 Jackson won his only Coach of Year award in 1996, when Bulls posted an NBA-record 72 regular-season wins before winnin' title. That season was notable not only for unprecedented dominance but also for presence of Dennis Rodman, acquired in a preseason trade from San Antonio.

 Influenced by his longtime assistant Tex Winter (right), Jackson came to rely on triangle offense. Not many teams use pass-n'-cut, read-n'-react offense consistently, but then, Jackson is known to go against grain. He's lectured his players on Zen Buddhism, given them books to read on road trips n' brought in a stress-relief specialist to offer them breathin' lessons. "I've never known anybody to handle crisis the way Phil does," Winter told SI. "He's able to read the big picture and not let the emotions of the moment control him."

 In a season billed as "Last Dance," Bulls won their 6th championship under Jackson when Jordan famously made go-ahead jumper in closin' seconds of Game 6 of 1998 NBA Finals at Utah. Jordan retired for a 2nd time after season, while Jackson took a year off from coachin' n' Pippen was traded, sendin' Bulls into full-scale rebuildin' mode.

 Jackson returned to coachin' in June 1999 with Lakers, who had just been swept by San Antonio in 2nd round of playoffs in Kobe Bryant's 1st season as a starter n' Shaquille O'Neal's 3rd season with club. Jackson went on to win championships in his 1st 3 seasons in Los Angeles before Shaq-Kobe relationship unraveled.

 3 titles in L.A. gave Jackson 9 for his coachin' career, tyin' him with Red Auerbach for most all time. But he briefly put his quest for No. 10 on hold after 2003-04 season when he opted not to return to Lakers, who traded Shaq in offseason n' retooled around Kobe. A year later, however, Jackson was back coachin' Lakers, bringin' with him NBA's all-time best winnin' percentage of more than .700.

 Jackson's longtime girlfriend, Lakers vice president Jeanie Buss, played a role in persuadin' him to return for a 2nd stint with team. He reportedly received a 3-year, $30 million contract, which expires after 2007-08 season.

Here's a tribute gallery for Legendary Coach Eddie Robinson  Eddie Robinson was hired by Grambling State University, a historically black college in rural Louisiana, in 1941. In his 2nd year at school, Grambling went 9-0 n' didn't give up a single point.

 When Grambling beat Prairie View A&M 27-7 on Oct. 5, 1985, Robinson earned career win No. 324, passin' Paul "Bear" Bryant as winningest coach in college football history.

 Robinson received a call from President Bill Clinton after becomin' 1st college football coach to win 400 games.

 Robinson finished his career with a record of 408-165-15 durin' his 57 years at Grambling. He won 17 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships n' had a streak of 27 consecutive winnin' seasons (1960-86).

 Known as a hands-on coach n' a great motivator, Robinson sent more than 200 players to NFL, includin Super Bowl XXII MVP Doug Williams.

 Robinson's last game came in Bayou Classic on Nov. 29, 1997. Grambling lost to Southern University 30-7.

 Robinson was inducted to College Football Hall of Fame shortly after he retired.
