"Hm," he said "I'm not sure whether to be completely unsurprised that you let him get away or impressed that you actually managed to mark him."

Realising that he was still holding the piece of paper, he handed it back over to them. "Well, I'd better go have a look at the scene of the crime."

Jessie then turned and moved away, expecting the two to follow him. "Tell me, what was stolen? Did the thief have any other distinguishing marks, or leave anything behind...?"

The sun was steadily arching through the sky, banishing the chill morning frost and it would soon reach the apex of midday in a few more hours. To say it had been a horrific night would be too much. Comfortably numb and empty-headed, that too familiar man sat out on the rocks on the beach, watching the waves. Having had already many hours to himself to wrestle with the outcome of the night's events, he sat with an arm wrapped around a leg, one bare foot stretched out before him. He yawned widely before his mouth again formed a dour frown and he cocked his head to the side to look above.

The sea gulls flocked around him and circled overhead like vultures, making a general noisy nuisance of themselves, but for now did only seem to be on the verge of violence - like they have for many hours. So long as he did not make any sudden movements, the gulls stayed where they are, only occasionally trying to perch on his head.

They followed.

"Well... he had a cloak and a hood on so we couldn't really see his face. But now that I think about it, he was kinda small..." the guard tapped at his chin. "The weirdest part was that he only took a trident away with him. Standard model, too. Nothing particularly special." he turned to his partner. "Hey, was there anything else?"

The guard crossed his arms, face twisting in thought. "Hrrmm... Could have sworn there was somethin'..." It took a few more minutes of bothersome grumbling before he snapped. "AH! Yes! Tha's it!" he exclaimed, digging his hands into his pockets for the item in question, offering it to the drow. "Here ya' go, Cap'n."

Harata wandered out of the jungle. She had spent the night sleeping up a tree, though the dreams she had were unpleasant. ((Insert dream from dreams forum)))
She reached the shore, and began wandering down the beach. She saw the mass of seagulls, but not the man. There must be something interesting there. She shrugged, and stripped off, swimming.

Jessie stopped and looked down at the item in question. It was a glove... just a single brown glove, nothing particularly special about it. Rather small, though. Made, perhaps, for a woman's hand...

Something niggled him, and he frowned, taking the glove. The moment he touched it, he knew what had bothered him. This glove was too familiar to him. It, or perhaps its twin, had been sitting on the desk in his living room for several hours the day before.

His heart lurched. But no, it couldn't be... could it?

"Small, you say?" he said, managing to keep his voice level and detached. "About this tall, maybe?"

He gestured with his hand to an area around his chest. He didn't want them to agree with him. And yet it was as if many small things were slotting into place in his mind, stretching back as far as their first sparring session... and a horrible feeling of realisation was fast stealing over him.

"Sure. I'm not really going to be doing any important though. Just walking in and out." He walked along the side of the wall, feeling it.

The texture is weird. It's not something erosion would do to rock, but a machine...?

He paused and touched the part of the wall he was next. He felt it, then he pressed his ear against it.

... Odd... Could this... Maybe I should break it do-... Now, that'd be reckless. It's only a theory, I'll confirm it some other way later.
He continued deeper in. The rocks got more slippery and the air tasted saltier.
Bapp found himself at the end of the cave, where the tunnel that led to the sea was.
He dived into the water and took a look around under the water's surface.
Soon, he climbed back up on land.

"I wonder if the Order has any records of this cave..."

The guards narrowed their eyes and stared at the drow's hand. Then, glancing at each other in reassurance, they turned to the Captain. "It was dark so it was hard to tell, but comparing it to the trident's height..." Wow, one of them was actually capable of logical thought. Who knew? "...Yeah, just about."

“So I cried, and I begged for you to Love me love me say that you love me...”
White Mage Kyo Christmas
Kyo awoke to the still silence of the morning. He felt around the bed to see if the Overseer had returned just to find himself all alone. Slipping out of the bed, still dressed in his silk robe, he made his way upstairs to see Acolytes buzzing around looking worried. Pushing passed them he made his way to Lori's. “What is going on, “ he asked quietly.
"...leave me leave me just say that you need me I can't care about anything but you."

She hadn't come back to training with her weapon, had she?

She'd stayed up all night sorting through that pile of weaponry.

The mock-up weapon during the fight with Harata.

The strange conversation last night.

Her absence at the training grounds that morning.

He was an idiot. She'd reached out to him how many times? He'd asked her what was bothering her how many times? And yet she never had the courage to come to him. She could never bring herself to tell him what was wrong. She... she didn't trust him. The realisation was like... it was like nothing on Gaia.

But... the armory... the break in... why was it necessary?

He suddenly looked piercingly at the two guards, as if he couldn't quite believe what they were saying. His expression, however, came about as a result of his innermost thoughts. "Has a girl been visiting you this week, about that high; light brown hair; greenish-blue eyes?" They looked at him blankly for a moment, and he continued in exasperation "Delicate, heart-shaped face; always looks strained, lost or worried; wears shorts and stockings under the standard robe, usually a shoulder guard and sometimes a scarf?"

User ImageMeta turned around, her platters now half-empty.
"Lorika-sama is sick, it appears. I've been trying to get in to give her some tea; that's the best stuff for nearly all sicknesses. Are you any good at lockpicking?"

With a nod Coline followed Bapp deeper into the cave. This was the tunnel he'd come from, wasn't it? She watched as he felt at the walls, quirking her brow as he pressed his ear against it. As curious as she was, she chose not to question the boy as to not disturb him with... whatever he was doing. There would be time for that later.

They walked on and eventually reached the end of the cave which, as expected, led to the sea. She closed her eyes as she the cool sea breeze brushed against her skin. But that moment of peace was soon disturbed by Bapp brief dive into the water. "Records?" she echoed, toning her voice down into a whisper as she averted her eyes. "I certainly hope not..."

"...What were you looking for, anyway?"

====

"Ohh, that snotty little brat from the Temple. Yeah, we've seen 'er." he sneered. "Dropped by a couple of times. Was really persistent too, said somethin' about losing a tri--"

Their expressions froze and they looked at each other slowly. "You... You don't mean, that little girl..."

"Hah! D-Don't be stupid." he stammered. "You saw how that... that THING rammed through the door last night. Tha's gotta be a full-grown man!" Hesitantly, he turned to the Captain. "I-Isn't that right, sir?"

So, because she couldn't bring herself to ask him for help, she'd been forced to resort to breaking in to find the weapon that was her very own in the first place. And it was all so unneccessary, because the guards weren't posted there to stop acolytes from going in. The armory was open to everyone, for god's sake! Had these dunderheads been denying access to all passer-bys in the absence of any real threat? He groaned inwardly, at himself more than anything. If he'd been a little more careful and precise about who he assigned to such an unimportant position, none of this would have happened...

And then, with a dreadful feeling of sickness, he remembered one of the first things they'd said - how the thief had taken a spear to the leg...

"You IDIOTS!" he yelled, rage suddenly bursting from the well inside him "How DARE you abuse the positions I entrusted to you?! How DARE you lay your hands on my-?!"

The Captain balled his fists and looked down, jaw clenched. He hissed at them vehemently through bared teeth, but was unable to look at their stupid faces directly for fear of what his own sudden hatred may cause him to do. "I ought to take from you each a pound of flesh to make up for the precious, pure blood you have drawn /biu sol whol biu sol, ussta lotha'uss!/ but I shall not. Not unless you give me reason to right at this moment."

He turned abruptly, and marched up the slope by himself. "Consider yourselves dishonourably dismissed from your positions!"

"Nothing in particular." Bapp adjusted his glasses.
"Something about this cave was bothering me, so I thought I should take a look around." He turned back.

"I guess I'll be heading back to the temple now. I'll visit every now and then. Don't stay here too long." He waved to her as he walked.

Once the waves of heat and anger had somewhat abated, Jessie realised that he'd been walking in one direction with no intention of getting anywhere. He stopped, and ran his fingers through his hair. Just what was he going to do now...? It suddenly occured to him that he had no idea where Coline lodged.

Yes... that's right. It was strange for him to think it, but true - she'd always turned up in the mornings of her own accord from no place he knew of, as opposed to the others...

Right. That was first on his agenda the next time he saw her - find out where she lived.

Well. The pendant sat snug in his pocket. Second on his agenda.

Suddenly, he was torn. He'd planned to go into town to pick up some more things for her, but... now, the thought of her alone and wounded was terrifying enough to turn him back towards the Temple, heart in his throat.

When there, he made his enquiries, but only a handful of people knew of a Coline, let alone where she might be found. Their blank or negative reactions made him feel annoyed... and then ashamed of himself more than anything. What had he called her to Lorika some time ago? A little mouse? He'd said it out of annoyance at the Priestess as opposed to Coline, but it had been a despicable thing to say. Though she'd never know about it, he had to make it up to her somehow.

He then sprinted the full way back to the Training Grounds, but of course found himself unlucky. Well, those were the two obvious places searched. All that was left was a full sweep of the Isle.

Somehow he didn't think that the town was a likely place for her... but maybe it was just for that reason she would be there? Or maybe that was just an excuse for him to go and do what he'd been planning to do anyway...

Yeah. He'd make it all up to her somehow. If it meant she could learn to trust him... he would give her everything.
