Andarien was amazed by the gears on the cupcakes, and despite the fact that he wasn't really a sweets person, he wanted to try one. Just because it had gears on it.
"Nana, can I have one of those?" he asked eagerly, pointing at the cupcakes. "Please?"

"Of course," Lin smiled, "It was made with you in mind."
She knew how Triton worked, and she was pretty certain that was why her mother had asked Andarien what flavours she liked.
Poor Triton had been at a lost really, the reason why he settled on cupcakes was because he still wanted it to look nice but there was no way he could put icing on an maple apple cake, it would be too sweet and icing and fruit cake wouldn't have worked in his mind.
Lin handed Andarien a small plate and put a cupcake on it, while putting a three on hers, one for her grandfather, one for Earendil and one for herself. There were fruit tarts off to the side, which she would grab one for her grandmother and then there were white peach shape buns with pink tops, which Miyuki had requested earlier.

"And something for Eon!" Andarien said firmly, looking uncertainly at the table of desserts.
After a moment of looking at everything, he asked hesitantly, "Is that fruit in those things? Is that okay for Eon?" He pointed at the fruit tarts to show Lin what he was asking about.

"Those are fruit tarts, but they have custard at the bottom...."
And Lin wasn't sure if the Eevee could have anything with milk or egg for that matter. So instead she pointed to the slice melons that had been left for desert, but not put out for the main course.
"How about some watermelon instead? There's also honeydew and cantaloupe as well. Eon might like those."

Andarien sighed with relief and nodded. "Will you help me get some?" he asked, looking up at Lin with anxious eyes. "I have to hold my plate so that I don't drop anything ..."
He knew Lin was also holding a plate, but she seemed more skilled at balancing it. He had nothing but a cupcake on his plate now, and he seemed to be having a bit of trouble keeping even just that flat on the plate.

Lin nodded at this as she grabbed a fruit tart and a bun from one the serving plates before leading Andarien over to where the melons were. They were sliced thin so people could take some of each without getting over full. She used tongs to put a few slices of each melon on Andarien's plate.
"Will you be alright carrying that back?" she asked.

Andarien looked up at Lin, a hurt expression on his face.
"I'm a whole year old now," he told her in a matter-of-fact tone of voice. "I won't trip and drop it!"
He made very sure to be extremely careful as he carried the plate back to where their seats were.

"I know, but I just wanted to make sure you were fine," Lin replied softly.
She withheld a chuckle, because he really was overly sensitive, and that moment just proved it.

"I'm fine," Andarien confirmed.
He sucked in his breath as his plate wobbled, and his brow furrowed as he concentrated on keeping it steady. Then he kept going, more slowly now, step by step until at last he arrived at the table where everyone was sitting.
"I did it!" he said proudly, setting the plate on the table. Once the plate was safe, he scrambled up onto his chair - but knocked one knee against the edge of it. "Ow," he muttered, climbing up more carefully now.

Lin chewed her lower lip at that, go figure he would injure himself by accident the moment he got the plate to the table. She set the plate she had down in the middle handing off the treats to their respective person.
Miyuki took her bun, but took a moment to look at the edible fake leaf pasted to the bottom of the bun before taking a bite from it.
Long and Mi thanked her for their treats, and Long grinned from ear to ear as he cut his in half and then cut Mi's in half so they could have a bit of both without having too much.
Earendil, also got his own cupcake to try.

Earendil accepted the cupcake with a smile and a "thank you" and waited for Lin to settle in with her own dessert before he also bit into his.
Likewise, Andarien took his own cupcake off the plate before putting the plate down on the ground for Eon to have his dessert, too.
"There you go," he grinned at his pokemon. "I hope you like it! Nana says it's good for you."
Eon squeaked at Andarien before settling down with his dessert.
Andarien then turned his attention to his own cupcake, but he found that, as he unwrapped it to take his first bite, he found he didn't want to. It was almost too pretty to eat. He loved the gear on it ...
"Nana," he said, turning to Lin again, "is there a way I can keep the gear?"

Lin looked over at Andarien and shook her head, "It's just powdered sugar dusted over a cut out to get that image Andarien.
"There's no way to keep that."
She could only imagine how careful Triton had to be to do that.

"Oh." Andarien looked back at the cupcake and shrugged. Well, it had been worth a try.
He bit into it and, after briefly registering a sweet taste, coughed on the powdered sugar. He put the cupcake down for a moment and, eyes watering, reached for his drink.
"Whoa," he said, blinking up at Lin once he was breathing properly again. "That was tickly!"

"Are you okay? I forgot to mention that the sugar is really fine, so be careful not to breath it in as you bite," Lin patted Andarien's head.
She had done that a few times as a kid and sometimes as an adult when she was too enthuse with what she got.
"I've done that to cookies rolled in that stuff," she admitted.

Andarien rubbed the tears from his eyes with the back of one wrist.
"I'm okay," he assured Lin. "I just have to remember not to do that again. It tickled but it kind of hurt, too."
And he didn't like not being able to breathe, either.
He picked up the cupcake again and took another bite, a small, tentative bite this time, careful not to breathe as he took the bite. This time he got the full taste of the cupcake, and he couldn't help but smile widely at it.
"Yummy," he murmured as he settled in to eat the rest.
