hey everyone.
sorry i have a question, my teacher didn't make it clear for this.
do i use either
estaba hablando
or
esté hablando.
she didn't say if i use the imperfect or the preterite for that.

The preterite conjugation of estar actually goes: estuve, estuviste, estuvo, estuvimos, estuvisteis, estuvieron -- it's irregular.
But to answer your question, if you want to say that somebody "was talking," you would say "estaba hablando." Estar is in the imperfect here because you're describing something in the past that happened for an indeterminate amount of time. If you want to state more conclusively that somebody "talked" you would use the preterite form of hablar -- like, for example, "he talked for three hours" translates as "habló por tres horas."
