Not all apartments have restrictions on pets. And with a penthouse, you'd only hear your neighbors through the floor.

I'd still prefer a house. A house with a fenced in yard is easier to deal with when you have dogs that need out every few hours.

Disposable income is money you have to spend on frivolous things. Living accommodations don't qualify for that.
It's what you have left after bills / taxes / childcare costs etc etc etc.

♦ ♣ ♥ ♠'needing a house' because 'you have animals' is very much frivolous. people do not 'need' a house. apartment is perfectly livable, and yeah. having your own land is really not necessary unless you are living with various frivolous things.

Owning land isn't necessarily about having a place to keep stuff. Owning property is an easy way to make money.

Having a HOUSE isn't a necessity, but having a place to live is.
And it's not even strictly about the animals. I just dislike the thought of living in a small apartment or penthouse or condo, as I said earlier. I don't want my neighbors right up my a** because if they do something stupid (like start a fire) then I'm going to have to pay for it.

I hate that I can hear what's going on in the building. And that other people might be able to hear me. I don't mind the small space though. It feels cozy.

Actually, if they start a fire, your insurance should cover it and/or the buildings insurance would... Just as if you had your own house, and your neighbors caught fire and it spread. Is it more likely that the fire will spread to your home if you live in an apt? Yes. However... It's really unlikely and kind of obscure to have it be a reason as to why wanting a house is a 'sensible view of a necessity' over a luxury.
