And then, with a snickersnack, he was out of the woods. Well not literally, but figuratively; the jabberwock seemed very interested in taking a turn and left him alone.
killsteal caught his breath against one of the undamaged trees, sensitive to his surroundings just in case. The pocket card went off about rewards, which made him snicker--all for a light run, huh?

There were objects, in the dark and confusion of the wood. Nod took the less heavy one. The air was thick with fear and danger, and he could hear the labored breathing, Defile's and his own, and the dark was so, so thick...
Nod heard the snap of the undergrowth, felt the snap of jaws again, and this time, more severely. His middle...
And then another sound, the ticking of a clock. The forest shook behind her and Rhythm kept running for a good while before collapsing. Safe, she was finally safe form the monster that had been chasing her. She could only hope that her brother was as lucky as her. She hoped nothing happened to him. Reaching a fork in the road, Mercurial didn't linger long over her choice. Veering away from the health potion, she picked up the second chance timer and went on running. There had been too many brushes with insta-death lately, even if refreshing her health was tempting.

Zar was used to running away, running and cowering, hiding and making himself small. There was urgency here but it was not for himself, his own well-being was less important than that of the other demon, if anyone would find a way out of here, he had faith it would be Nod.
He had his own second chance timer held firmly in hand as they went, as his hooves scrabbled for traction in the undergrowth, as he used the weight of his horns and the sharp scythehooks of his wings to slash the way clear.
He looked back in time to see the blip around Nod, to find himself rattled by the shift in time, eyes wide and slitted. They had to make it out of this forest.

Another toothy snare, but Defile's grip was strong, and they pushed together through the undergrowth. Weak, but alive, they arrived..where the trees were thinner, where they could again see the strange sky.
Where they were no longer being chased.
Nod collapsed to his knees, catching his breath but with no sudden, overarching need to sleep. He was not drained. He was asleep.
"All in one piece?" he asked, and his tone was just not as slick as usual.

Coming into view, the Jabberwock wreaked havoc on the surrounding landscape. Its powerful jaws snapped at the trees, at hapless players, even once at Mercurial herself. Her pocket card chimed in again: just 3 HP left, now.
Best not to tarry here. Neither the trees nor the players here deserved all this destruction. She wasn't sure things would be any better as long as the monster remained on her trail, though. If she could just find a way out, without doing too much damage to the rest of the environment.

The monster changed its mind. He didn't care what its reasons for doing so were, only that they could stop before a sprint became a marathon and his energy gave out. Out of the oppressive undergrowth the relief was palpable and he took a few moments to remove half of the branches and leaves from said undergrowth from where they had snarled and caught in his hooked horns.
It took him some time to regulate his breathing enough to reply. "Yes. One." He finally relinquished his hold with his tail, rubbing Nod's back fleetingly with it as he withdrew.
Under him his hooves shivered and he sat down for just a moment to take his weight off of them, wracked with the demands of unfamiliar types of exertion.
"You? That was a very nasty bite back there."

[The Chase Pt 1] Whoever said silence was golden obviously had never been to this place. The silence that had befallen the woods was unsettling. Unnerving. Which was a big thing for the girl who was usually, not spooked easily. Though this place had completely thrown that out the window.. Everything here was strange and she still didn't understand it. The shifting behind her had her tensing considerably, and she almost didn't want to turn around and look. Except she knew what it was, and Lady took of instantly. It was scary. So scary.
Usagi trembled as she felt the woods shake, a feeling of fear and dread overcoming her as she saw the smoke and heard the trees cracking.
The voices of the frightened creatures did nothing to soothe the anxiety, and even when it fell deathly quiet, it only made her more nervous, the sound of her breathing seeming to grow louder.
It was then that she felt a presence, looming.

No, no, she couldn't just stand there. She had to run.
And so she did, her pocket guide helpfully informing her that her hitpoints were quite low, and she was in danger. Voices beckoned to her, gentle and soothing ones, and she swallowed nervously.
Should she look?
Though the voices were kind, fear gripped her heart. What if... that thing was right behind her?
