"I can't," Arlen said, tensing up. "He locked her in a room and Tomo and Jake had to go rescue her while I was wearing myself out with pushups!"

"Because you don't have control yet." Lily told him, frowning as she stood. "Like me. Doing pushups is where Master Guan thinks you should be, and I'd think you'd trust him. I'm going to get some water, do you want anything?"

"I thought I could to," Arlen said, standing as well, anger clear in his voice. "But all he has me do is work until I'm exhausted. What if something happens to you next time and I can't do anything about it!?"

Lily looked away for a moment, then back at Arlen, a sad smile on her face. "Until you learn to control your power and your temper, there isn't much you could do about it even if Master Guan wasn't working you so hard." Then she turned and went to the kitchen, shaking her head.

Arlen felt terribly hurt, he always did when he did something to upset lily. His anger and even the cause for ti forgotten, he flopped back onto the couch, unfortunately on the verge of wallowing in sel pity again.
Guan sighed quietly from where he was listening just out of sight at the top of the stairs. It had come far too close to Arlen tapping into the wrong ability in the wrong way again. If Lily hadn't... he shook his head to rid himself of the thought. He'd have to some up with a different strategy for training Arlen. Quietly he walked back to his room to think further on the matter.

Lily came back out several minutes later, two mugs of hot chocolate in her hands as she went back to Arlen. "Here... I thought you might want some too." she offered quietly, her peace offering as she watched him carefully, a small, hesitant smile on her lips.

"Thanks," Arlen said softly, taking the mug without looking at her face, afraid to see her upset. He sat quietly, holding the mug and mentally scolding himself for getting angry like that.

When he didn't look at her, Lily sighed and leaned in to kiss his cheek, fairly certain that now he was angry at her. She sank to the floor beside him, then wrapped her free arm loosely around the nearest leg, leaning against it as she sipped her drink.

Arlen set his untouched drink aside and moved to the floor beside Lily, wrapping his arms around her. "I'm sorry," he whispered into her ear, sounding painfully depressed.

"No... I'm sorry." Lily whispered back, setting her mug on the floor before returning the hug, hiding her face in his chest. "I... I didn't mean to scold. I'm sorry Arlen..."

Arlen shook his head. "I deserved it," he whispered back, holding her head to his chest and slightly wishing they're places were reversed. "I shouldn't get angry like that."

Almost as if reading his mind, Lily pulled away slightly, then drew him to her, cradling him softly. "You can't help it, love. I know you have a temper... and I want you to know that I'm always on your side, even... even when I do scold."

Arlen let his eyes drift closed as he leaned against Lily gently. "It's gotten worse," he said, a bit afraid. "I... I almost.." he broke off, not wanting to continue.
