Talon You said land. Land is land. Yes... I was talking about land for you to live on... way to take things out of context. And no, land isn't just land. There is property value... /facepalm WHAT.

It doesn't matter? That's not what I was talking about... I was saying that having land to live on isn't all that important since you can live on land you don't own in it's entirety... @_________@ You're bring up things that are irrelevant.

YamiKreuz Actually, if they start a fire, your insurance should cover it and/or the buildings insurance would... Just as if you had your own house, and your neighbors caught fire and it spread. Is it more likely that the fire will spread to your home if you live in an apt? Yes. However... It's really unlikely and kind of obscure to have it be a reason as to why wanting a house is a 'sensible view of a necessity' over a luxury.
Insurance can't bring back all the gifts my friends have given me over the years, or the things I've collected that have personal meaning to me like my BJD's. Yes, I could replace the physical doll but it wouldn't be the same. Insurance also can't revive the dead if the fire/smoke kills me or one of my pets; my neighbors lost five pets to a house fire when I was little, it's been a paranoia of mine ever since.
When I said 'pay for it' I didn't really mean in a monetary sense; and even as far as that goes, insurance companies will go out of their way to screw you over and give you as little as possible neutral
Also if you're in an apartment and not on the first floor, it doesn't even need to be the fire that kills you. Just the smoke coming up through the floor can be fatal.

Again, yes that COULD happen. Just like a plane crashing onto your HOUSE. I mean. It's an unlikely scenario, and if -you- are worried about that and that is why you would prefer a house, than ok, I can see why you would want a house; but that is very much a personal ... concern? And NOT a general way to determine whether or not having a house is a sensible necessity over a luxury-- is what I was saying. Having a house, unless you are PARANOID ABOUT SOMETHING SPECIFIC, is really not a NECESSITY for Americans.
