Marcus looked down. "I think I'll stay here, if you don't mind," he mumbled. What a selfish cretin he was. And where was the host? "Do you remember what happened?"

Terryn shook her head. "Not all of it. I remember a fight and I think I stabbed someone in the shoulder...I do not remember who."
"If I may, sir." He handed Marcus a damp towel for Terryn and bowed his head. "If the lady says she stabbed one of her assailants perhaps we should examine the servants. If any of them has the wound, then they must have been the one responsible. If not..." He shrugged. "Perhaps it was just a trespasser."

Marcus, not seeing another option, nodded. It was clear that he wasn't very pleased, and he pressed the cloth lightly to Terryn's face. She seemed to be recovering, in any case. Her speech was less slurred, and there was more of it. "There's a draft in here," he noted, looking around at the uninviting stone walls. "Are you strong enough that I could take you upstairs?"

Terryn clutched her stomach, not feeling very well at all. "I suppose." She didn't want to make a fuss, so she tried her best to get to her feet, which really didn't turn out that well, since she just fell to her knees again.

Marcus lifted her carefully in his arms, opting to ignore the host for the present. Without a word, he tossed the towel on his shoulder and carried Terryn upstairs. She slipped from his arms only after they had reached the bedroom, and Marcus let her lie on the bed while he rummaged in her drawers for some clothing that looked comfortable.

Terryn was feeling rather chilled from being in the basement the entire time. She pulled the sheets around her, her body and head aching and her stomach still hurting from whatever they stuck in her.

Marcus set out a warm-looking blouse and a gown. They clashed horribly, but Marcus didn't seem to notice. "Could you dress yourself?" he asked, feeling awkward. In any case, the question seemed necessary to ask.

"In a moment." Terryn shut her eyes, the light making her head hurt even more. "I need to sleep."

Marcus nodded faintly. He took a seat next to Terryn. "I'm--" He took a deep breath, not exactly sure what he was going to say, but absolutely certain that he was going to say it. "I'll never leave you again," he said finally.

Terryn shrugged weakly. "You had work, it is not your fault." She sighed. "I let myself get caught off guard. I should have been smarter."

He hadn't meant it in exactly that context, and he took Terryn's hand. It was cold, and suddenly Marcus had to ask. "What you said yesterday, Terryn. About how you love--loved me." It was harder to say the words when he wasn't joking. "Do you still think so?"

Terryn looked up at him, her eyes looking tired. "This is not the time, Marcus."

"But how were you so certain?" Marcus asked, unwittingly holding her hand more tightly than before. "How did you know? How could you tell?"

Terryn shrugged. "I just did." She felt very tired, very disconnected and far off.

Marcus's eyebrows drew together, and he felt almost disappointed. Did that mean that he couldn't possibly love Terryn, since he felt so uncertain? "Alright," he said finally, looking down and kissing her atop the head.
