrex with 5 wounds, 2+ Armors save and 7 toughness DOES NOT GO DOWN EASY with heavy bolters On top of this he had a winged hive tyrant at 6 or 7 toughness with 4 wounds and a 2+ armor save. Those are just their basic stuff he gave them but all in all those models had tons of upgrades I mean the stuff you can put on a nid is increadible.)
The next thing that through me off was those Zanathropes, I had no idea they came with 2+ armor saves. My heavy bolters did almost nothing to them but their ap3 blast did a lot to me. And three of them was not pretty.
Thirdly he had genestealers a lot of them and a squad with a broodlord
The final and last thing that through me off, was the deep striking sneak creatures. I forget their names, I got the worst luck on them and he got a ton of luck on his reading roles. By the end of the game just 6 of those things had killed my dev squad, 2 tactical squads, my Commander, and four terminators. But luckily thanks to how many table quarters I controlled I made up most of my points. In the end it was really close it was a 3 point draw.
By next two games I came prepared, The first time I used two preds at once. Those thing have so much firepower. On the second game he had One caranifrex with 5 wounds, a winged hive tyrant and a normal tyrant with 3 tyrant guards. That is a scary sight to see all of those and have him deep strike other units.
But my two preds destroyed the carni first turn! That got him upset, a 298 point model. I couldn't stop laughing in my head. I chewed up his smaller units and then my preds turned to his winged hive tyrant, it ducked behind full cover after I missed all three of the lascannons on it(Including the twinlinked turret mounted on). By Terminators came over and the assault cannon did two wounds, followed up by a charge by every tactical squad I had, a techmarine, and my chapter master. They destroyed the tyrant and only 3 marines, and 3 gun servos down.
Of course the turn before that the tyrant killed most of my terminator squad.
My Preds aimed their lascannons at the normal tyrant and body guard tearing them to pieaces. By then end of the game I had condoled enough space to give me a few extra points and had most of my men alive. I came out with a solid victory.
Then the third game I can't even explain, it was glourious. I tore through nids, crushing them at every turn. Two preds with 3 lascannons each will send fear into anyone fielding a ton of large creatures in a nid army.
I killed two carnis that game, a hive tyrant, 3 zornathropes, 1 brood lord, plus all the little stealers that follow him and a bunch of gaunts. I lost 5 scouts and 3 servos the entire game. It was great, I crushed him utterly.
The biggest tip, make sure you are aware what kind of nid army your enemy fields, because it can go either way. If you plan wrong you can be in for a world of hurt. Also make sure you know that they cannot be killed out right. So don't try.

Also, take deathwatch. They will help if you are playing someone who likes to give his nids extra carapace. I gave my death watch Kraken bolts.
Kraken Bolters; Range30 S4 AP4 Rapid Fire.

The Deathwatch: Militan arm of the Ordo Xenos
The Deathwatch is a massive group of Space Marines collected from every chapter. Each marine is an expert xeno fighter, and a veteran of thousands of campaigns.
They are marines; they released official stats for them in a white dwarf. They are tournament legal.
