Kaegan grunted. "He choked you?" He tilted his head to look at Tsurai's neck for the tell tale signs of strangulation- fingermarks and bruising. But he couldn't see the line that Tsurai's dogtags had made underneath his collar.
He paused, trying to find the best, most delicate way of answering Tsurai's questions. This.. was going to be difficult.
Kaegan had heard from the townsfolk why Tsurai and Isiah were so infamous when they had arrived here. Killing a drug dealer and stealing his wares was not something that made someone else seem trustworthy, or approachable. It made them seem.. opportunistic, like vultures or hyenas.
In addition to the reputation they had gained, Tsurai.. had been noted as a loose cannon, someone who would go off on anyone, friend or foe- Braeden has been there to attest to that, and in short, pained bits and pieces, Isiah had told Kaegan of the pain he'd gone through trying to raise Tsurai to normalcy. It's hard to ditch a violent past. No, not hard. Nearly impossible.
"Tsurai... People don't remember good things these days. I don't think they ever did. What we remember- what we are genetically programmed to remember- are instances where we were in pain, or in danger. When people see you, they don't see you as you are now, they see you as you were then, and it makes them nervous." Kaegan felt like he was ill equipped to try to pass judgement on Tsurai. He hadn't been there for the indiscretions. "And you shouldn't trust everybody. Some people aren't trustworthy. And they'll hurt you if you make the mistake of thinking they are.." Tangent. "But you need to understand that it is going to take time, lots of time, before people are able to forget the old you and recognize who you are today. Accept that. Make it a point to prove everyone's beliefs about you wrong, and it'll happen. Trust me."

Tsurai growled. "It takes time for everything! What if I run out of time?" The boy grabbed his dogtags and pulled the chain up to his ears, trying to take them off, although it was obvious his head was too big and his chain too small. And with nothing in sight that could take the chain apart manually, pulling it off seemed the only option.
Even as Tsurai was trying, the red lines around his neck were faint and hardly visable under the high collar of the shirt he was wearing. "Sometimes I really wish I didn't have these damn.. Things! I'm not a criminal!" His ears were beginning to hurt, and he gave up on it, dropping the chain with a growl, the tags inevitably falling back under his shirt with a few clinks of metal tag on blank metal tag.
"Even Braeden did bad s**t and I trust him, now. If we don't trust people, how will anything ever be done?"
Tsurai glared at the ground, "Even when people beat other people into submission, there's still trust involved in the whole thing."

Kaegan frowned, advancing on Tsurai, pulling a buck knife from it's sheath on his belt before turning the blade toward himself. He took Tsurai's shoulder gently, pulling him forward, pushing the dull side of the knife up Tusrai's neck, pulling the knife toward himself to snap the chain, the tags falling down onto the ground.
"Braeden didn't kill anybody. At least, nobody knows if he did. Tsurai, you're young. You've got a lot more time."

Tsurai went rigid at the sight of another blade, a firm frown on his face until he figured out what Kaegan was doing. Letting otu a relieved sigh, he bent over to take the chain from the grounf, holding the blank tags in his left hand. "That's what Alex said," He leaned back, letting himself sit on the ground, at Kaegan's feet. "Nobody ever has a lot of time."

Kaegan shook his head back and forth. "What you need to think about.. is whether what people you don't know think about you is important or not." He shrugged nonchalantly. "If it is, then you have to wait until your old reputation and image dies. If not.. then you can start being happy now."
He tucked the knife back to where it belonged, smiling weakly. "Your choice."

"I care about what Connor thinks because.. He's with Isiah.. And I really care about what Isiah thinks. I mean," Tsurai started rubbing the tags with his thumb, "If Connor just goes and tells Isiah about all the crap DuPloys do, and Isiah just believes him because that's what boyfriends do, where would I be? I wouldn't ever get to be his friend again. ANd Isiah is the only good friend I ever had."
Tsurai sighed and stood up, shoving the necklace in his left pocket. "Isiah always tries to teach me-- Stuff... And Connor already comes in and makes me feel like an idiot about trying to learn things. Is it so bad that I want to learn stuff?" He looked up at Kaegan. "It's bad to be ignorant, isn't it?"

Kaegan shook his head minutely. "Tsurai, Isiah's not stupid. He knows you for you, and not for what family you came out of. Blood doesn't mean much to any denzien worth his weight." He pat his arm gently.

Tsurai gave out a slight groan. "Thanks, I guess." He lifted up his right hand to rub his neck, feeling naked without the weight of the metal on him. While rubbing his neck, he looked over to the other Denziens around, doing their own things.
"I'm sorry.. For... Yelling like that." After this, Tsurai shoved his hands in his pockets, looking at the ground, as if waiting to be dismissed again.

Kaegan sighed. "Tsurai, you're too old to act like this. I think you know that." He paused, wondering why Tsurai was still standing there uncomfortably. "You can go now. You don't need my permission."

"I don't know how old I am. I think I'm still eighteen. I have no sense of time..." Tsurai looked down and kicked a rock. "Thanks, anyway."
With that, he began walking back to Braeden's, kicking the rock the whole way.

Kaegan wagged his head wearily. He didn't think Tsurai was all that young...
Braeden was sleeping when Tsurai arrived, snoring lightly, face down into his cot. His fingers twitched every few seconds or so as if he were having a brief dream during REM.

Tsurai came inside and looked to Braeden wearily. The boy sat on the free cot for a moment, staring at the ground. A minute later, however, he got up and took his hands from his pockets, gently shaking Braeden. "Hey braeden. Hey! Wake up, will you? I need to ask you something important."
The funny thing was, the question had nothing to do with Denziens.

Braeden grunted and twitched, instintually raising his fist within milimeters of Tsurai's face in a quick upward movement before coming into conciousness. He lowered his hand, groaning in his chest. "What?"

Tsurai had instinctively brought his hand up to catch the fist, but apparently didn't need to, so was left with his hand infront of his face for a short while.
Putting it down, he said again, "I have a question I need to ask you."
Taking a deep breath, Tsurai began, "Before. When yous aid that thing about hitting the nail on the head. Well.. Uh... Am I gay?" Tsurai frowned, confused. "How do yout ell if you're... Gay...?"

Braeden turned his face back into the cot, shutting his eyes tightly and groaning. "I don't know, kid! How the hell would I know?!" He turned his face back sideways before sitting up, releasing a deep sigh. "You wanna ******** men?"
