The dwarfs spoke together in an undertone for what seemed like a very long time, and the leader kept looking at the child doubtfully. Finally, the translator turned back to the man.
"We're not sure," he said slowly. "She's too complacent ... which means she's got no idea what's going on, which means she's stupid. We have no use for stupidity, we need kids who can learn, and learn quickly."
He frowned. "And she's human. As much as we need help, we do prefer elven children. They last a lot longer ... centuries longer, sometimes."
Still, he looked as though he really did want to make a deal on this. He stepped forward and took the child's jaw roughly in his hand, forcing her to look upwards, towards the light, so that he could get a closer look at her. The toy she was holding was in the way, and he knocked it roughly to the ground.

Gion forced himself not to flinch but also not to look away from the dwarf's mistreatment of Mia. Inside he felt his fury rising once more, but he didn't let himself move. He couldn't afford to have anyone pay any attention to him.
He only hoped for Mia's sake - and Triton's, considering the neko was being forced to watch his sister being abused - that Donovan was almost finished with the barrier.

Triton tried not to wince, though to be honest he didn't know for whom he was wincing. He certainly was tempted to slap the man's hand away from his sister's face, but he knew that handling Mia like that was not the brightest of ideas though he could not imagine what Mia could do in terms of harm.
"She can do basic work," Triton forced himself to say, "And she's got several years of good living behind her, so she's not sickly or anything. She'll last longer than most other human children."

The light reflected off her cold blue eyes, perhaps a bit too much for it made them look nearly like glass one could almost see their reflection in her eyes. However there was life behind them, as her pupils narrowed as more light entered them.
Though for anyone knew, they could also be narrowing because Mia was very, very displeased at the way her Alice was being treated. One could almost hear the wheels in her head turning as she thought about what she would like to do to this man.

As the last parts of the sound elimating seal was put into place Donovan felt little pity for the dwarves that were about to be slaughter. The second seal settled like soft snow to anyone who could feel magic like the way he did.
He glanced at Gion for a moment as he stepped away from the door reaching into his pockets for the weapons sewed into the inner pockets. Donovan gave a short nod, that to a normal person would look like he was nodding off.

Gion unsheathed the sword that contained his friend and jumped forward in one single swift movement, aiming a sharp thrust at the leader, who happened (conveniently) to be the closest to him. He was furious with the lot of them, and at the moment particularly with the dwarf who had manhandled Mia, but he would let Triton and Mia take care of him - it was their place, in this instance.

The dwarfs were taken completely by surprise, and their leader was dead on the floor before any of them could so much as move. With a shout they realized that they had been tricked, and they all reached for their weapons. Those still around the leader's sleeping area had their short swords in hand, but the translator who was near Triton and Mia had his hands foolishly empty.

Mia was still looking up at the translator from where he had been holding her, if he had seen the knife hidden in the folds of her dress he might have stayed so close to her. Realizing that her part in this was over she struck out slicing at the hand that had mishandled her and her plushie so before going for his heart.
"I don't like you," she murmured softly to the man as she struck close.

Triton drew his sword and struck out at the guards nearest Mia, but leaving the translator, or from what he already saw, what was going to be left of the translator to her. She would never forgive him if he killed the man before she did, he was sure.
He also did not know how Mia did in a melee battle like this, she always struck him as the secret assassin sort of person. This right out battle did not seem like her style at all he thought as he disarmed and promptly took the life of one of the guards.
He, just might have trouble sleeping later, but at least he was not going to lose his meal.

Donovan brought his hands out again revealing little throwing knives between four fingers like claws of a tiger. He rushed forward, aiming low as if pouncing upon his prey to tear their throats out. His cold steel glasses glinting in the dim light.
He held no barrels on this one, he didn't have to.

Gion didn't spare a moment but dove straight for the nearest remaining dwarf. He held his sword in one hand and with the other he pushed the dwarf's weapon out of his way, leaving him open for the kill.
Never had he been so ruthless, but never had he been so possessed.

There were only three dwarfs left now, and they banded together, holding their swords in front of them. The sad thing was, they had never really been trained in the sword - the dwarfs were trained to use battle axes, but there was no way for them to have any up here. Of course, they had never foreseen needing them, either.
As it was, they had no thought of offense, only defense, and hoped that if they showed no desire to fight back that they might be spared.

There was in a way no need to kill them (except for the fact that they could tell the others exactly who attacked them), but there was no reason to keep them alive. No, quite unfortunately for them, in Donovan's mind they would have to go.
This was an assassination and there would be very few left to tell what happened here if he could help it. With a flick of his wrist he threw his knives at the remaining dwarves showering them in sharp metal.

Mia, a bit bloody (though the blood was not her own) picked up her poor Alice and dusted her plushie off. Hugging the cat close to her she viewed the remains of her work coldly.
"I hope they go to a bad place," she told Alice seriously, "They got off easy by dying."

Triton finished what he was doing in time to see Donovan throw his knives, something he knew the man did not do unless forced to, or he knew the battle would soon end. it was just as well, there had been a lot of bloodshed tonight.
He would pity whoever had to clean this mess up.
