(Okay Izumi, if you roll a 20 then you get a lucky shot and... let's say it slightly cracks the rock. After that single 20, you're done.
Conversely, if you fail five more times, you can from then on choose to give up anytime and tell Katare you tried... But that means that you're tired as hell, and I might choose to make the final part of your exercise slightly harder.)

(Alright. That sounds good.)
Izumi came closer then usual but stumbled and barely missed the rock. He was getting closer and that inspired him to press on and throw yet another punch at the rock.

Izumi missed the rock again. This was beginning to irritate him especially since he had come so close the last time. His will was not yet broken though and he would continue until he couldn't go on anymore. He aimed another punch at the rock.

Once again Izumi completely missed. If this kept up he might have to give up and tell Katare that he couldn't complete the training. But when he thought about how pathetic "I couldn't punch a rock three times" would sound his resolve returned. He aimed another punch at the rock.

Izumi missed again. This was beginning to drain him more then it should and he was concerned that if he kept this up he might not have the energy to continue training. If he couldn't finish it soon he would have to give up as much as he hated idea of it. He aimed another punch at the rock.

Izumi missed....again. He was exhausted from this. He decided that if this punch did not connect....he would have to give up and tell Katare he had failed. Putting all of his hope into this last punch, Izumi swung at the rock.

Izumi missed the rock for the last time and tripped, falling to his knees. He slowly got to his feet disappointed that he had failed an excercise as simple as punching a rock. He slowly made his way back to Katare and bowed deeply as a sign of apology. "Forgive me Katare-sensei...I could not complete the task you gave me...."

Katare turned around and saw Izumi acting as though failing a training exercise was grounds for punishment... He did fail the exercise, but... "Well, you're tired, right? Then the task no longer matters." Katare backed away from Izumi, until they were about 10 feet apart. "Now... I want you to fight me. I'll even give you the first shot!" Katare entered his fighting stance...
(Okay, you roll to attack me, add in your attack melee, and compare it to my dodge bonus. If you beat it, you get a hit on me. If you don't, or if they are the same, I dodge. For the saske of the exercise, I'm lowering my attack melee and my damage. Go ahead and attack me now.)

Izumi nodded. He was tired so this probably wouldn't be much of a fight but he still had enough energy to try. He ran, although somewhat slowly up to Katare and aimed a punch at his chest.
(My roll 18 +attack melee -1 =17. your Dodge bonus =15. 17>15 so looks like thats a hit.)

(Okay, 18-1=17, 17>15 so you hit. Just for future reference, you should put calculations like this in your damage calc post, which you should do... now. Okay? Just put the calculation in parentheses, next to saying that it's your damage calc post.
Edit: Impressive! It seems that you've beaten me to my own explanation. Now all that's left is your damage calculation...)

(I believe this is how damage calculation works.)
Izumi was surprised to see that his blow actually connected. He thought for sure Katare would dodge it. Having landed a blow Izumi quickly hopped back a bit to get ready for Katare's counter attack which he believed was coming.

(Yes, you're correct. 35-2=33 HP remaining.)
Katare was surprised by Izumi's speed, which he believed to be much more severely reduced by the weight belt. Perhaps this would last longer than he thought... After realizing that Izumi was nearly upon him, Katare attempted to dodge.. to no avail. At least it didn't hurt. "Well, Izumi, I think that you really have some potential!" Katare backed up a bit, acting as though he was trying not to fight... As if! Katare suddenly sprinted directly towards Izumi. As he got close, he aimed a controlled punch into Izumi's belly, hoping to cause a small amount of damage without anything permanent. Of course, Katare was also hoping that Izumi would be able to dodge it, considering how unsurprising and predictable the attack was...
(Okay, my damage is lowered to 1-4, and my attack melee has been lowered to 0. When you make your next post, consider that Katare's pretty much the single fastest person in the village.)

(Okay, 14+0=16, Your Dodge is 8, 14>8, I get damage.)
Katare was somewhat sad to see the blow connect to his stomach. "Oh, come on! I thought you were better at this." Katare dashed backwards until he was about 15 feet away. "Oh well, I guess it's predictable, since you're in the academy and all..." Katare sighed. But I at least hoped you'd be able to help me get better, so I could get closer to beating him...
