Only time would tell, but time was wasting! And thus, Ryugi would exit the Inn and head out of town in the direction of The City. On his way out, he'd make a quick stop at a vendor to buy some sweet bread for a morning meal, and another stop at the fountain to fill a canteen of water for the trip. Being a well-traveled adventurer, Ryugi knew it was always a good idea to bring water along on a trip, even if you didn't think you'd need it. After he was finished, he'd stand up and start walking again towards one of the town's exits and trade routes. He'd turn to Max after a short while and offer him the second football-sized loaf of sweet bread.

Here's one of several Angaran Traveling Tips. Always share your sweet bread with a traveler heading the same direction you are. That way you're always sure to have a traveling companion, and possibly make a new friend too.

After giving the bread to Max, Ryugi would take a bite of his own, the sweetness of the pastry energizing him.

The sugar also gives a quick boost of energy, and the carbohydrates offer a longer release of energy for the traveler. It makes for a good traveling food for early morning starts, as long as you have a little water to wet your mouth every now and again.

Ryugi would chuckle and take another bite of his breakfast.

Water! Genius!

For all the time he spent in the desert it was almost shameful that Maximos didnt ask for it before hand. But, he didnt hesitate to scoop up a ball of black from beside the fountain, the mass warbling and wobbling before forming into an average looking black canteen which he heartily filled.

Maximos just took to taking in the city one last time as Ryugi purchased the bread, and soon they were off. A few minutes later, he verily accepted the bread with a bright...

Thank you!

And smiled and nodded as the dragon shared a bit of traveling information, something also very valuable. Maximos examined the bread for a moment, a faint glow of his right eye, examining the bread for magical properties just before taking a nice healthy bite. It was good! Very good! Lucind made something like this, but not the same at all. This one had a bit more pep, and more tang too it. Of course, once the some came out strong his thirst would devour him if not for a sip of water.

You sound like you've traveled like this alot, have you explored any of the rest of Gaia like this too?

Maximos
You sound like you've traveled like this alot, have you explored any of the rest of Gaia like this too?
Ryugi would nod and take another hearty bite of his sweet bread before chewing, swallowing, and answering.

When I was younger working as a mercenary, and even before that when I was searching for Ragnarok, I did ALOT of traveling and exploring. I knew all about Angara, but ONLY Angara when I left here. So, being young and curious, I spent a great deal of time trying to learn about the rest of the world. I've been to nearly every spot on the mainland Gaian Continent, and even visited some of the other smaller continents and islands too. There aren't many areas in the world I don't know about, or have heard stories of in my travels.

Ryugi smiled and took another bite of his breakfast. He loved spending months or even years simply wandering and exploring everything he came across. When you live as long as a dragon, a year or two isn't much time, and just meant that he didn't feel like he had to rush or hurry his exploring.

Impressive!

Maximos said, taking a second large bite of his bread before slipping it into his pack. He never had much of a huge morning appetite, just the strong desire to snack throughout the day, it was hearty, tasty bread, it would last a few more minutes until his appetite came back.

It really shows!

He said with a nod. And it did, such knowledge of flora and fauna, little helpful tips, it all added up. But something else caught his ear.

I didnt know you were a mercenary. For who?

Well, that really mattered on the job. I'd help whomever needed me most. Of course, I wasn't your usual mercenary with no heart for whatever cause. I'd only pick and choose assignments that I thought were the right thing to do. I saved towns from mobs attacking them, acted as a guard, would do odd jobs for certain individuals, mainly things of that nature. Made and lost a good friend doing that too... But after a while, during some downtime, I happened upon Leviathan Stadium, and I've been there ever since.

Ryugi chuckled and commented.

Mercenary turned Stadium Bum. Who'd have thought I'd ever wind up as a fighter there. But hey, thats life for you. Its always giving you all kinds of twists and turns.

I used to have a job like that.[/color

Maximos said, with a small smile.

I was adventurer, I had a rag tag band of heroes. I set out to explore the whole of my world, righting wrong where it lie.

He nodded, taking a small sip of his water.

We fought for years against a particular threat to our world's safety. A rather mysterious and unknown Dark Lord. And after about 6 years we finally confronted him.

Maximos would try very effectively to make it sound like he was simply telling an old memory, and not the largest tragedy of his life.

We managed to free him of the being that was controlling him, but in those final moments he tore open a rift into the void between dimensions sucking us each into the nothing. I think because I was practically made of magic then, and I survived, landing on Gaia.

He laughed, running a loose hand through his hair.

Wanna be Hero turned Stadium Bum.

He chuckled a bit, back in the day he had no money and no house he was literally a stadium bum.

Twists and turns indeed.

Sounds like you're quite the hero for your world, Max. In a way, I guess this little adventure of our own is kinda like reliving some of the nicer moments from our pasts eh? Exploring with a good friend, beautiful landscapes, interesting foods, all the stories...

Sometimes I wish I could adventure more, but as I've explored much of this world, there isn't much left to really do that in. I suppose thats one of the downsides to living as long as my species does.

Ryugi didn't seem upset by this, but Max might catch a glint of sadness over his person before it faded quickly.

After you've explored everything there is to explore in the world, what does an adventurer like me turn to? Oddly enough, I did some thinking on that...

Ryugi would grin and take another bite of his bread.

Perhaps.

Maximos said, taking another sip of water.

Or perhaps no one ever got the chance to know what we all did. I try not to think of it, it makes me homesick. Either way, your entirely right. Its a beautiful chance to wander down memory lane, and I couldnt think of a better friend to do it with.

He smiled brightly, honestly. He had no way of really expressing it, but Ryugi would have fit perfectly in that old group, when Maximos' view on the world was almost exactly as bright and cheery, and idealistic as the dragons!

Maybe...

Maximos said, the faint glow in his right eye picking up traces of gray...sadness, flickering in the flame of Ryugi's aura.

...its a new adventure, if your sharing it with someone new? Perhaps in that, the adventure wouldnt be finding new places, but having new experiences with new people in those places.

He scratched the back of his head a bit.

You know?

I suppose you're right. Maybe it isn't the material thats important, but the journey itself that makes it interesting.

Ryugi would smile a bit, his hint of sadness gone as quickly as it had arrived. New journeys eventually led to new friends and new experiences. So maybe the journey itself was what was most important.

You know, I'd thought about opening a weapon shop at some point?

Ryugi would place the remained of his bread in his pack for now, he was getting full anyway. And he'd then chuckle a little to himself.

Now that was a subject close to the Shadow's heart.

Really?!

Maximos said, looking intently at Ryugi almost as if trying to see if he could see his skills, which was of course impossible.

You must be really good?

He smirked, proudly, deciding to add a bit information.

You know, my father was a Blacksmith.

Maximos never learned the trade, and despite the popularity of Shadowsmithing in the later years of the curse, the forged weapons were never really effective against light mages, and Maximos never really learned the art.

Ryugi looked sheepish.

Well, I can't really claim I'm THAT good. I've just always liked weapons, especially bladed weapons. My father was a farmer, so I didn't get any formal training on it from him, but through my younger years I watched intently while visiting weapon-smiths. The only real "smithing" of my own was the work on your arm weapons, which you gave to D. But I've always been interested in the crafting of weapons, and attaching abilities to them. Its always fascinated me.

Ryugi's eyes looked dreamy almost as he walked and talked, continuing along the road.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2007 1:37 am

You did that?

Maximos said with a shocked smile. D loved those, and even Maximos had to regard their quality, not many things can survive the sort of beating D put them through and still look flawless. Ryugi had done good.

Those are amazing. Their amazingly durable, and yet finely crafted. Masterful work!

He nodded gingerly, without a good friend here this was just a plain road. With Ryugi it was an awesome memory.

Enchanting really is a fun thing, with your natural magical talent I'm sure you'll be great at it.

He smiled from ear to ear, entirely genuine. And then an idea dawned on him, something that really made him smile.

Maybe you could make me something?

Ryugi looked back to his friend with a slightly shocked look, and more than a little surprise evident across his features.

I'd be honored! But... I don't think I'm that skilled. I just reforged the original work of the blades to repair them. Its not like I made the blades from scratch or anything.

Ryugi didn't think his skill was that amazing yet. Over time, it could grow, but he didn't think it was high enough to make a finely crafted weapon at the moment.

Now, he was just being humble. And as admirable a trait as that was, Maximos simply couldnt have that. He tilted his head to the side somewhat, making eye contact with Ryugi.

Dont you know?

He said with his trademark friendly tone, and a smirk.

Its what you put into a weapon that makes it great...

He shook his finger as if shaking away any misconception.

...not what comes out in the end. Though...

He brought the finger in, tapping his chin.

...when you put in the right things from here, and here...

With the same finger he pointed at Ryugi's chest, obviously symbolizing his heart. And his head.

...what comes out is usually amazing.

Ryugi grinned a bit and looked back to the road ahead.

Well, if you really want me to try and make you a sword, I suppose I could. I guess the sentimental value enough would make it worth having.

He'd chuckle, continuing to walk.
