RINGGGG

The shrill sound of the bell startled Ellie, and she jumped halfway out of her chair. Sounds were so much louder when she was in an actual body, something she still wasn’t used to. She probably wouldn’t ever be used to it. She started gathering her books when she noticed Joseph’s giggle. “What’s so funny?” She asked in vain, since she was certain that he was laughing at her. He let out a breathless nothing that only confirmed this.

“Jerk.” She exaggerated, which only made him laugh more. She just rolled her eyes and headed off towards her next class, as if she didn’t share that one with Joseph. Ellie shared four classes with Joseph, A1, A2, A4, and B3. She was fairly certain she shared more classes with him than any other student, and that was because of simple schedule manipulation. One thing about being a ghost is; you know everything. Therefore, Ellie knew all of Joseph’s classes. Too bad, she only managed to get four of the eight with him, though it was better than having none.

A small tap on her shoulder confirmed that Joseph had managed to catch up with her. She let out a meaningless huff in response. “Come one, you know you can’t stand one moment without me.” Ellie rolled her eyes, such pride, such pride. She had grown used to this though, since it was Joe’s major personality trait. Confident and cocky, it fit her personality perfectly. “I think you think too much of yourself darlin’.”

“Whatever love, you know it’s true.”

“How about you go talk to Nikky, and then I’ll agree with you?”

Joseph shut up at that. They had been having the same repetitive conversation all morning. Ellie wanted Joe to ask Nikky out for the dance, he was too scared to take their friendship to the next level. Ellie would then claim that their friendship was already at the next level, and they couldn’t remain in this maybe-maybe not stage much longer, otherwise the friendship wouldn’t last. Joseph never could find a response to this, but his face always had a strained expression. He knew she was right, but he was still too scared. It was a sad thing.

Ellie opened the door to their next class, and Joseph walked right in. “I don’t know, Juliette, I’m going to have to think about it.” Ellie nodded, and headed towards their desk. She sat down, set up her books, then peered over at Joseph.

“Don’t think too much longer. Alright? Before you know it, she could have another date.”

After several failed attempts at teleporting to the right country Emilia Vivian Groves had finally arrived 5 miles from the school. Although she wasn't sure where she was she had gaven up on trying to teleport again, just as well, who knows where she would have shown up next. She'd already been in the ocean a few times. It was natural to expect this really. After all, two thirds of the earths surface is water. What she feared was teleporting to a volcano or someplace like that. She could die in an instant. No time to teleport away.
She walked for two miles before someone picked her up. She was so tired she accepted the lift. They took her to the town near the school where she'd rested until the morning.
Now she was walking again, toward the school. It was her only hope really. She couldn't stay with her parents, not that they'd take her back now, even if she begged.
She had n one else. She didn't know anyone but her parents and a few of the people who worked at the shopping center.
After hours of walking she could see the school in the distance and quickens her pace. She walks fast, hoping to get to the school before she grows too tired to walk.

Anatomy. Brilliant topic really. All you had to do to pass was memorize; you didn’t have to think deeply to exceed and that was what Thorne liked about it--that, and the fact that every day he learned of new parts of himself to explode. It was a vile and disgusting reason but he took a sick, ironic pleasure from it. He was attending a school to learn how to destroy himself. It was simply paradoxical. Genius Academy was a place where you went to better yourself, and learn to control your powers. Yet the longer Thorne stayed there, it seemed the more he learned to destroy himself in various ways and not with just his powers. The horrible thing about it, however, was that he enjoyed it. He took a sardonic humor from it, which any third-party viewer would find revolting. It was sick. He was sick. Maybe he was mad…

The class bell sounded, interrupting his oh-so-pleasant thoughts and his blank stare out the window. It was a brisk, cloudy day, and the only view had been the occasional breeze moving the tree branches near his window seat, so it was a relief to have an excuse to tear his eyes away from the scene. He gathered his books and left the class pushing his way through the students deaf to any exclamations of pain as he shoved them out of his way as he traveled down the halls, though there had been less of those lately. Mostly when people spotted him they made sure to get out of the way. No one wanted to run into a ticking bomb just waiting to explode.

Ahhh, let’s see. Next on his list of classes was Advanced Power Control. Not too bad. It wasn’t the best class he had, but neither was it the worst. Sighing he traveled the hallways…They all started to look the same after awhile, as did the days. Time just seemed to run on forever, the days bleeding together when there was really nothing interesting to distract yourself with. He popped a couple fingers as he walked ignoring the shocked gazes of passersby. He needed the rush to help keep him awake. It was easy to let your brain and mind dull in a place like this…too easy.

He entered the class slapping his homework on the teacher’s desk before going to his seat. It was the same one he had sat in when he had shared this class with her. Funny how it was easy for him to block everything of her from his mind, but difficult for him to change his routine to accommodate that fact. That fact that she was gone—just like everything else that had been in his life. A short chuckle escaped him, why had he expected it to be any different? That was the irony of life, he guessed. Life liked to give you a glimpse of what you could have, whether it be a girlfriend, a family, popularity, money, fame etcetera, before it snatched it all away. He guessed it was God’s way of passing eternity. It must be boring to always have been, so what better way to make the time go faster than ******** up everyone’s life? It was interesting if not amusing. Humans did it to each other all the time anyways so what made God any different…and that was assuming there was a God, and ever since Thorne discovered his power he wasn’t so sure. What God would condemn someone to explode themselves like a bad, gory horror film? No, he was sure he was more of a product of the devil, if anything. It was the only explanation to this hellish world. And it was with those thoughts, as he zoned out in his desk, that he convinced himself that it was better to be hardhearted than risk the last of his sanity.

Emilia arrives at the school mid-class. She has no idea where to go or what to do. She hadn't really planned beyond escaping the weekly exorcisms, praying to every God and Goddess, changing of her diet, changing her environment and every other treatment her parents could think of for her illness.

She'd been on so many diets, from eating in excess to not eating for days on end. From eating exotic or rich foods to rice with some protein. Her weight shifted with the diets, but she was always too skinny.

The exorcisms changed regularly, before all of this she hadn't realised there were so many different ways to exile spirits, and so many people who believe in it enough to actually turn it into their career. She'd been chained, cut and comforted. Burnt, bruised and battered. She'd been placed of a bed of silk and feathers, and on a bed of nails. Every way of every exorcism, or so she wished. No, there were more out there. She knew that this week, right now in fact, she was meant to drowning until the demon who had poisoned her and given her powers left, or until she was close enough to death that she would need to be brought back.

She glanced around, still standing outside the building. She started walking forward, with no idea where she was heading to. She wanted to be inside. Somewhere safe. Somewhere she could sit down, rest, maybe eat. She walked around the building until she found an entrance. She walked aimlessly for a while and saw a sign for admissions. She followed where the sign told her to go and arrived at the front office.

Before today, Mitsukai had never met someone who could talk this much. She listened to every word Caleb said, feeling more and more upbeat as he talked. He talked about everything, none stop! She found herself becoming entranced. She had never met someone so interesting.

RINGGGGGGG

The sharp sound of the bell made her jump. Obviously, she was too interested in the conversation. She started packing up her books, and looked up to find Caleb, well gone… Shaking her head, she started packing up her stuff, with her mind trying to figure out where to go next. She hadn’t much time to learn her schedule before leaving, and now she had to figure out where to go. Oh, she had advanced power control!

Oh, wait. That was the class she shared with Thorne.

She felt her emotions dampen. Every happy thought that had conjured up in her mind only moments ago was now gone. Power Control was the very last class she had wanted to go to. Nonetheless, she had a class she was forced to attend, and she had to be there early to get her packet. She walked out of the classroom, and into the cluttered hallway. She focused on her steps, one after another, as if it would prevent the events from happening. She couldn’t prevent the inevitable, no matter how hard she’d try. Apparently, she hadn’t tried enough because before she knew it she was standing outside of her teacher’s door.

Mitsukai took a deep breath, and stepped in the almost vacant classroom, every desk was empty, except the one that seated Thorne. While keeping her head down, she approached her teacher, Mrs. Armstrong. The teacher gave her a hesitant smile, as she handed her a gigantic packet. Somehow this one was even larger than the one given to her in the previous class.

“How are you feeling, ya know… since your sister…”

That was the first time she had ever heard Mrs. Armstrong stutter. The caused her to feel all the more conscious, knowing Thorne was probably hearing everything the teacher was saying. She shifted her weight to her other foot, an obvious nervous habit, and forced a smile on her face. “I’m doing alright.” she breathed, feeling more and more conspicuous. The teacher gave her a sympathetic smile; it was all faked, rehearsed. Mitsukai could see the pity burning in her teacher’s eyes.

“We’re always here for you, since…”

“Since my Mother is a selfish b***h, I know. Thanks.”

Mitsukai ignored the teacher’s flinch, and refused the look into her eyes that were burning with even more pity. Though, even as she looked away, she could tell her teacher gave an agreeing nod. It was the undeniable truth. Her Mother was a selfish b***h, one who ran away to Japan instead of staying behind and making sure her daughter was all right. However, that was yesterdays news, something Mitsukai had accepted. One that didn’t need much explaining, nor did it need attention in any way. Therefore, Instead of responding, she turned around and headed towards the back of the classroom, on the opposite side of the classroom as Thorne. She could feel her teacher’s stares boring into her back into her back.

“Umm, Mitsukai?”

She looked up at the teacher, whom looked as if she had some bad news for her. There were a few guesses she could make. Like, there was a textbook she needed, besides their assigned books. Or, possibly she had something gross in her hair. Maybe she had a principles note. Mitsukai braced herself for whatever information the teacher decided to share.

“I’ve kind of assigned seats.”

Oh.
Of course, she did so every year.

“When you first stopped going to class, I assigned you a seat by yourself, since I knew you were so…”

Depressed and all? Yea, she understood. Sitting by herself was exactly what she was planning to do. That way, she could mope by herself. At least, it’d give her an opportunity to ward off any gossip seeking teenagers. Apparently, that wasn’t going to happen. Now, here was the catch! What new student came in?

“Then well, someone came back, and there was only one seat available. I figured it would work anyways, since I heard you two were such great friends…”

Mitsukai scurried her brain for anyone she was such good friends with. There was Kyuubi. Oh, and Nikky shared this class. Even Cadence was in here, although she had never been good friends with her. However, the teacher said the student came back. No one Mitsukai knew left, except Thorne… Suddenly, she couldn’t breathe. Out of all the people in the world she could be assigned to, would she really choose Thorne? They weren’t good friends; half of the school witnessed that. No, no, no! Mrs. Armstrong wasn’t that dumb…

“Well, Your new seat is next to Thorne. It’s your old seat anyways; see how perfectly that worked out?”

The teacher actually had a smile on her face, as if she had convinced herself this was such a great decision. Mitsukai just stared at her blankly, dumbfounded. She gave a very hesitant nod, and slowly walked over to the seat next to Thorne. With every step, she felt as if her heartbeat quickened. She could hardly breathe. Why, why why?! Out of all the kid’s in the class, she had to assign her next to Thorne! Mitsukai actually had friends in this class! It wasn’t fair, it wasn’t fair! She kept repeating those words in her head, as if they could change her fate. Her steps got slower, and her heart beat continued to quicken. In a matter of moments, moments that passed faster than she was ready to accept, she was right in front of her new desk.

Mitsukai looked at Thorne for a second, and peered away just as fast as she set down slowly. It only took a second to make her heart race. Two weeks seemed as forever, yet she could recall it as if it was yesterday. Her screaming at him, losing her mind, and tearing apart her heart. Him, not being there. She took a deep breath and tried to focus on the now. She pulled out her packet of makeup work, and flipped through the pages. Every page was jammed packed with some sort of information dealing with powers. At the moment, nothing in that packet mattered.

[[ Sorry, the post format hurts my eyes too! There was no way to work around it. &, I know the whole assigned seats things doesn’t blend all that well with your post Rachy, butt, I wrote this before you posted and i tried to change it, and even take it out, but it took so much away from the post. ]]

Emilia greeted the woman who walked over to her. "Hello. I'm Emilia Vivian Groves."

The woman smiled. "Are you a student here Emilia?"

Emilia's heart thuds. No. She wasn't a student. She had no legal right to be here. Surely it was private property. "No ma'am. I'd like to join this school."

The woman frowns. "You haven't enrolled?"

"No ma'am." Emilia bows her head. She hadn't had time to plan or enrol. She'd just panicked and run. So unplanned, stupid. Weak. Pathetic. Her mothers voice told her all the reasons she shouldn't have done such a foolish unplanned thing. She thought for a moment about leaving. Running back home, begging for mercy and continuing to work on stopping her powers. Working on being a human.

"One moment please. Have a seat." She motions to the lounges with her hand before walking away to check with the principle about this.

Emilia sat down and waited for some sort of answer. Was she going to have to find her way home? If so, would she be allowed back? And even if she was allowed to stay at this school, what then? There was so much she hadn't thought of. So much left to chance. So much failure.

"Useless. Pathetic. Idiot." Said the voice in her mind. She knew many different reasons it sounded like her mother. A few Freud ideas, many modern psychology ideas and a few spiritual ones. She didn't really believe any of them.

She looked up as someone opened a door. The woman had returned. "Well, it's very unorthodox, but you can stay in the girls dorms for now, and we'll decide what will happen with you after that." The woman smiles encouragingly.

Emilia stands. "Thank you very much ma'am."

She smiles with mirth. "You don't have to call me 'ma'am'. Come on then, follow me. I'll take you to the girls dormitory."

Emilia follows her without speaking.

Hm. Sugar obviously hadn’t cheered Cory up. This was troubling. It was basically his only method. Archie’s mouth twisted thoughtfully. He looked toward Cadence, as if asking ‘What the hell is up?’ but saw no reply in the girl’s eyes. Well. At least Cadence appreciated his doughnuts. …That sounded a bit dirty.

This was agitating him now. Being male, he had an instinct to fix things. If there was something broken he couldn’t fix, it just pissed him off. Since he’d had his power, though, there had been little he had been unable to fix. Of course, that was along the lines of electronics and gadgetry. Human feelings were illogical, impractical, irrational, and not electronic, and therefore unable to be fixed with Archie’s mind. ‘I hate the living,’ he thought sardonically.

Okay. What?

Asking Riah? Who was that? A girl, he presumed. Duh. But he was pretty sure he’d never met anyone named ‘Riah’. A little light bulb flicked on when Cadence mentioned ‘L’, though. He’d never met her, but knew of her, at the very least. Just when he was about to bring up Mitsukunt, Cadence took the words from his mouth. What was that about?

”You do know you can tell us what's really bugging you....We are your friends, that is what friends are for..."

Archimedes rolled his eyes. Yeah, ‘friends’. That’s what Archie would like to call Cory, but he’d sort of been obsessed with his girl lately. Not very friend-like. This pissed him off even more as he let that thought stew. Did Cory even care? Here they were, trying to console him and get him to open up to them, and he was just being difficult. Purposefully. He was like a woman. They did that a lot for some reason.

”Stop trying, Cadence,” Archie cut in, standing back up, leaving the doughnut box in his spot. ”I think our ‘friend’ here just needs some intrapersonal time. “ And he left it at that and promptly discarded Cory from the conversation. Fine. If he just wanted to be depressed and emo and not tell anyone what was up, then fine. Archimedes would let him have that. If he was only interested in being friends when it was convenient for him, then whatever. Maybe he’d eventually get over himself and admit what was bothering him. Archie wasn’t going to spend half an hour trying to coddle him and coax him out of his shell.

In response to Cadence’s question, Archie shrugged. ”I might smoke bomb the dance floor or rig the turn tables to only play the Pokemon theme song, but aside from that, a reason to go I have none. “ He shrugged, thinking about what the dance would be like. Girls in stupid, fluffy dresses; boys in button-downs and fedoras; faculty paddling people for dirty dancing… ugh. Why the hell would he want to be part of that?

For one, Archie didn’t dance. He’d never danced. He wasn’t even sure he knew how. Sure, he had an awkward bout of ‘slow dancing’ at his uncle’s wedding when he was like, eight, but that was just weird. Girls did their disturbing, snakey, ho dances and guys just jumped around a lot and tried to grab some a**. How… distasteful. The food would probably suck too.

For two, he didn’t have anything to wear. The nicest thing he had was a black polo shirt that had the rebel alliance insignia stitched into the breast. He wasn’t a girl and wasn’t going to go to other dudes and ask if he could borrow something, because that would just be gay. He’d have to get undressed around them and try on their clothing to see if it would fit… and their clothes would probably smell like their cologne… and this was definitely gay.

Lastly, Archie didn’t socialize. He had two people he talked to: Cory and Cadence. Apparently Cory was going to do the whole ‘bring a date’ thing and Cadence was a girl. Not that it was a bad thing, but he always found it strange that girls and guys were attracted to each other. Wouldn’t it make more sense to be the opposite? Guys understood guys and girls understood girls. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have same-sex couples? It seemed like there would be a lot less clashing. Well, it was just a thought. Probably something stupid.

”Are you going, lady fair?” Archie asked, waggling his eyebrows at Cadence. She probably was. Adorable thing like her would get picked up and danced with a lot, he imagined. It was funny how Archie almost thought of her as like, a sister or a cousin or something. She was just so platonic to him, but in a good way. Maybe that was the benefit of having female friends. Huh. What a concept.

Kyuubi sat in his final class before lunch and be leaving for about one period. It was beginning to annoy him having to miss out on one whole class just to sit and do nothing in his dimension. For a second he hadn't even noticed that Mitsukai was in this class as well. When he finally snapped out of his trance he looked around slowly for her and saw her sitting in at her desk. He was about to say hi, but then he noticed Thorne sitting in a seat next to her. He didn't feel like saying anything now. He figured if he talked to Mitsukai, Thorne would probably say something to him. He sighed. He just awaited the assignment for the day while he thought about how he would talk to Mitsukai when he got the chance.

He thought about asking her to the dance. They dated once before, and Kyuubi wanted them to do so again. He hoped he would be able to ask without getting nervous. Mitsukai had just come back and the dance was tomorrow. He thought about it for a minute while idly doing whatever assignment that was given. Then he came to a decision. He would ask Mitsukai to the dance at Lunch.

Emilia Grove's stomach grumbled loudly. She hadn't eaten well since...Since she'd made that book fly to her years ago.

The woman glances at her. "Are you hungry?" She asks in concern.

Emilia Groves simply nods.

I'll show you to the dining room then. After you've eaten please return to this dorm." She smiles.

Emilia Groves nods again. "Yes Miss."

She follows the woman to the dining room and takes a seat. "Thank you Miss."

The woman leaves and Emilia begins eating. She wasn't sure what quality the food was, but to her it was the best thing she'd eaten in a long time. She eat her fill and sat there for a moment, simply enjoying the tastes and the feeling of being full.

Beep... Beep... Beep...

What the hell..?

Lonan opened his eyes to a disaster zone. His sheets were tangled in his arms and legs like a badly planned spider web and his pillows were MIA. Sunlight streamed into his room through his blinds, lighting up the floating dust particles like thousands of little embers. The shadowed posters of his favorite bands hung on the wall like omens, trying to tell him something that he was missing.

Beep... Beep... Beep...

Glancing over, Lonan saw that the noise was coming from his alarm clock. His vision was a little blurry, but he could just make out that it was..

"12:00?!?!?" he exclaimed.

He jumped out of bed--which resulted in his not so ineffective spiderweb to cause his inevitable flailing fall to the floor. After doing the foxtrot with his conniving sheets to get free, he ran to the bathroom to get ready. He couldn't believe that he had managed to sleep in so late--and on the first day too! He flew through his shower and spent about 50 seconds for drying, brushing his teeth, and deodorant before grabbing some clothes from the drawer and running out the door. He was still kicking himself as he was running through the halls.

Why did he have to be so much like his mother sometimes? Things were always like this at home. They would plan something and then the follow-through would be less than satisfactory. Luckily, he would just have enough time to snarf something down before he had to go to attempt to pay attention to the wonderful workings of subatomic particles; something of which he considered himself an expert.

He grabbed a couple bowls of his life force--ramen--before running to the nearest empty table and sitting himself there. Well, at least, he assumed it had been empty; a girl that could only be described as shy and troubled had just finished her food and was looking down at her tray as if the answer to life's questions lay in the crumbs left behind. He leaned over so that she would look up at him.

"Hiya," he offered.

User ImageEmilia glanced at him. She had learnt how to read people, just as she had learnt everything. Studying. Reading. Never from real experience.

She thought back to her home life. The life she'd had until yesterday. Apart from trying to cure her illness she spent all her time studying and working. She'd learnt so much, but she'd never been able to practise any of it. She'd hardly even been outside. She wondered for the first time what a 'normal' life would have been like. What would it be like to go shopping with friends? Or to have friends? Or to watch a movie and eat junk?

She ignored the useless line of thought and responded to Lonan. "Hello. I am Emilia Groves." She said as she thought. His hair is wet, so he must've just gotten out of bed and showered without having time to dry properly. So he must be disorganised. He's grabbed a lot of food...does that even mean anything?

She used the tip of her finger and moved the little crumbs lining her food tray and created a pattern that looked like some sort of pagan charm. She looked at it and destroyed the delicate pattern, shifting the crumbs to the corner instead. The crumbs no longer being interesting she turned her attention back to Lonan.

She really didn't want to talk to anyone here. She'd gotten the impression that this school actually encouraged the unnatural powers. Why anyone would encourage or approve of such a thing escaped Emilia. It was just wrong. Humans don't have natural powers, it was some sort of curse, something to cure.

Cadence looked at Archie, kinda shocked at what he said. However, after a moment of thought, she realized he was right. If Cory wanted to mope, he should be left to do so. If he wanted to talk, he would, no use in pressing the issue. She continued eating the doughnut, almost finished, while he answered her question. She smirked at the response. That would be funny, rigging the turntables and such. Sure, she'd been to the dances before, knew what to expect, but always remained the good girl. She never went to the after parties with the older kids. This year was going to be different. When he asked her if she was going to the dance, she had an answer ready.

"In a way, yes I am. I heard about some of the college students throwing an afterparty, and I'm gonna crash it." She replied proudly. Much fun to be had there after all. It was going to be way more fun than a supervised dance. No one saying 'No, you can't do this, you can't do that...' Definately a change, something to look foward to.

"I was hoping the three of us could go as a group, as friends...." She admitted plainly, for it was true. At the moment, she wasn't interested in dating anyone, or just going with a random person. Going with her two best friends sounded like it would be much fun, especially considering all the mischief they could cause. It would be great. However, with Cory planning to ask L, she wasn't so sure. Oh well.

"I do already have my outfit, though. It's quite amazing if I do say so myself." It wasn't one of those sterotypical frilly dresses either, but she was excited to wear it the next day. They'd just have to wait and see what it was.

One thing about the whole affair did have her worried though. The day before, some other student, male, came up to her and asked her to the dance. She didn't know the guy, and didn't really want to go with him. So, she raised an eyebrow and looked at him funny. 'Ummm, no.' Was her response. She could tell he didn't like that. He spoke quite rudely to her after that, asked her if she was just going to go with her gay friends and he suggested that she was the manliest of the bunch. She knew his anger was talking, but it still irked her. She had immiediately stood up for her friends, saying that they were more talented and smarter than he was, basically she swore at him back. If it hadn't been for a teacher coming between the two, it would have turned into a scrap. As it was, she did hit him. The thing was, she didn't tell either of the boys about this particular incident, figuring it meant nothing at all. Although, the last thing the guy said struck a chord with her. "I wouldn't stray alone if I were you..." A threat, plain as day. .

"So, would you guys want to go to the after party with me?" She asked hopefully. "I understand if you think it's lame or whatever, I just want to go and have some fun..." She added quickly, not wanting to sound like she was worried or anything. She could hide that fact at least. She mentally reassured herself that the guy probably was a coward and wouldn't act on his threat. Yeah, he probably wouldn't.

The cršme de la crop.
If you want me you better do better than that tonight.
Oh, Oh.
If you want me, it takes more than a wink,
And more than a drink and more than you think.
If you want me you're gunna have to break the bank, tonight.
Cuz some don't have the patience, some call me high-maintenance
But you pay the bill, cuz, that's the deal.

Nikky paid attention all through class. Cosmetology was interesting that day, mainly a review of hairstyling, makeup application, and what not, seeing as the dance was the next day. Overall, it was nice. When the bell rang, she headed to Advanced Power Control. She'd finally get to spend some time with Mitsukai since she had come back to the school. Walking through the halls, she heard much chatter about the dance. People talking about what they were wearing, who they were going with, etc. Nikky was going. She just didn't have a date and didn't know if she would. After all, how much fun would it be to go with a mute? Not much, at least that was her opinion on it. That was alright by her, she'd just listen to the music and dance along. It was her senior year after all, wasn't going to let a little head injury ruin her fun.

She had been hoping Joe would ask her, but that seemed like an inprobability. Something she kind of had gotten used to. Maybe even accepted it. Nikky was excited nonetheless. This time tomorrow she'd probably be eating an early lunch and be getting ready soon afterwards. Date or no date. In years before, when she was single, she'd go with a couple of friends and it was still fun, she'd just do the same this year.

Nikky noticed she had gotten to power control a few minutes before the late bell would ring. Not many others were in class, maybe ten at the most. However, Mitsukai was there, she was also sitting next to Thorne. Wait? Thorne? He came back too? Wow, this was going to be interesting. She walked through the classroom, taking her seat in front of Mitsukai. She turned around and tapped her friends desk to get her attention. Mitsukai's head was buried in a make-up work packet, but she doubted her friend was actually reading it. She took a quick glance at Thorne before returning her gaze to Mitsukai, hoping her friend would look up at her. .

Lonan laughed internally at this poor girl. Yet, it was not a cruel laugh, but more of a chuckle at how predictable the new-comers always turned out to be. He decided to play along with her shy facade. Speaking in his best impression of a British accent, he said, "Why hello Ms. Groves, however do you do on this fine morning?"

As an afterthought, he thought it would be pertinent to dry his hair if the judgmental look on Emilia's face was anything to go by. He focused in on the molecules above his head--mostly consisting of N3, O2, and CO2--and started what he liked to call, 'the heat dance'. Soon, the molecules had sped up their vibrations fast enough for the air around his head to temporarily be his own little blow dryer.

Realizing too late that this might make her uncomfortable, Lonan attempted to apologize.

"Sorry, I know sometimes this school can be a little overwhelming even without the spazzes who use their powers just be flashy, I should have warned you. I manipulate atomic structure by the way." he said not in the slightest bit egotistically, "It's complicated, but it's my thing. I've done it for as long as I can remember. As she processed that, he studied her face more closely. That was when he began to notice the scars.. Her arms and neck were covered with them. Her wrists were chewed up like someone had put her in handcuffs one too many times and her eyes were so dim and sad, as if all the love and laughter in her life had been drained long ago. His heart plummeted with empathy; he knew how painful keeping the secrets of your past inside was.. "Do you have a power, or are you just here visiting someone?"

She glared at him, anger flooding through her veins. He could he...how could he do that like it was okay? How could he act like it was normal? It was wrong! It was just so wrong! So disturbing. So...sickening.

She turned away in disgust. She stood, preparing to leave. Being in the same room as a boy who thought his powers were expectable was making her feel physically sick. It was as if his foul mind was contaminating her, turning her to some power hungry freak with evil magic.

She turned to him as if he were a child who had committed a grave sin. "I'm going back to my dorm. I hope in time you'll realise that that 'manipulating atomic structure' is not something to be proud of. It is unnatural and disturbing."

She planned to leave and return to the dorm she'd been assigned. She'd lay there and meditate, begging for all the Gods of the universe to spare her the curse. After a few hours she'd move on to studying. She was falling short on her geography skills. She still hadn't learnt exactly where each city of the world was. She hadn't even learnt all the cities names yet. It was shameful. She was supposed to have learnt it last week.

A though occurred to her. She'd have to find a library or something in order to study. Maybe revision would be better? Then perhaps history or Latin would be better? Maybe German? She'd started forgetting some German and French. When she got to her assigned dorm she would have to revise on her German and French then.

She turned to leave the dining hall and that foolish boy to atoms. May they offer him some condolence when the crimes of using such powers caused the inevitable retribution he would have to face.
