"Hm... I'd say... that both of us made enough mistakes that they all led us closer and closer to each other, until finally one night you were caught by an aggressive man, and I was thrown out of my element by a murder."
And that was just the condensed, short story version of both their fates that night. And to think, all it took was a decision on his part to go to her aid, and offer her safety. He wasn't sure what Raquel had done on her end, but whatever it was, it had worked out for the best.

"I was shocked by your kindess..." She admited softly. "You threw me for a loop... I've never accepted help let alone been offered help by strangers. I jsut figured you looked like you could shell out some major bucks for a night of company, so I went with you. Though you continued to throw me curveballs, somehow ending us up here..." She seemed to run through their history in fast forward, suddenly realizing how much they had been through in such a short time.
"I'm not saying anything against their relationship...but it just seems like we've come farther with each other as well as ouselves, as much if not more than Richard and Lorey..." She noted, just thinking out loud. "Then again I don't know them that well..."

Damian thought on that for a second. He did know Lorey...
"Well, Lorey used to be an absolute mouse. Perhaps not so much with me, but with everyone else, she would do as she was told, and never cry when she was yelled at or miserable. Now it seems she can cry whenever she feels the need, and fight back. There's a strength there that she didn't have."
As for Richard, he would always be a brute and an a**, but an endearing one who Damian did owe a lot to.

Raquel looked at him from the side, nodding. "I hadn't known that... We spent a little time together out shopping...butI think we slipped a part a little when I brought Sveriana into the picture...I ...I still regret that..." She looked sad as her gaze fell from Damian's face. "It was for you though...I was tired of losing people simply because I knew them...I wanted to redeem myself but ended up making things worse...." She furrowed her brow.

"Well, you thought Richard was expendable. You were willing to take him out of the picture for my sake... and while I suppose that is an understandable feeling, you can't blame Lorey for holding that against you for quite some time, maybe always."
Damian stopped, feeling like he was saying too much that was already known. It did bother him that she brought an assassin into the house to take out Richard, which led to an entire catastrophe that may have been avoided, but there was also the fact that while nervous, he was a terrible shot. Raquel had been wounded because of his hand, so while she had hurt Lorey, he had hurt her.
They both ha to learn when to simply put the gun, proverbial or no, down.

"...I didn't want Richard to die....I ...I just knew she would come after you. If I didn't comply, she was going to hunt you down, finding Richard anyhow in the process, and kill you both. I was hoping to somehow turn the tables once I got her here but-...that only somewaht worked..." She furrowed her brow. "Thats what I meant forever when I told you I was dangerous. I have a few dark aquainteces like that, who could do you a lot of damage. Though luckily, most are long gone, and the worst of them was sveriana...where ever she is..."
Raquel was silent for a moment, silent guilt settling in her chest. If it wasn't for her, Richard's life wouldn't have been in danger. If it wasn't for her, they wouldn't have had to go to Altru, where they were put through hell. If it wasn't for her-
She had to stop herself, feeling a single tear roll down her face. "I didn't mean to ever bring any pain onto any of you..." She whispered, her voice cracking slightly. She suddenly realized she couldn't expect Lorey or Richard to forgive her any time soon, if at all. Richard was trying hard to treat her normally, though even behind his joking, she could hint the distrust and slight disgust. That kind of thing had never bothered her till now, mostly because she felt she was part of this 'family'.

Raquel was full of complications, contradictions, and was overall unpredictable. Why he was in love with her was probably due to these things, because in all these ways, Raquel was the Ball Room he loathed and loved and missed.
She was repulsive in ways that he was repulsive, and amazing just as he was as well. Damian hadn't really willingly thought of it in a way that cast her in a flawed light before, but it was time that he realized just how flawed Raquel was, and how seeing that didn't matter because, quite simply, he loved her.

Raquel smiled slightly to herself, turning on her side to look at him. "...You're right. I suppose thats why we're both here...to keep reminding the other that huh?" She smiled a bit more relaxed, leaning over to kiss his cheek.

Damian merely smiled, trying hard to keep content in their moment, and not think of sad thoughts about things they had done or could not control.
Lorey, though, was being struck with a thought that sent her into a bit of an emotional tumble. As she had read the morning paper, she glanced at a logo of the planet used by the company who printed it. Veratia, she realized, had no green on it. There was no country in Veratia, because the entire planet was covered in skyscrapers, speeder landing stretches, sidewalks, homes, businesses, factories...
Where would her and Richard find their country home?
Their dreams couldn't possibly come true if they stayed there, and yet they were bound because of their jobs. No credits meant no traveling, or finding a home elsewhere. How could they have forgotten that there was no country in Veratia?

Raquel felt his mood change, but said nothing, bringing her self even closer to him, their bare bodies staying snug under the sheets. She ran her hand over his face, smiling as she kissed on him gently and repeatedly. "You've got a little stubble coming in...It's sexy." she smiled, trying to ligthen his heart and mood.
Richard finally re emerged from the shower, dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and a casual button up shirt. He had freshened up as best as he could so he could feel his best, spending the day with his love. He had a faint smell of aftershave, one he had guessed was supplied by Damian for his use. It wasn't to over bearing and was rather pricey by the looks of it. He hoped silently Lorey would like it as he rejoined her in the kitchen, leaning down to kiss her cheek. "Whats wrong Love? You look worried..." He noted, suddenly serious as he took a seat near her.

"Is it?" Damian returned her affections, and added in some of his own. He'd always thought being clean-shaven was a good thing, but apparently looking rough and stubbly was working in his favor. "I won't grow a beard, though. I despise having long facial hair."
Lorey's eyes stayed on the paper as her fingers traced the full-colored image on the page.
"Veratia's one big, grey city, Richard. There is no country, so no country home." Even while she sounded rather matter-of-fact, there was an unbeatable sadness in her words. They'd made a mistake in their dreaming.
"I think our fantasies went a little far ahead of us."

"I'd have to agree with you there..." She smiled, crinching her nose up in a humourous disgust. "...Not as sexy really....if at all..." She smiled, letting her arm sort of hug the side of his face as she messed with his hair a bit. She closed her eyes, sighing slightly. "...I wish we could jsut...freeze. Right here..." She stated softly, relishing the moment.
Richard furrowed his brow. "Darling, our dreams are more than obtainable, they're iniment. I've never really wanted to stay on Veratia anyways..." He admitted, really despising this planet in all. "We've just got to save and pull some strings...and never let our dream die." He took up Lorey's hands in his to make his last point stand out.

"If we could freeze, right here, we might miss out on a great deal." He kissed her nose teasingly. "Many kareoke nights and movie nights and perhaps nights where we sit in the yard and have a fire or two. Why would we want to sit here and freeze when we have all of that ahead of us?"
Perhaps even the rest of their lives. Damian had been toying with that idea lately. Would Raquel marry him? He never really could answer that question himself.
She looked in his eyes for a few long moments before her smile broke through her worry. Lorey just had to smile when Richard was so confident, looking at her with those brown eyes that wouldn't let anything slip past.
"I guess I'm just too used to things not working out that I just... looked at that picture and thought it was gone for a second."
Once again her eyes went to the logo, and took on a sad light. "I never liked this world, either... But I never knew where else to go."

Raquel opened her eyes, looking over to him. She smiled, seeming to laugh to herself. "I love you...I hope I don't wear that out but its just always true, and always reproven again and again..." She shook her head, still smiling. "You're right, I dont want to miss any moment longer I get to be with you..." her voice was soft and sweet, her eyes matching the tone as they studied Damian's face lovingly.
Richard smiled, his eyes sparkling as he stood, knealing next to her chair nad taking her chin lightly to look at him. "Lorey there's a whole universe out there waiting for you and me. Out there somewhere is our dream. It'll be perfect and just for us, and I promise you...I swear to you now Lorey, good God, nothing is going to stop us,..." He had such a vigorous determination behind his eyes, just daring anyone to stand between his and Loreys dreams...

"I think our next moment spent together should be for breakfast," he said with his little grin. "Waffles. And sausage. My stomach feels so empty right now..."
Though his heart felt full to bursting, just looking at her there, with him after a night spent being together.
Once again she gave him a long look before smiling and laughing a little.
"You're right. Nothing will stop us. But I have one more question for you, Richard."
Lorey took the hand holding her face and placed it between her two smaller, paler ones. They were rough, but strong, and the rest of her would follow suit as soon as she learned to relax.
"Will you marry me, Richard Mentaro?"
